We went from a ID3 Family to an ID5 which is a belting but big and comfortable car, however we miss the ID 3 to this day. Nippy , great round town, great on motorway miles. The 77 battery 3 , we could go back to , especially with the brand new motor! Good and honest review Richard.
We've had a 58KWh ID.3 since Feb 2023 and we love it. The software isn't amazing but it's functional, and coming from a 2011 Skoda Yeti with a radio for an infotainment screen, it's a spaceship. I love the routing via chargers - I feel this isn't given enough credit in reviews.
The updated ID.3 with the big battery is now also a 5 seater. Probably the only car I would replace our standard ID.3 with. There are low level air vents for the rear seats under the front seats. Does keep air flowing.
Works perfectly fine, I have the same in my VW Polo and the W169 Mercedes from my mother always had that. Even on long roadtrips (I did that multiple times with the W169 A-class) its fine, since you get airflow from the front (a bit) and extra from the bottom, so the rear is usually colder than the front. In the front u usually have more sun hitting your body, so it will get warmer after all!
And indeed, I was thinking about getting a 2019 Model 3 Long Range, but I currently have a VW Polo, prices of used ID.3 in Germany and Netherlands are good for ID.3, so I think I would get an ID.3 Pro S! Since the big battery makes it very suitable for long trips. Tesla Model 3 is faster in charging but the differences are small on long trips. I preferably don't drive more than 800km a day (even with a fossil powered car). On a trip of 800km it's maybe 20 minutes difference. That's insignificant, having one or more extra stops to go to the restroom would eat up as much time!
I Have the 58kw Cupra Born v2 with Pan roof and heat pump done 35000 miles since new July 2022, been great! The haptic buttons thought this could be a problem it hasn't! Everyone thinks its great looking!
@@ObiePaddlesBecause it requires double the wiper motors, or a really complex transfer system! Penny pinching by the finance department! My Ford SMax has this setup and I like it. Pity the windscreen in mine has a dip in the middle which sometimes doesn't get wiped! Ford say that is normal.......
Love my ID3 Max ! it’s amazing how many features it as that others don’t , always get compliments on its looks, I have 20 inch Sanya wheels which sets it off
It looks great! Thank you as it’s now on my shopping list for my CFO’s next car as she finds her Model Y a little bit too big and as our children have all grown up and moved out she doesn’t need anything to carry anything apart from shopping.
The reviews didn't really sell me the ID.3 but as soon as we tried one we were totally hooked. There is a classy simplicity to the car with brilliant rear seat space for tall adults and enough space in the boot for daily use. We bought a used 1st Edition in March 2023 and I would only swap it for another ID.3.
We have an ID3 and an Ioniq 5 and while the I5 is a great tourer I actually prefer driving the ID3 about town and on back country roads. The matrix lights and wireless AA are probably the best features.
As a 58kWh ID3 owner who has a relative with a Tesla M3 LR, I think you're being a little generous to the ID3. It's absolutely a fine car, it handles quite well, it stops and goes quite well. But I cannot trust the ADAS really to do its job [and yes, my software is upto date], and proper one pedal driving doesn't exist in it. And then the Infotainment software is just nowhere near the Tesla for ease of usability and utility. Voice Commands are still a joke. And the auto-wipers have their own little VW issues. So, as I said, it's a fne car but actually it just doesn't feel that special, apart from being a BEV and is superior to an ICE car, whereas a Tesla always does. I guess it's that quintessential thing - Character. The ID3 lacks some, while the Tesla has bags of it. Put it this way. Occasionally we swap cars on runs. The relative always wants his Tesla back, whereas I'm reluctant to give it back. Sums our experiences up.
I had not considered the 1-pedal driving when I bought my Tesla Model 3 LR, but now consider it one of the best features of the car, I now would not buy anything without it.
@TTTT-oc4eb I see nothing lol in that. Perhaps the nature of the complaints would reveal more. For example, Tesla have a history of recalls of thousands of vehicles, and yet these never see a service centre because they are almost immediately solved by a software update. So, if you're going to try to pull the wool over someone's eyes I suggest you be specific with your lol.
