I'm glad I found this video. My brothers and I are starting to repair a 501 mower for my 1952 Ford 8N. This helps. Thank you!

Good video i just finished mowing with my 501 ford sickle bar it does a good job the only draw back is high weeds will fall foward then it stops cutting. Speeding up 10- 12 hundred rpm smes to help.

Glad you enjoyed the video. Your right , weeds do tend to fall forward unless you outrun them 😀

We had one of those Ford 501 mowers. The only thing worse that it was the NH 451 we traded it in on. Finally a NH mower conditioner.

If your mowing large fields the 501 wouldn’t be my choice either.
For what I’m using it for , mowing around the creek bank , it works fine

I feel like mowers should have a duel-cutting mechanism with both the sickles and the brush hogs simultaneously operating, turning tall grass into this mushy green fertilizer.

      That’s a good idea.

Very good video. I just bought one couple days ago. Seems to be in good shape. Has all original parts to it. Only thing is, is that it's not moving freely. Any ideas how to unbind it?

Do you know which attaching kit is on your mower? Recently purchased one, that we're trying to mount on a Kubota. The attaching kit it came with is for a Ford. The 3 point arms on your Deere appear the same as our Kubota.

My 501 at one time had 2 smaller arms that were mounted on each side of the mower where the lift arms hook up and they attached to the tractor lift arms but I took them off.
I just use the tractor lift arms , top link and the stabilizer arm that mounts to the left side arm looking from the back of the tractor. The stabilizer arm sets tension on the sickle bar so when you raise the tractor lift the bar sickle raises slightly
      Hope this helps.
I have a couple more videos showing the 501 mower if you want to watch them, might help you understand how I have it hooked up.

I just bought a 501 and the pitman arm is busted with a piece missing in the middle. Can you tell me where you bought yours? Or the length of yours if I have to make one? Thanks.

Tractor Supply TSC has the pitman arms, that’s where I bought the new one. You can either order one online or pick one up if you have a local TSC Store

@@CreekviewAcres Thanks. I just subscribed. I did a search and it looks like TSC are out of these - says not available for pick up, standard shipping or other shipping. I did find some on ebay, and it looks like a couple of other places. And a big thanks for posting this video on how to remove and reinstall one. I really appreciate it.

@@CreekviewAcres Thanks, I'll be watching for it. I just looked at the parts catalog, and it shows two different lengths, about 10 inches differences in the pitman arms. The shorter one goes on 14-92 model while the longer one is on the 14-93. I have a 14-92 and from the part number on the replacement arm that you have indicates that you probably have a 14-92 also. Just a bit of tidbit information for those, like me, don't have a clue on these sickle bar mowers.

The 501 is probably the most popular Ford mower, they were made in 6ft and 7ft versions, the only difference was the bar length, the rest of the mower was the same. Good luck with your repairs.

I was wondering if you know the year of your mower and if the lettering Is original , the 501 and the Ford , I’m buying one and I’m sure it’s going to need some work . Its red and looks to be in good shape but was going to restore it and paint it ford blue to use whit my ford 1900 . I’ve ordered a owners and service manual to study up . Your videos are every helpful and will pay dividends when the time comes .

    • @CreekviewAcres
      @CreekviewAcres  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Don’t know the year on mine. Ford made the 501 for several years , probably from the 50’s to the 70’s.
I painted the ford name and the 501 on mine. It was blue when I bought it but they made orange ones that are the same.
      There good mowers.
