  • According to the first SDG Gender Index released this week no country in the world is on the track to achieve Gender Equality by the year 2030. The Sustainable Development Goals which 193 countries signed up in 2015 creates a global roadmap to eradicate poverty and protect the planet.
    The Gender Index developed by Equal Measures 2030 which is a joint effort of regional and global organisations says that 2.8 billion girls and women live in countries that scored very poor or poor in the ranking.
    India is tanked 95th among 129 countries with a score of 56.2 out of 100. Health , hunger and nutrition and energy are some of the parameters on which India has scores well but it's lowest scores are on partnership , industry , infrastructure and innovation .
    So what are the challenges and roadmap in achieving the target of Gender Equality.
    Guest - Yogita Bayana, Social Activist,
    Barkha Trehan, Equal Right Activist,
    Shankar Aggarwal , Former Secretary, Ministry Of Women & Child Development, Frm Secy, WCD Ministry,

    i have some discord with barkha mam , on the issue that India is not male dominating society . As rural India is concerned their is huge gape between the liberty of man and women . I am living in village which is not soo backward as other village of India . what I see their women are exploited physically for field work and house work . They have no free time for entertainment . They are totally depend on male of their houses . They are mentally tortured by male of their house and by society directly and indirectly . Reality is that they no idea about their rights .As rural girls is concerned ,they have no ambition about their personal life and their is lots of restrictions on their thoughts . They have no idea about that life is not confined to marriage .

    I think Barkha ma'am lives in south Mumbai cos most of the time she was talking about the things which has nothing to do with the topic. Saying things like "India is a rape capital is a myth, women are already empowered" was terribly wrong and shows that she has zero knowledge of ground reality. I'm not misandrist but what she was talking totally mislead the discussion and presented a wrong picture of the country. India still has to go a long way to achieve gender equality and women empowerment.

    Rekha Aggarwal mam was right as giving freebies will hurting the dignity of women and disgracing the working women.. But she is thinking by seeing only one side. In my opinion, giving freebies by government is not hurting the wife of daily wages worker, worker whose daily wages is around Rs. 300-500/ day.
    If we go from, Delhi to Ghaziabad, even at some other place via metro, Daily cost of metro of one person both sides Around Rs 100, if a woman of daily wage worker wanted to work in Delhi in shops, or in restaurant , she will think twice wheather to go or not to go.. because Maximum expenditure will spend on traveling..

    Though some points are very relevant and deep....
    1. we are doing great in educating girls but what about work place's environments? it need to be tackled. good work culture and surroundings should be made. points by yogita bayana ma'm.
    2. shankar aggarwal threw lights on govt initiatives beti bachao beti padhao in particular, cases of infanticide, nutrition, education etc having concern about male dominance in the society.
    safety of women is real concern. It encourages women to take parts in industrial activities, political and other male dominance areas exists which are the parameters where India did bad in the report. Apart from this social attitudes need to be changed towards women . As Rekha ma'm said. She pointed the issue out from the free rides for women in delhi. It is bad for women's attitude as well to themselves.

    Barkha mam gave different perspective but i think thats not the real issue.. No doubt that boys do suffer a lot but women suffer more than them in real life.. It may be at working place, at homes, at streets or wherever they go.. So earlier for many years men were given preference for anything but now its time to empower women so that they come at equal level to men and then we'll definitely have a healthy debate about gender neutral law

    • @garimamahajan3045
      @garimamahajan3045 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SHUBHAM HANDEonly women empowerment will lead to gender equality. Rest the panelist barkha mam said is all ok..she gave different perspective i mentioned in the beginning sir.. So if free rides are given to women why not men.. If scholarship for girls are 3000 then why 2500 for boys.. That's so true.. Laws should be there for both of them and should be similar.. But what i meant is that first let the women come in front.. Let them get empowered.. After all its male dominated society

    • @garimamahajan3045
      @garimamahajan3045 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SHUBHAM HANDE SIR, i don't want to argue or debate with u.. Unless u ensure me that its a healthy discussion.. And also i don't see gender equality and women empowerment as two different topics.. I agree gender equality is issue all over the world but what different about india is many girls are uneducated. Forget Quality Education they are not even getting education.. They must not even be knowing that there's a issue like gender equality.. On the other hand, people send their boys to study, higher education.. And the thinking can be changed through education or rather quality education
      About rape capital.. I have no knowledge.. But suggestions from u are welcomed.. And thank you for replying to my comment
      😊😊

