Two horror games that I've played and would recommend which do not have a separate reviewed are Welcome to Hanwell and Darkwood. Both go on sale at regular intervals for anyone interested. Both games are previewed in the above mentioned SwitchUp Best Horror Games video.
The scene showing the boat with wooden waves simulating water reminded me of the day care center in Dead Space 2. The part in the auditorium with the stage setup for a play with moving backgrounds waiting for the exploding babies to attack.
Thank you, for the review, Glen. I swear, every time I’m considering a game or on the fence regarding one, you both help me with my final decision making. Not sure, that this one is my proverbial cup of tea.
I had the first one on my wish list for the longest time and finally grabbed it during a Halloween sale and was so excited to play. Ended up deleting it after maybe playing an hour. Just wasn't my thing. I sort of get the feeling this would be the same.
I played the first one and the tension and atmosphere were too much for me. Especially as I played on Haloween with lights off. I wanted to return but everytime I did it scared the shit out of me. Wont be getting this but curious still. Thanks for the review.
The first game was so amazing. It’s a shame they felt that they needed to appease everyone and then ending up with a game with an identity crisis. I’ll still play it though.
Observer is sci fi horror game by the same developer in a similar play style. I actually enjoyed it more than layers of fear. Very blurry on switch though.
The location and artstyle of this sequel REALLY speak to me. Also - Candyman!!! But I'll say it again - I found the first game so utterly boring at best and laughably forced at worst, I think I'll only give the sequel a try when it's on a murder sale. (Please note that I don't mean to ridicule anyone who found the first game to be scary! What we percieve as scary is completely subjective. I, for one, found the middle part of firewatch almost unbearably scary! 😅)
Horror games aren’t really my jam (they just don’t really keep me engaged), and with some of the potential frustrating elements, I’ll pass. But it seems like fans of the first game might enjoy it and it’s good to hear that it was ported well.
it could just be me but im finding myself attracted more to games with replayablity than short thrillers. 5 hours til completion just doesnt do it for me anymore.
This game looks great and sounds like a scary ass Myst (i.e., right up my alley). I’m watching it on pins and needles hoping that it’s good all the way through haha 🤞🏽
There’s some great horror games out there. I played RE7 in VR and literally had to take breaks and let my heart and nerves calm down. Great review of this, it may whined up on my backlog down the road. Thanks
RE7 in VR was amazing. Never bothered with 2d version at all. Unlike these walking sims which are peppered with jump scares (psychological horror my ass), Re7 even has actual gameplay😯
Damn I still need to get 1st Layers of Fear next time it's on sale. I feel like I may have gotten it free on xbox with gold forever ago. Need to look thru my download list so i can check out this one.
Always the jump scares... Never have understood them and never will, and it's one of the biggest reasons I stay away from 99% of all horror games and movies.
@@tessavergissmeinnicht5142 agree ! Just started playing Deathmark and it seems to be more to my liking (also found it thanks to this channel). I also really liked the Project Zero/Fatal Frame game to Wii U, but Nintendo doesn't seem to be interested in continuing that series despite co-owning the developer...
I played this on ps4, bought it now on switch cuz I wanna support this studio. But ik gonna tell it how it is. A jump scare here and There, great atmosphere. But it is not scary and Def not the same as the first Layers of fears. Now that we talked about the elephant in the room let me tell you why you gonna play this and continue til the end... The story, o 'm g I Just wanted to know more all the time what the Kids been up to.
@@SwitchUpYt Its the story within the story that makes it and the great atmosphere. And... Another great port of a ps4/xbox game that yet prove that the switch sure can handle alot. I find it amazing that indie studio's manage to make great ports while alot of bigger studio's Gives is potato muddy graphics. Just started it on the switch and it sure looks amazing. Here and There I see already that the game need a patch, nothing serious Just a bit more polisch
Lmao I just preordered it 2 hours ago and I didn't know it would be out so soon. I loved the first game and would definately reccomend the second one, even though i never played it
Yeah I wasnt a fan of the no-stakes design of the first game. It was visually appealing and varied.. but not facing any real danger just completely deflated the tension and degraded the atmosphere. Seeing as how the addition of adversity in this title didn’t end up for the better.. perhaps the devs just aren’t that good at combat/ stealth mechanics?
I didn't really like LOF1, I felt there was never any threat and it felt to much like a less scary version of amnesia. But I really enjoyed observer and Blair witch so I pre-ordered this and have got high hopes
@@TheActs2021 yeah mine too, I love Alien and the technology of the game is just awesome. But I lost my save file about half way through, then I couldn't bring myself to play it again, and last year my OG PS4 died. So right now I'm waiting for the 5 and hopefully utilise the faster loading on bunch of unfurnished games.
@@odys3803 I have already played it thru twice + most DLC on the Switch and now just bought it again for the PS5 but it's just the PS4 version. Playing thru it again ! I really wanted to see the differences between the two consoles and since it is on sale... yeah why not 😁

Funnily enough, I'm playing Welcome to Hanwell at the moment. It will hopefully be in the next, 'Battling the Backlog' episode. Glen
Resident Evil 7 in VR made me 💩myself a few times. So looking forward to RE village
@@SwitchUpYt Same, I just entered the School with the Hospital still to go
I always find I'd like to play horror games for the interesting story, but then get too creeped out
Are you me?
Same here!! 😂
That's what my twitch channel is about. Playing games for people who are too scared to to play them themselves
Same
I recommend detention, it has a great story and it isn't that creepy. There's a demo if you are interested.
I’ll be honest I misread the name as lawyers of fear and I was just like lawyers? Damn right they’re afraid lol

Im back for more of your great content man! I always watch your reviews cuz they go so in depth with things. ❤️much love man !
Much appreciated mate! Glen
Thanks Glen, our resident horror expert! Definitely picking this one up tomorrow. Enjoyed the first one
Even with the somewhat clunky controls, I loved the first game so this one will be gracing my Switch soon although I will be waiting for that sale.
Been not a fan of horror games since before but new experiences is always a good thing
Thank you, for the review, Glen. I swear, every time I’m considering a game or on the fence regarding one, you both help me with my final decision making. Not sure, that this one is my proverbial cup of tea.
It's annoying when games deliberately slow down your ability to sprint as if you're running through treacle.
I had the first one on my wish list for the longest time and finally grabbed it during a
Halloween sale and was so excited to play. Ended up deleting it after maybe playing an hour. Just wasn't my thing. I sort of get the feeling this would be the same.
Yeah, you would probably feel the same about this one to be fair. Glen
This game creeped me out on the PC so much I couldn't finish it. I'll try again on the switch!
Reminded me of RE: Revelations
game looks good from a graphical standpoint. Looks like a fun title to play a couple times, great video as always
Cheers mate! Glen
Thanks! I have the first game in my backlog. I’ll try that one out first.
Good review and analysis.

If LoF 2 is anything like the first one, it is absolutely nothing like Myst.
It looks interesting like a 40’s movies with great psychological japanese horror

Don't sleep on Observer. It's from Blooper Team as well and can best be described as Blade Runner meets cyber horror.
Always the jump scares... Never have understood them and never will, and it's one of the biggest reasons I stay away from 99% of all horror games and movies.
It’s the cheap way of doing horror. Wish horror games and films would rely more on creating a thick, creepy atmosphere
