This is by far the most beautiful video games I’ve played ever. I’m actually surprised I could run this game at over 60 fps on my system. This game makes me incredibly hopeful for the Silent Hill 2 Remake
It doesn't actually look scary to me.. Maybe because its psychological horror. Something you have to hide from is scary fun. Is this actually scary? Hooonnnestly?
@@goldenglove8513 Well, that depends. What kinda "scary" are we talking about here? If you ONLY prefer games that have a lot of gore, jumpscares like Dead Space and RE7 (which are undoubtedly great) then this probably won't be your thing. But if you're into deep, character-driven horror games with creepy atmosphere and intriguing puzzles surrounded with a big shroud of mystery then this is for you. It's also somewhat inspired by Kojima's PT, you'll notice that right away when you play it. This game does require some patience and yes, you need to be atleast somewhat of a fan (if not a huge fan) of psychological horror. Because one thing this game absolutely nails is its atmosphere, the aesthetics and sound design. It looks just phenomenal since it was built in Unreal Engine 5. Also, it's an amazing value for money... You're basically getting both the LoF games + every DLC + new story and all of that in a new coat of paint for just $30 bucks.
@@goldenglove8513 No .... the game feels very low budget in execution. Every animation and voice line feels almost comical? Not in a funny way but cringe way. Objects get thrown at your face and weird filters go on your screen. SO MANY DAMN DOORS SHUT QUICKLY LIKE ITS NOT SCARY. Also the music and ambience is very lacking, zero tension and the "enemies" ... are embarassing. Layers of Fear is worse in everyway to a game like phasmophobia besides graphics. That is all this game has going for it. Not even a game, has no difficulty, you walk around and pick stuff up. No puzzles. Its a walking simulator pretending to be a horror video game. If you want to truly be scared in a game like this, go play games like, "What Remains of Edith Finch" or even "Fire Watch" but my favourite is "Everybodies Gone to the Rapture" which is a truly terrifying experience that stuck with me much longer than the 5 minutes it took me to forget Layers of Fear existed when I first played it all those years ago. Please don't play this unless its a free PS Plus/Gamepass/Epic Game store game
I didn’t really find this game all that scary but I did find the way your environment seamlessly changes around you really awesome. You kind of feel like your progressively losing touch of reality just like the protagonists in these stories. Think of this game less like a horror game and more of a trippy/psychiatric descent into madness… it’s great!
I actually felt the audio design of the remaster was a huge step back from the original. Voice lines are missing pauses between them, sound effects abruptly cut out when stepping over an invisible line, and there's now intrusive spoken narration for almost every single item, for which the voice acting is middling to poor. Shockingly, this takes precedence over narrative-crucial dialogue, so if you accidentally pick up a note while listening to an exchange that actually advances the plot, it cancels the plot dialogue in favour of e.g. the housekeeper reading a letter of resignation and you can't hear it again. The UE5 graphics look great, but I noticed numerous instances where the reality-warping transitions that felt seamless in the original now feel clunky, with the player's position slightly changing or the entire room changing its colour gradient. This is the game's signature move so it's surprising more care wasn't taken on this.
I hate to be that guy, but while I'm really hoping that the two senior staff from the old team silent are going to pull in the rains like Nintendo does with other third party developers, hearing about these problems were almost hits and then completely misses is exactly what my fear is for the Silent Hill 2 remake.
just finished this on a game night with friends, played on a 65" Oled TV, the game was ridiculously good to play with friends. A lot of scary moments and crazy jump scares. Its worth the price of admission
They should have called it Layers of Stupidity, Layers of Boredom, or Layers of Mindless Linearity. All you do it walk around and pick of incoherent note fragments that don't make any sense at all, solve shockingly mindless, stupid "puzzles", VERY rarely, and find 1 key at a time which is SO easy, to unlock the next ever changing maze of a "house" and wash, rinse, repeat. It's an awful, boring, non-scary, walking simulator.
i'm not gonna defend the game, as i am yet to play it, but as a counterpoint, i must say: the Silent Hill series is regarded as this golden god of psychological horror, and sure, i love the atmosphere and the writing seems to be good, but to me they're mostly just "find the thing to open the thing so you can get to the thing which opens the thing". that, paired with one of the worst combat systems out there (which i'm sure apologists will insist is the point, as you're just "some guy", not a trained soldier or whatever), makes the whole experience frustrating as fuck. is that supposed to be a horror game, or a bloody easter egg hunt? one thing i want from horror, and one thing only: to be scared. but, like, yeah, not with jump scares. those are startling, not scary.
Really shouldn’t have reviewers who don’t like psychological horror games to review them… Completely biased and negative opinion on the remake all because he doesn’t like walking simulators…
I dont actually think this looks scary.. I feel like something you need to hide from and run from is way more scary to me. Is this really a scary game? Or no.. Be honest.. Maybe scary looking and sounding.. But just isnt scary
@@rychukot Hmmmmmmm its a bad horror game. Bloober are the worst horror devs working at the moment, they do not understand it and try and mimic good horror games like Silent Hill 2 and ruin it. SH2R will be bad mark my words Or were you the only person who enjoyed the medium lol

For anyone who didn't play the original games, this is the perfect gateway.
Would recommend it to every horror fan :)
The original is also one of the worst horror games ever made
@@bevanmcnicholl2525 That's just objectively wrong. It's one of the most highly rated horror games of recent times.

Layers of Pretension
Layers of Fear always was bad and boring

Whats this game called
No guns so super boring like an interactive movie pick up stuff look at them then move around 😂until the game or movie ends 🎉
Literally nothing in that footage could be viewed as a threat. What a boring game.
What is your favourite horror film? Genuine question. I’m curious.
Ouh yeah, because if there's no monsters / zombies then it's not a horror game.
There is a genre / sub genre called 'psychological horror', you know?