As an ev tesla owner now owning much the same car as this with a Škoda badge (and 5 seats) I can tell you the new cars now update OTA, it's only the older ones that don't (2021 and 2022 models), they get minor updates ota but for major changes to the OS it's been a dealership trip.
Pretty sure it's temporary for VW, there are lots of people who had online update in ID3/4/5 cars. Also it seems very trivial issue - much more important is that VW dealerships are just generally better than Tesla support - especially now since Tesla is firing lots of people, and they will still have to service those million cars that are on the road
Had an ID3 58kWh Pro Performance for 2 years. We love it. It’s a good size, inside and out. It’s great to see a good review of it, rather than jurno’s going on about software - it’s fine! We’d be happy to have another when the lease expires, subject to costs and competition
We’ve had ours for the same length of time. My wife was sceptical about going full EV. But she loves it. We drove to Scotland from Bristol and had no problems . A relaxing drive there and back.
I have an ID.3 58kwh for about a year now. I instantly liked it since the first time I test drove it and it still gives me lot of happy driving miles. I'm on the lookout for another EV with more range and the ID.3 will stay because my wife loves to drive it too. Out of curiosity I went to drive the new Tesla 3, the RWD and the dual motor back to back. I found the the RWD to be the better drive, although the power of the AWD was very enjoyable but eventually not really needed. Long story short, I was very happy to be back in my ID.3...it's so much easier to drive, more nimble, more practical, more balanced, less jerky in traffic, better cruise control and thank goodness no one pedal drive. Don't get me wrong, I rarely need to use the brake pedal in the ID.3, but it's just way easier to regulate your speed or hypermile in the VW than the Tesla. The VW ID cars are just much better thought through, practical and enjoyable. I actually like the haptic buttons on the steering wheel, use them as sliders instead of buttons and you'll see that they work super easy and silently. The tesla 3 is good value car for it's money, well equiped I'll give it that, but it left me more frustrated and annoyed in the many little details where it's faulty. The removal of the stalks - completely unnecessary. Who on earth was complaining about stalks? You want to change something quickly? Go in one of the 20 submenu's on the center screen and start swiping like an idiot. You like the stereo loud, good, we'll also unwantedly increased the blinker sound for you to scare the hell out of you. You safely want to select another song on spotify while waiting for a left turn on a traffic light, let me put the camera view in front of it. You managed to swipe it to the side, no worries next time we'll put it right back in front of everything...I like clean, scandivian design, but this "less is more" is mostly more frustrating". Brought the tesla back to the dealer an hour earlier than booked, thanked the man for reassuring myself that I'm making the right choice to buy an VW ID.7 tourer instead. Great car, no frustrations.
Great tip re use of the haptic buttons. Another good one I have seen online is to stick luminous tape on the central heater controls to see them in the dark. This gets slated in many videos, but I’ve never had illuminated dial controls in any car I’ve owned.
Have had mine for almost two years, done about 30K miles with it so far...very good all rounder and soooo practical in town...Interior could be a bit more exciting but overall very happy with it
Had the happiest 70,000mi of driving in my ID.3 Tour Pro S It's funny to watch this, I'm thinking to myself 💭💭 Where has he been ? I've enjoyed everything mentioned for 3 years now.
I went to test drive the ID.3 when it first came out and had all the safety systems crash out along with the bluetooth not working well, left a really bad taste in my mouth and just don't think they're that great. I love how easy a tesla is to live with, all the app intergration is so nice
Love the matrix headlights! It’s scary to think how we once regarded the halogen globes. As just last week I was in a friends car that isn’t that old yet the yellow glow made me ask if he only had the bottom fog lamps on. It was that bad, even in high beam. Such a “brilliant” useful safety feature.
Great review, thanks! It’s refreshing to see on TH-cam a review based on longer term use. Just a small note: if you use the native nav app of the phone mirroring (e.g Apple Maps on CarPlay) then you do get nav instructions on the heads up display, but just on the bottom part and not on the AR part.