    • @garimamahajan3045
      @garimamahajan3045 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SHUBHAM HANDE same is my family.. They also never discriminate between me, my brother and my sister.. But its not about u and me.. There are lakhs of villages and lakhs of girls there.. We talk about equality when there is discrimination right? In rural areas even now there is female infoeticide, girls are not sent to schools whereas boys are, no attention is given on their nutrition and health whereas boys are given attention.. And to the surprise, these are women and old ladies in villages who behave like this.. Why?? Because They are uneducated.. They are not even allowed to do what they want.. So your question is on what grounds women are asking for equality.. I just want to say that when all the women will have the power to make their own decisions.. Take their stand.. Their is no male dominance.. When men can take all decision themselves then why not women.. Let the women or girl be like me or ur sister that is independent.. Am not independent yet 😂 btw

    The SDG Gender Index is itself discriminatory. It only talks about women and that with respect to a specific "western" culture.
    SDG Gender Index with my comments:-
    When I look at the parameters and do the analysis, it's shocking that the parameters itself are very very gender biased. Some of the the parameters do not even consider "men" as a gender. 😢😢
    5.1 End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere.
    What about men and boys? Don't they also have a gender? Or are they not human?
    5.2 Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation.
    Again what about men and boys? Meaning of Gender equality itself has changed.
    5.3 Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation.
    Again all parameters for female only. What about male versus female percentage of child labour, Child bullying. % Unnatural deaths , % suicides, % of workforce in dangerous jobs, %deaths dur to cancer, life expectancy???? The list is long.
    5.4 Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work through the provisions of public services, infrastructure and social protection policies and the promotion of shared responsibility within the household and the family as nationally appropriate.
    All things totally focused on women. What about unpaid care men do like assisting in shopping, driving car and beating traffic. Financial and social planning. Endangering themselves in the all the risky work. What about shared responsibility outside households? Remember, a patriarchal society puts all these responsibility on men.
    5.5 Ensure women's full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life.
    Who is stopping them. In When a woman raises the issue of a farmers, it becomes a news. All know about a woman's mindset. Less said better.
    I am leaving 5.6 and 5.a, 5.b 5.c. They are also on similar lines.

    Equality....empowerment...
    How about unsaid but widely prevalent practice of dowry in whatever garb it be! Both men and women are equally responsible for this practice. What aghast me is most of youth still go for this practice. “ Hume kuch nahi chahiye bas baratiyo ka swagat shasndaar hona chahiye”???? Where is men empowerment when it comes to Dowry?
    Equality for sharing house chores...share in raising kids, take care of one’s own old parents. Why only women when both men and women are working?
    Education - hygiene facilities, transport, safety!
    Work - how women can work when so many jobs requires flexible work hours like doctors/nurse, airline industry, Call centers, etc...when still women traveling alone is unsafe! There are law but enforcement is a?
    Reliable and good Child care system in a given radius.
    Fraternal leave...no one spoke about it???

( I agree there must be laws for men and surveys should be there which are men centric ) but this world is Male dominated as they have political & economic power and her mind is too male dominated
    Now we are moving towards equality but not equal because globally women don't see equal being

    Feeling glad that the discussion was based on the true meaning of 'gender' but in India, the issue of gender equality is more tilted toward women because of large cases of female infanticide. Govt. is trying to subsidise girl education, health,& taking steps toward her safety more because these are the reasons behind the death of many newborns. There is no doubt that the right to equality is fundamental for a decent life but to have equality we have to save lives.

    Why these women are talking about equality in parliament and politics representation only. Why dont they want equal representation in all the laborious jobs also,where men dominate.
    If women want to represent in positions of power, they also have to represent in low quality jobs equally.

      1)if she comes from privileged family she must have resources to learn about the structure of indian society....which is inherently patriarchal.
      2)from vedic period to contemporary society,female of lower class enjoyed more autonomy than higher class counterparts.so it should be the women from privileged class to be more vocal about discrimination being faced by them...

    When guests come over the house, your daughter needs to serve snacks and meal, does you son do that too? Have you ever visited rural India where females are forced to drop from school and work at home and farm, so that their brothers can study at school? Do males also carry child to their workplace in informal sector? Do 8 months old girl also need to know what she must wear coz the newspaper is filled up of news about them getting raped and shockingly the no. of such cases is increasing
