    My Chilean mother-in-law always grew a cedrón bush in her garden - otherwise known as lemon verbena. If you want to look after your tummy, just put four or five fresh leaves with boiled water poured over the top and let it steep. Drink it as fresh tea - beautiful, feel good straight away. You can make it as a cold tea infusion too - it looks beautiful in a big glass jug with ice served in summer. Just grow lemon verbena in your garden and at the end of summer pick all the leaves and dry them in paper bags in a dry place then once dried, store in glass jars to have lemon verbena all winter long. Cut the bush back a bit to keep it in good order. If you don't have a sunny spot for the bush in the garden, it will happily grow in a well lit, sunny spot in a pot (like mine - have had it for 30 years in 4 different houses). I think it works better than peppermint 😊

    Chop that salad! I always chop my veggies as small as I can, layer it in beautiful, colorful layers and dress with fresh citrus juice (I squeeze orange or lemon wedges over my salad) and then chew it up! A chopped salad is so much easier to eat, you will eat more salad!

    Thank you for these tips! FYI the reason canned beans are easier to digest is because the fermentable carbohydrates (in this case oligosaccharides) are water soluble, therefore a good deal of them are released into the water in the can. They should be drained and well-rinsed to further remove these fibers - this is especially helpful for people struggling with bloating, gas, IBS, etc. These fermentable sugars and fibers are known as Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides and Polyols - aka FODMAPS.

      I'd like to know what u have to say. Protein is so overhyped. In the begining vegans on yt were saying we don't need to focus on protein. Now it's popular to promote the processed protein powders which I won't do. Nor do I like tofu/tempeh and I do not eat nuts and seeds. Dr McDougall doesn't put emphasis on protein. But I do wonder what he'd recommend. Another note, I can tell when I need more protein, I crave eggs. But if I added a little more to my daily diet Id never crave eggs

    These are all such great tips. #1 - relax - is SO important. I've learned on my own personal food/health journey that if I am anxious, I either lose my appetite or become nauseous and end up eating too little. I've also experienced the opposite, where stress can cause over-eating. Either way, it's so important to find that zen and be mindful and relaxed while eating, which also makes eating that much more enjoyable, being able to appreciate all the flavors and sensations of the food that nourishes me. 💗🧘🏻‍♀️ I would also add that posture while eating is very important. Eating while slouched or laying down (like snacking in bed) can cause some indigestion, for sure!

    Thanks Derek for the tips, especially #1 and #2. A few months back I was in a bad habit of wolfing down my food--perhaps most notably sofritas+guac burritos from Chipotle--on my work lunches while texting emailing returning phone calls and watching youtube videos. I was having gas in higher volume and deadliness than I was comfortable with, and I had anxiety and negative feelings. After watching this video I made a renewed effort to appreciate my food, relax before eating, and to chew more thoroughly. I was not confident that these measures would help as I thought I had a more serious gut issue, but I naturally wanted to try some quick fixes first. I don't know, "chew your food a lot" and "relax before eating" sounded kind of like cop outs to me...like a pro gymnast telling an out of shape guy off the street to just grip the bar harder to do a muscle up. Well, some time has passed with this new regime, and I can happily say that I was mistaken. Flatulence has since fallen to socially acceptable levels in quantity and potency, and resultant negative feelings are gone. Sometimes we just need simple tips and the will to try them. So, thanks again Derek.

      @vrab. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adam Rotering - in the beginning you get gas and go to the bathroom more. Your colon, intestines, kidneys, and liver, are filtering. You’re cleaning the system and the dirt and grime have to exit. It stabilizes over time depending how bad they were it may only be a month or two. Your digestive system will work way better from this cleansing and the gas will stop. Hope that helps😊

    Hey thanks for this ! I been vegan 3 years and I find I get bloated when I don’t eat enough calories, I am very active and if I don’t get enough to eat, it’s almost like my body holds on to what I got and doesn’t wanna pass anything thru so I try to eat often and never get starving or dehydrated throughout the day:)

    Food combining is a big one too!! You should mention it even though you don’t follow it much.

    I’m so glad I found this video. I started watching because my mom has been having problems with her digestion and gas. When you got to the digestive bitters part though I was fascinated. This described what she was going through perfectly. Definitely going to look up some bitters for her and probably myself too. Thanks for sharing!!!!

    If you have bloating and drink a lot of carbonated water you might want to try switching to still water, it definitely made a noticable difference for me!

    Where to begin with this video?!
    Been having funny digestion recently, like painful bloating - strange popping type movements (but I don't look bloated). So now I've gone away for a month (to become a yoga teacher ^_^) to a different country I plan to re-evaluate my food intake which has been very high in sugar and more in processed food lately, but all these tips are incredible. They're so simple and will be so helpful, I hope they can help with the painful sensations too, thank you so much!!! Sorry for the essay, but your tips have helped me before so looking forward to trying these! Xx

    Right when I heard you say the first step of eating in a relaxed state, I had just finished inhaling my meal 😂 and I don’t think I chewed it well hahah (step 2). I have to say you have inspired me to be vegan. I grew up vegetarian (moms a vegetarian and my dads a healthy eater too) so it was easier for me than most. And not a milk drinker. And I’ve been doing well on it (a little cheese or butter here and there and maybe a little fish (so not 100% yet) but I feel better than ever. I’m getting over a 9 month bedridden candida illness and this is really kicking the last little bit of it in the butt (long story but it has been horrible, my health was in the toilet). And I’m only 28 years old! Also, you inspire me to get back to the gym after being bedridden for so long, just went for my first workout today in so long and it felt so great! Thank you so much for what you do. You’re awesome! ✌🏻❤️

    11:45 your proposition of coffee is 100% correct. However, it should be noted that coffee can help clear a congested liver and bile duct, therefore increasing digestion in a certain way.
    Its certainly a give or take situation.

    These are great tips derek! They all help me quite a lot. Another tip I would suggest to keep a positive mindset about what your eating. Especially when trying new foods or a new diet. No matter what you are eating, does you best to avoid negative thoughts such as "i shouldn't have eaten that" or " that was unhealthy" or "that was to much" or that "cost to much" etc. Instead CHOOSE (sometimes it is easier then other but you always have a choice) to feel good about the food, feel good about the nutrients it will give you not matter what it is. And be thankful and mindful on each bite. Cheers!

    It’s also highly recommended to work with a gastroenterologist if you have continued issues. Important procedures like upper endoscopes and colonoscopies can help properly diagnose any digestive issues you may be having. And they cause absolutely no damage to you.
    Also there is an sugar called raffinose in things like broccoli that cause bloating as well due to it being undigestible but things like pickling (I believe) can help strip that out of those types of vegetables