Great review, we came down and enquired about the 9000 mile Silver Id3 Pro S tour, but unfortunately our Egolf wasn’t worth as much as we had hoped to work a deal, we after watching this review, put a Deposit down on a 23 plate Tour Pro S from our local VW dealership and love it. Just wanted to say thank you to Jo for his help when we came and visited and your TH-cam reviews that I now always watch. Keep up the great work and hope one day we can try and do business as love your work and such a great company to deal with. Steve and Shelley from Southampton
We got the basic model Pro Performance 58kWh Life, and we love it; the software is updated and seems to fix all the issues, The great drive is nicely balanced, and it can be kept for another few years, does feel like the older golf, feels a bit cheap inside. Safety features are brilliant.
Yes, but it has to depreciate from a Tesla bothering £44k down to maybe £24k so I'll have to wait for 3 or 4 months after launch before making a purchase.
Hi, i drive an id3 first edition since 3,5 years now. And i totallly agree it is a nice practical car. It has had some bad review from the press. But in every day use it is pretty good.
We’ve a Tesla Model Y LR and one of these id3 Tour Pro S. Tbh the VW is all you need for an everyday car. Easy to drive, plenty of go, and a good spec. It’s about half the price of the Tesla on lease costs, and therefore really good value. Suspension is much more forgiving than the Tesla too.
The ID3 is a really good effort and I am sure the revised model is even better. Even accepting the questionable software and lack of over the air updates. It’s only issue is what BYD have - the price. It’s way too expensive. I hope they have finally introduced backlit buttons.
I like the look of the ID.3 but need to navigate the brochures to figure out which trim has the 360 camera. I wish cars had fewer trims and option packages.
I drive a 2024 ID.4 (the newest facelift version) and really love it. Not everything's perfect of course but the efficiency of the new motor is actually not that bad. Also the charging-curve was improved, so now it charges faster from 10%-80% even though the DC-peak is the same. The most notable improvement to the older ID.4 really is the software: Manual Battery preconditioning is so practical and the software just looks and feels better in general. I hate the all-in-one blinker-washer-stalk though... and the light control panel in all newer VW-Cars, I always turn the windshield heater on, on accident.
Good that its improved from the initial versions. Seems likea decent car soem nice features. Dissappointing it gets 300 miles *maybe* from 77kWh when a Niro, Soul or Kona from 5 years ago with 64kWh can certainly get 280 and I've had closer to 300.
I love it. I’m a real VW fan having owned 7 including 4 golfs and an air cooled Type 3 fastback. Having said that they hurt their reputation with the ID3 execution initially and I can’t see myself buying one for a few years…we have a model Y and a dog and the Y is a brilliant size and dog mode is unbeatable. They missed a trick with the naming convention. Everyone now has numbers. Wish they had just kept the Golf name for this car. When you compare the Golf’s I owned ( Marks 1,3 4, 7) they had a resemblance but are massively different, and with a little effort they could have kept more of a resemblance. One thing that always puts me off VW Group these days is the massive number of options and packs. The Tesla Model Y options are simple (none). But there are so many spec levels and then packs that it’s difficult to work out what you need and 2nd hand buying and selling is very difficult. Efficiency is useless. Our model does more then 4 miles / kWh over its whole life (12,000 miles). Overall though VW Group had taken BEV seriously thanks to Herbert Diess and it shows. Now if Diess were to become the Tesla COO how good would that be!
I had a first edition , great to drive ,loved it but software was rubbish, now have an Ioniq5 great car but not without it's faults , door handles no over the air car software updates etc.
I’ve had a few different EV’s and I’ve come back to the ID3 Tour 2023. I’ve done about 7000 miles in it and overall I think it’s great. We also have an ID4 first edition at home and together they make a brilliant combination. Most journeys we’ll take the ID.3 as it’s more nimble and easier to park. I can really recommend. I think the 2023 pre facelift cars with updated trim and the better memory seats were the sweet spot.
