My point is simple .. set a standard for physical & mental strength .. if just a single woman qualifies in whole country, she should be inducted .. Men won't follow orders even of a male officer if he is weak & coward .. but if there is any courageous woman , they definitely will .. but standards musn't be lowered at any cost ... About women being captured in combat there is definitely chance of greater exploitation .. emotions would run high in that scenario .. compromises could be made .. nation's emotions would jeopardize nation's interest .. so be careful about such decisions.

Some vital points (with critical inputs)
First , I beg to differ with Anubha rathaur . In last 6 decades (since 1971) India only faced one skirmish in Kargil. Merely brushing aside the PoW points doesn't lessen the value of this argument. Mam needs to revisit the world history. Women's are always a prized possession in war.
There is old saying everything is fair in love and war.
So women can be bait to turn the tables in war situation.
    The penal missed this point:
Women are considered as possession (Aabru in general sense) in North India belt, Pakistan, Bangladesh at least. If there modesty is outraged (in simple sense raped or gangraped by other military or within military )
What will be the ramifications .
Will India file case in International court of justice.(in case of opposite defense forces)
Or what will be the national stir if it is within in military. (Like after Nirbhaya incident protest on every roads in Delhi) (mostly Indian are too emotional, and whenever emotions comes in , logic goes out)
India is sexually oppressed country , where boys/ men are conditioned in a particular way, which provides a step higher is social & family ladder. Will they be comfortable when a women at 10000ft high place needs to go loo at nearby or woman officer will be comfortable .
Further, two points I like to made Indian government must review the lesson of USA defence forces on women participation and for people a must watch web series made by Balaji telefilms ( in lead role actress..... Kaur)
Dhruv sir raised some valid points , one the most important is that it is not place to show gender equality or neutrality on political account.
If they are so willing to make India gender equal. Why the (33%) women reservation bill in legislatures, is hanging since 1996. The answer is it doesn't suit their political agenda, further they have to bear the brunt of their decision.
Which in case of this army officers and troops have to bear on individual level and country on an entity level.
I would like to make only point that any changes should be in phased manner and not sudden or abrupt , which destabilize the internal functioning of army or any other defence forces.
It should be done with persuasive techniques which begins from school level and goes until family education system. There is lots of grass root work need to be done so male hegemony doesn't hurt and lots of women also get comfortable to join the commanding position, besides practical , physiological and biological issues.
Our country have much vital matter(modernization, enhancing captial expenditure, integrated commands, etc) in defence forces , which needs to addressed urgently and intervention of court is totally undesirable in this case.

    • @Livingalonediaries23
      @Livingalonediaries23 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I can clearly see what kind of teaching Dhruv must be giving to his daughters.
Women have not come with such demand out of blue.
If you could listen to the story of first women in Indian army major Priya, you will realise back then also there were assumption and bla bla stuff about will women be doing justice to their roles or not but they came and they did it very well. So the debate will always be there. Even if we start area which was earlier or traditionally considered to be belonging to men. Because surely men have ego issues.
There is no denying that exploitation has been taken place, because that how they (men) show that they are naturally more powerful than women, by raping women. Because in work they have been defeated since ages.
Anubha is speaking with her mind and experience, surely Dhruv had got some serious conditioning issue.
No denying that women and children are two most affected and harmed community in a war but are they been. Given the opportunity to hold a weapon in self defence and defence of nation u think no rather they were told and taught to relied on men for their own safety.
But the crux of whole debate is about the fact that where women has been serving since long time atleast legally they should get equal right like men in promotion and performance of their duty.

Being a soldier, I believe that women should be placed in combat role. Points put forward by Gen Druv Katoch are logically correct. Woman whatso ever highly motivated or physically tough cannot sustain in operation.

Aishwarya Bhati says "we need a change in mid-set" in her concluding remarks. To her I would like to ask, can a change in mind-set win wars? Can a change in mindset fight terrorism? Can a change in mindset defend our borders successfully?
There is a value subtraction but there is no value addition by allowing women into front-line combat roles. These feminist activists are trying to impose equality where there is no equality.
If they are really for equality, they should sincerely ask for the same physical & psychological screening process for both men & women for induction into the army. Then I would call that "gender equality", not the imposed one with court judgements & legislations.

  • @jaykikumar3419

Even the constitution mentions that equal protection has to be given in equal conditions in art 14(2), likes should be treated alike, at least giving them chance to proove they a alike is required. But at the same time war situations are never alike, they come with the highest risks and challenges. I myself is not able to figure out what should be done now!

I'm a woman myself but here the two women are only focusing on the gender equality aspect only which obviously needs to be discussed here, no doubt about that but I agree with general Dhrub Katoch that women and men should be given the same training otherwise the quality of service will be compromised which is never expected in such a sensitive role like commanding army..The lawyer was saying about her profession but let us not forget being a lawyer and being an army commander are not the same..They require different kind of training and in law profession there is no requirement for physical fitness at all..Let's be practical and realistic without being unnecessarily passionate about gender equality here..but, having said that if a woman goes through the same training and proves her to be competent enough then I see no reason why they should be denied the role of an army commander..I only disagree with Mr.Dhruv Katoch on one point and that is woman's safety..A woman who is aspiring for that role should know that she can face more safety issues for the sake of her gender and she should be prepared for that and she should not depend on any man to come and save her..Men do not have to be the savior of women officers..Women who are aspiring for that role should be capable of taking care of themselves otherwise they should just leave their job..simple!

    women in combat
    status :
women are allowed in combat only in airforce which currently have 13% of their manpower as women
they are currently allowed in posts that are supporting in nature
    in favour :
    1. it is no longer the age of brute force but human rigths and diplomacy in the armed forces. women can enhance this ability
    2. it can lead to better performance due to mixed gender and demography
    3. restricting potential manpower like women can lead to the missed capabilities of the military
    4. it can lead to prpgressiveness in the army by shunning patriarchy and hyper masculinitu
in many nordic nations owmne are allowed and have been known for the lowest gender gap in the world
    against
    1. the physiognamic limits of women can affect operations that require years of continuous mission (menstrual cycle and reproduction )
    2. it can lead to outrage and grief for individuals and society if there are cases of women prisoners of war in misogynistic societies
    3. army is not a place for eqaulity activism but for pragamtic reasons like security and integrity
women are now allowed in field work as ips officers
women are capable of taking decsions on whether to join the army or not and is aware on her physical needs
there are new avenues in army that require new capabilities like cyber ware, space war, technology etc and this can require new capabilities like women