By coincidence, yesterday I had a ride in a Model 3 being used by a ride-share service. I do not know what specific version of the Model 3 it might have been. ( It looked new but maybe the driver just keeps it clean.) Anyway, I was distinctly uncomfortable in the rear seat. The seat is low, so my knees stuck up in the air. There was not enough room under the front seat for me to get my toes under it, which added to the awkward seating position. The ride was distinctly harsh as well. I had ridden in Model 3s two or three times when they first came out several years ago, but this was my first ride in one for several years. Riding as a rear seat passenger was a vivid reminder of how far Tesla has to go to achieve good rear seat passenger comfort. Now full disclosure, I do not know what the tires or wheel size were, so maybe it was a performance model or had larger wheels, do not know. And I am not anti-Tesla -- I owned a Model S for 8 years and enjoyed it. On the positive side, I did like the view of the center screen -- my current EV has much smaller screens, and I miss tesla's big screen, especially for using maps.
We moved from a 58 to a 77 ID3. We test drove numerous cars before deciding, and I reckon the ID3 is the best overall package. It even has indicator stalks would you believe! All cars have their pos and negs. Tesla’s big pos are the superchargers, VW’s has the “autopilot”. Driven quite long distances in the ID3s and not had any problems with finding chargers.
Good honest review, the id3 seems to get bad press on most reviews and I don’t see why. I’ve had one for 20 months and really like it can honestly say one of my favourite cars I ever owned it just does everything I ask of it.
I think the bad reviews were the result of launching a car that wasn't fully developed. VW seem to have fixed many of the issues now, but the car is wrongly still tainted by the launch mess ups.
I have the Cupra Born, which is essentially the same car. One thing I can say is that you do get used to the haptic controls. I rarely, if ever, operate them accidentally these days.
We've had a 58kwh ID3 Pro Performance since Jan 22 and love it. I find it more fun to drive than my Octavia vRS, its just so agile. We've just bought an ID4 to replace the Octavia, it gives us lots more luggage space than the ID3 and has some really useful features for long journeys (it's the top spec) - but it also makes me realise just how great the ID3 is. Every time I get back in the ID3 it puts a smile on my face. The infotainment now works well. I have never had a problem with the haptics. I only wish it could take a roof load and/or retrofitting a tow bar was cheaper.
I'm interested to see so many happy owners here. I hired one for a month, about three years ago. It was one of many EVs I tried at the time when trying to choose one. I thought a month should be long enough to learn to deal with any idiosyncrasies. I liked the size, ride and appearance. The interior was OK, but rather sparse and cheap for an expensive car (this was after the early 2021 10% price cut). I had no problems with software reliability, but I found the user interface design awful. We rarely had a journey without either my wife or me screaming abuse at the system - usually the touch screen. For example, the only way to zoom the touch screen satnav display is to use a two finger pinch action. Remember you are doing this on a probably bumpy road whilst trying not to take your eyes off the road. Almost every time the system would interpret it as a tap and set a new destination. So now you no longer have any guidance to your destination - good luck guessing which motorway exit to take, or where to go in the city centre. The haptic buttons on the steering wheel were equally dire. I recall that activating and setting the speed limiter required me to look down from the road about six times. Such a shame, a really nice car ruined (for me) by awful software design and related interface hardware choices.
I really enjoy our ID.3 Max Pro Performance. We have one of the last of the pre-facelift cars and it’s a pretty well sorted car that’s incredibly comfortable. The DCC (standard on the Max & Tour cars) works really well too, so you can set the suspension just how you like it.
And harder to see in the twilight hours when they are still driving around with their DRL's on, but with no rear tail lights! Auto headlights are great, but as to when they are triggered, I find Japanese cars headlights come on far too late as do some French cars!
@@chrishar110 as I did with my Skoda's! It's an actual option on some brands now to have rear DRLs as a tick option in the car settings via infotainment system! Good I say, as was Skoda giving 3 options for auto headlights, early, norm and late! Mine were set to turn on early! Better be seen than not I say
I watched last night and as I drove home tonight with the air-con on I thought about your comment about your knee being in the way of the vent. I'm one inch shorter than you and my knee is nowhere near the central vent. My knee is below the steering wheel, which is also at the lowest point. Try sitting back a few inches, that's all I can think of to move your offending knee lol. Interesting video tho 👍
The new update is even better, with 5 seat configuration, updated infotainment (ID7 style), more efficient drivetrain and if I remember correctly, slightly bigger battery
Richard can you give an objective comparison of the ride quantity of the ID.3 compared to a model y rwd please. I'm thinking of making the change from ID.3 to a Y but worried about the ride . Lots of negatives comments out there. Thanks
Yup, just about sums up the ID range: despite being poo pooed by many of the mainstream auto journalists (who it seems can't get over the infotainment controls), the ID models do a lot of things really quite well - particularly if you have one of the better specced options. Maybe software one exception, but even that is being sorted out (at last) with v4.0 on the new models, and those of us stuck on 3.2 then there is always android auto...
I had an id3 on pre order but delays meant I got a model 3 SR+. Had a terrible ownership experience with tesla and ended up in the Enyaq. Much the same car as this but with the 58 kWh battery which gives 200 miles in winter, 240 in summer. It has all the good points here but has vents in the back and triple zone climate control, no haptic buttons, excellent HUD and much better materials in the interior. Just debating what to replace it with at the 4 year point. VAG autopilot system is so much better than my model 3 was.
I like the vehicle size format, function of these smaller cars. This seems pretty well done other than a few things that seem annoying. You didn't mention charging speeds and time to charge, or if it has battery preconditioning or if you have control over the preconditioning if it has it. Too bad VW can't seem to figure out how to get these cars to North America for some reason. Thanks for the other reviews. I am all Tesla'd out...
VW id3 is basically like the VW Cupra Born. The Official website has a technical drop down page which sets out charging performance. For DC it should charge 5-80% in 35 minutes. Actually it took 50-55mins. Worse still it never even peaked at the rate it would need to average to achieve 35mins. The specification is not caveated. A courtesy Cupra did the same. I have detailed charge info but neither VW or retailer Listers have challenged the accuracy of the information. VW Cupra website doesn’t say that the battery safe mode will impact on AC charging performance. Rather it advertises cheap overnight charging and recommends Ohme and Octopus: I purchased both. If the AC charging depends on the battery safe mode then it should state that. It doesn’t. Indeed there is no explanation of battery safe mode and why/when and on what criteria it will be activated. So 75/80% of time it half charged overnight which means I could not get to work and back! The battery safe mode is on a VW id3 website!!!
Biggest problem with the ID3 is it can't officially carry roof bars and it has zero towing capability, so essentially it's an electric shopping trolley so if a person needs to carry a family and luggage, it has no ability to carry additional luggage. Hopefully, when the ID3 replacement comes out, whenever, these omissions will be instated. VW were a little too cautious when they brought out this car. Obviously their first purpose designed EV and they were worried about range and loss of range especially when towing or with a roofbox on top.
Nice car from the exterior but they really cut corners in the interior. Looks very cheap. HUD is nice though why all cars don’t have this these days is a mystery. Although windscreen angle probably affects this.
Another great review Richard. I've had an ID3 for over 3 years and agree with your finding. We test drove a Modrl Y and my wife hated the ride how do you think it compares to the ID.3? We have the 19in wheels as yours and i don't particularly like the ride as you said can be choppy. The things I would miss would be the mattix lights, the acc which seems better than teslas and the fantastic turning circle.
I like the way the VW slows for changes of speed limit and then resumes when exiting a speed limit without input from the driver. It also slows for bends and roundabouts, etc. From what I understand Teslas don't do that. I'm sure that is the only feature of the software that is better.
Really like the ID 'family' . Big fan of the ID4 particularly. Only thing Volkswagen really dropped the ball on was the software. I understand it's been improved now though? *Edit I should've watched the whole video before commenting 🤣
The id3 would have been a much more successful car had it been sorted from day one; we had an early one with lots of glitches but overall much preferred it to the MG4 we replaced it with. I still think they look good in the classic VW understated way - looking at you, BMW…
Interesting comparison with the Tesla Model 3. Well done Richard.... it's close between them....some features are better on either one. On balance I think I'd prefer the Tesla....just about.
The problem I have with anything non-Tesla is they don’t give you anything for free lane departure get your cheque-book out heated seats get your cheque-book out granny cable get your cheque-book out heat pump get your cheque-book out. Etc etc
@@ouethojlkjnand Tesla don't give you... Parking Sensor Radar Headup Capacitive Steering Wheel A Real Rain Sensor, which works Blinker Stalks🤣 And a loooot of other Features, which you do not even get when you like to spent the money...no options means no options. If any VW would be as naked like Tesla, the customers would kill the dealer.
@@josefv-y8m They do give you parking sensors and a reversing camera and side cameras and front cameras. What more do you want for free? A heated steering wheel you can actually turn off would be nice. maybe VW will fix that with one of those OTA updates. Wait, they don't do that either. At least the heated steering wheel is an option. Headup is not as standard on a VW, it only comes with higher level trim. VW should at least sell the car with a heat pump, granny cable and CCS cable as standard. Like Tesla does. VW are too expensive and living on past glories.
I love the exterior of the ID.3, and it has some great features… but the interior (mainly the infotainment system, window switches and steering wheel) completely puts me off.
It's the best EV I have had, and I have had Kia, Kona, model 3 , the best bang for your buck EV,, the matrix headlights are the unbelievable especially country roads , town car great turn circle, great for long journey too queit cabin, its the smallest biggest car I ve seen, rear passengers have space like a passat, it has all the features you need heated seats , steering wheel, adaptive cruise control best in the business I driven, ID light is under rated very useful , great car , infotainment is more than ok near great since over the air updates etc
Put near 2k miles on a cupra born in the past 6 weeks, i cant understand the testers complaining about the haptic buttons on the wheel, i have clipped them.....2 perhaps 3 times, thats it. They also respond to pushing aswell as swipe, again testera never mention this.
They always have, but you need to lift your foot off when the car tells you to otherwise you won't slow down in time. The car works it out for you when on adaptive regen.
Considering Tesla charge thousands of pounds for autopilot yet current models don’t automatically slow down from 70 to 50mph zone changes is a bit worrying 🤔
It's a really, really, really awful looking car. Like they deliberately thought "oh it's electric, we have to make it look futuristic". I wince every time I see one drive past.
@@stephenballantyneIt’s funny because i think exactly the other way around, especially in a white color with big rims it does look very epic for me. The back makes it imo
So will the new id3. As a friendly advice, try to test drive both in the dark, see how much you like the matrix lights. I was really close to get the born until I tried the id3 and for me it was a big enough of an advantage to go for the id3, those headlights are that good. It’s really a shame that you can’t get them on the born.
Just about all cars have floor level HEATING ducts for the rear because warm air rises. Cold air falls, so having cold air delivered to your feet doesn't really do enough to keep you cool on a hot day.
Nice looking car except for the small windows in the front. It makes no sense that VW is still using the old inefficient engine in the id3. Also their cars are in general to inefficient and heavy compared with Tesla models. I would probably chose a Skoda Enyaq over a Model Y provided that it has the 5 years extended warranty and that they could actually deliver the car within a reasonable time. Btw. you can't get the id3 with a trailer hitch with puts of many buyers in Denmark
sorry, I meant too, choose, and off😃, but I am still surprised about the tow bar hitch problem. (p.s. I cannot speak your language at all! although I do have some good close friends from Denmark here in downunder land) In fact my grandparents told my dad that they were proud of being from Viking stock.
Here's the problem this car costs £38k right now but a t-cross starts @ £22k with a r line one @ £28k so ether £16k or £10k cheaper. Let's say you keep it 4 years then you have a minimum of £2.5k to spend on petrol and right now @ £1.40 per litre that £2.5k will get you roughly 20k miles so even if the EV was charged for free id still be worse off ?
i realy like the ID 3 and i am not totaly sure Wich car a like most Id 3 or the Tesla model 3 SR i think they are Equal to me Teslas Screen when ou know it it is nice and much better then the ID3 Software that is pretty not good. but drivingwise i actualy prefer the ID3/ Cupra born.

I wish vw would sell the id3 in the Usa at $25,000 us dollars it would sell like hot cakes
11:43 Very nice shot! It shows that the wipers were designed to also clean the front camera together with the rain sensor, which is great engineering!
Wipers are brilliant and why are these not the norm?
@@ObiePaddlesBecause it requires double the wiper motors, or a really complex transfer system! Penny pinching by the finance department!

CFO :))
What else did you actually try?
eNiro, Kona, Leaf, Corsa e and e208. Smallish cars with a hatchback.
Who needs one pedal driving. The ID.3 has adaptive recuperation or if you use the ACC you have more or less 0 pedal driving.
@@justus6564 Please, don't try to defend an inferior car. It's a very good electric car. Just not an outstanding one.
I had not considered the 1-pedal driving when I bought my Tesla Model 3 LR, but now consider it one of the best features of the car, I now would not buy anything without it.
@@ramblerandy2397 LOL, in Norway Tesla have 12% of the new car market, but 50% of all complaints on new cars.
Enjoying these new types of videos. As you spend time with more cars I am sure I will find the comparisons beneficial.
As a Tesla owner, your comment about having to take the car to a dealer for a software update as being prehistoric made me chuckle.
As an ev tesla owner now owning much the same car as this with a Škoda badge (and 5 seats) I can tell you the new cars now update OTA, it's only the older ones that don't (2021 and 2022 models), they get minor updates ota but for major changes to the OS it's been a dealership trip.
My Skoda updates over the air while it's sat on my drive.......it won't update while I'm driving.
I get online updates on my 23 plate id3
keep up to date buddy.
ID.7? I'm jealous;-)
I have a 2018 Passat GTE and absolutely love it, but would love even more to have the "EV version".
Great tip re use of the haptic buttons. Another good one I have seen online is to stick luminous tape on the central heater controls to see them in the dark. This gets slated in many videos, but I’ve never had illuminated dial controls in any car I’ve owned.
Have had mine for almost two years, done about 30K miles with it so far...very good all rounder and soooo practical in town...Interior could be a bit more exciting but overall very happy with it
Had the happiest 70,000mi of driving in my ID.3 Tour Pro S
It's funny to watch this, I'm thinking to myself 💭💭 Where has he been ?
When the new one of these comes out later this year with v4 software 287bhp motor and 5 seats it will be a really good offer.
Yes, but it has to depreciate from a Tesla bothering £44k down to maybe £24k so I'll have to wait for 3 or 4 months after launch before making a purchase.
They need to chop 10,000 off the price
Great honest review Richard, you have mentioned before re matrix head lights, let’s hope other brands catch up.
Not really
I had a first edition , great to drive ,loved it but software was rubbish, now have an Ioniq5 great car but not without it's faults , door handles no over the air car software updates etc.
Brilliant review and great in depth information on all the good and bad points - thank you
I’ve had a few different EV’s and I’ve come back to the ID3 Tour 2023.
( It looked new but maybe the driver just keeps it clean.)
Anyway, I was distinctly uncomfortable in the rear seat.
Are the buttons below the large screen backlit now? I remember that was one of the major gripes.
The ID.3 has a much better charging/departure-planning software than Model 3. It is a game changer in the daily life!
No roof load is a shame
My id4 did the update its self
Now you have in route charging in the mapping which is great
I'm interested to see so many happy owners here.
Personally, I love the turning circle on the ID cars. That's brilliant!
I really enjoy our ID.3 Max Pro Performance. We have one of the last of the pre-facelift cars and it’s a pretty well sorted car that’s incredibly comfortable. The DCC (standard on the Max & Tour cars) works really well too, so you can set the suspension just how you like it.
Why do People pick Cars that are the same Shade (not a Colour) as the Road?
Couldn't agree more. 50 shades of road...
And harder to see in the twilight hours when they are still driving around with their DRL's on, but with no rear tail lights! Auto headlights are great, but as to when they are triggered, I find Japanese cars headlights come on far too late as do some French cars!
@@johnh3095 I programmed my BMW i3 to have the tail lights on when DRL are on.
I spent the first 5mins watching Richard talk to an empty spot in the car park.
I guess the software has been updated because navigation using Apple Carplay now utilizes the augmented stuff in the HUD.
Another great videos & it looks the business!
I would take this ID3 to a TM3 any day of the week.
Will you review the latest Tesla update?
Good video, do you loose storage space somewhere for the extra batteries with the long range version?
Not in the new version late 2024, previous lost a middle seat in the back.
Test drove the Cupra Born and Tesla M3 back to back. The Cupra was nice but the Tesla was just so much more fun
I think they would be far more popular if they looked as classy as a golf. I just think they look cheap, especially the lower spec ones.
Great video and refreshing not to hear that word Tesla too many times…how does the Cupra Born stack up against the ID3?
Nice car from the exterior but they really cut corners in the interior. Looks very cheap. HUD is nice though why all cars don’t have this these days is a mystery. Although windscreen angle probably affects this.
Useful informative review! Thank you!
Tesla has no ACC with Radar...only Vision Only
I like the way the VW slows for changes of speed limit and then resumes when exiting a speed limit without input from the driver.
Thank you for all this information, i got answered all of my questions :)
The id3 would have been a much more successful car had it been sorted from day one; we had an early one with lots of glitches but overall much preferred it to the MG4 we replaced it with. I still think they look good in the classic VW understated way - looking at you, BMW…
I like the rear drive rear motor, great traction and quiet
Interesting comparison with the Tesla Model 3. Well done Richard.... it's close between them....some features are better on either one. On balance I think I'd prefer the Tesla....just about.
14:39 listen to this closely

Blinker Stalks🤣
And a loooot of other Features, which you do not even get when you like to spent the money...no options means no options.
Glad to see the software issues are history but i prefer the look of the Cupra.
We have a new ID.3 Pro S match with interior plus pack on order 👍
I wish we got the ID.3 in the USA
Cheers Richard
Some bloke is nicking the number plate on the car behind! Catch him!!
Put near 2k miles on a cupra born in the past 6 weeks, i cant understand the testers complaining about the haptic buttons on the wheel, i have clipped them.....2 perhaps 3 times, thats it. They also respond to pushing aswell as swipe, again testera never mention this.
Have they implemented one pedal drive? I love the Cupra Born, but the lack of this lets the car down....apart from that, a great improvement VW
They always have, but you need to lift your foot off when the car tells you to otherwise you won't slow down in time. The car works it out for you when on adaptive regen.
I thought I wanted true one-pedal driving but it turns out VW knows better and I love B mode in town. You rarely want to come to a complete stop
Neat review. Thank you.
I wish we were getting this car in the USA
I think you get the larger ID4 in the US.....
Glad VW have sorted their software problems.
Considering Tesla charge thousands of pounds for autopilot yet current models don’t automatically slow down from 70 to 50mph zone changes is a bit worrying 🤔
Tesla autopilot is free and included
ID3 has grown on me, shame that VW seem to be incrementally toning down the exterior design and making it more and more dull looking

So will the new id3. As a friendly advice, try to test drive both in the dark, see how much you like the matrix lights. Rear vents are under the front seats, otherwise accurate review.
Just about all cars have floor level HEATING ducts for the rear because warm air rises.
Cold air falls, so having cold air delivered to your feet doesn't really do enough to keep you cool on a hot day.
@@peterwilliamson1825 Cooling of cars works by air displacement, not convection.
Btw. you can't get the id3 with a trailer hitch with puts of many buyers in Denmark
which and off? but seriously I would have thought that there were many after market approved hitches available in most countries?
sorry, I meant too, choose, and off😃, but I am still surprised about the tow bar hitch problem.
You can get 1st editions right now for £15k, I would rather drive a 4 year old ID3 then a brand new TCross sorry
Really don’t understand why anyone buys the ID range other than the Buzz.
I guess each to their own!
Well I’ve just tried to describe why. It’s like a Golf… does a bit of everything rather well
