My main question is what happens when people put wet umbrellas back into the box. There’s no way for them to dry. These things would get moldy and disgusting within days
Good point, and if there’s some type of drying mechanism, that just makes it more expensive.
Didn't think of that. Great input.
What happens if people never put umbrellas back, how are you going to chase them to pay that 40 bucks
@@Leeeooowwww exactly, it’s such a terrible idea 😂
@@Leeeooowwwwyou pay by credit card so they charge your account.
This is not the worst idea. The worst one was the guy who wanted to implant the bluetooth device in the person's skull via a surgery. Anyone remember that one?
Yeah, I would have to agree putting a charger into your brain is a bad idea😅 Especially now and days when bluetooth is becoming even better
😂yes
Yes but Elon musk is already implanting things in ppl at least his is for better purpose to help ppl
How can anyone forget that insane idea
You mean Elon Musk?
Woke up at 4am in Melbourne, Australia just to eat my lunch to watch this new episode just posted from 10 years ago
Hope you had a good lunch 😂😂👍
Australians eat lunch at 4:00 am?
Thinking about renting an umbrella?
Nah shark tank go federal 😎
This comment makes no sense and I love it for that
It was a bad idea but certainly not the worst idea ever recorded on Shark Tank
4:04 😂
Why you yelling at me Its not my company 😂
😂😂
After that "Oh sucks, it's horrendous"
Kevin was right. Went out of business.
is it true?
I’m kinda surprised they never touched on Marketing this to coffee shops or restaurants… the customers would HAVE to come back to return the umbrellas and increase chance of buying more food/drinks.
This is a great suggestion. Thank you
The minute I arrive to a place that doesn't have the box I would have to find another box to return the umbrella. Even if its only a minute away thats a minute of me walking in the rain to my actually destination with no umbrella now. You would need a box literally everywhere for this to work and for those reasons I'm out.
every time I hear "worst idea ever" I think of the guy who wanted to mine the ocean for gold; his whole pitch was a drawing of a derrick with attached hose and funnel
The cyclone guy ..... Or something like that
No, it's gotta be the guy who put a foot long freaking charger into his brain for bluetooth wireless 😅
@@chucktalor716YES!!! The ear implant! I could watch that over and over again 😂. “Derrick we’re going to do surgery.. on people?” LMAO
There was a guy on dragons den Canada who drew a loop and then asked for $25 million
100% agree with Kevin on this one
5:08 Barabara really impressed me here 😂 she had absolutely no point
It got friend zoned
The 12 hour time of rental shows they didn't even think this through. If this box is next to my office building, and I rent one for my walk home as I leave at 5pm, I have to return it to that same box by 5am the next day? Makes no sense.
You can drop it off the next day and pay for 24 hours instead of 12
What if Your Apartment has another box , where you can just drop it when you reach home. Or take it from your home and drop in office box .
Really good idea for me
I think a better idea would just be to buy an umbrella.
It's not like it's hard to check the weather anymore
@@kat-zf8mctrue I think they really have to try to pilot with more than one box per campus. Otherwise they might end up making most of the money from no returns 😂. Lugging around an umbrella to return it is almost as good as carrying your own if there aren't many boxes out there
So Americans buy umbrellas to use one time and then throw them in the trash? And they tell the whole world to go green?
Bro. These dudes are multi millionaires. Of course the average person doesn't do that...
They use dryer machines when there's a 40 C° degree weather outside that could dry their clothes rapidly
@@magalyalarcon7179 we don't own land like that to be able to do that. It also does not get that hot in most of the states
Just imagine the smell of them being returned wet and cant dry properly lol
Kevin hated this but loved the bacon alarm clock lol 😂
Gag gifts are the best gifts
By checking the weather forcast someone can easily sell umbrella outside rent out station 😂😂😂 they be out of business if there’s real competitors
Kevin's face is everything.
You should see his face when they jump on the doggy bed on the funniest episodes its Hilarious
Damon's final thought was probably the most valuable out of this episode. Would be a great way to pivot. Kevin really needs to be more productive basically.
I bet when friends and family told them it wasn't a good idea they called them haters
2:44 😂 Mr wonderful 😂
The craziest part is that they have to make or buy all of the umbrellas too. Its like an ungodly combo of digital and physical logistical nightmares. And of course they are no longer in business
They said they get the umbrellas for free
Ridiculous idea...some states it never rains. Plus there needs to be a box everywhere if it starts raining...dead money lol
The idea would be great if they are selling them and not renting them.
Probably cause returning things is hectic. But with the cost of the box, I doubt it would be profitable. Might as well hire a vendor to sell umbrellas
The bottom of the box will always be wet with water flowing out due to the return of wet umbrellas to the top 😂
That’s not even an issue lol. They could fix that with a design if they haven’t already😂
@DonaldPalacios Great so another expense for the technology to dry them. Also what’s stopping people from simply not returning the umbrella or returning a cheaper one? Horrible idea.
Creates more stress on a rainy day. I’d need to use my credit card and then find a box to return it. Hoping i wouldnt have to pay any damage fees.
Exactly, they claim that people will rent these to get out of the rain, but if it’s on the street and need to get their credit card out and type in their email address they’ll be soaked before even getting the rental
So it’s still an inconvenience for any new customer and returning customers have to hope that the box is near them
An umbrella vending machine would be waaaay better
Terrible margins. Unpredictable usage rate. Takes a while to break even per box. I see it being cool at theme parks but honestly they're going to need a LOT of scale ...
I don't think it's evil.... I just don't think it's profitable.
There are dumb ideas, and then there are dumb ideas, this was a really dumb idea.
Seems like a likeable couple and im sure the experience will help them to cteate something thats a bit more practical!
This is a stupid idea, imagine ur off work, its raining, u find the machine pay for this umbrella. Take the train home, next day its not raining, u have to takethe umbrella on a sunny day, take a detour before work to return it....just....dumb
On a rainy day they only grossed $37.5 off of 25 rentals. That’s not a business. They can make more flipping burgers at McDonald’s
Chris-"I live in California, i'm sure we won't see rain for another 5 years...🤣
I wear a hoodie or hat, problem solved
Barbara nailed it
Woke up eating breakfast watching this new episode ✌️
I'm with Kevin
Take this idea behind the barn and put it out of bgg its misery.
I love Kevin 😂😂😂
They should of just put up a bunch of umbrella boxes with cheap disposable umbrellas with no returning
Answer to their first question: You wear a F***ING RAINCOAT
It's actually a great idea, but it is flawed. It would only work if you had thousands of these machines everywhere all over the city on every street, because the problem with it is the returning of the umbrella. If you rented the umbrella from somewhere that it started raining so you could walk home, or get to a train or bus and then got home, you are never going to do that whole journey all the way back to where you rented the umbrella from just to return it, so in reality then it costs you $40 because it's not worth the time and effort going back to find the machine to return it ...
What if I kept their umbrella and returned a cheap one? How would they know it was me?
Why return anything then on that basis.
What if you use a stolen credit card to rent the umbrella and never return it?
@@keithhodgson6489To save 40 dollars duh?
It should be a part of college as a free service for students next to bus stations and students could rent them by their students ID. This would work better. And the same for companies or other organizations.
Its a horrible idea. I put a wet umbrella back in the box, and now the box is wet and creates mold.
If they had germ wipes in a container in train stations, air terminals, cruise ships, hotels, stadiums , hospitals that charged a fee each month not only for the container but how many containers they use, they could make a good profit. You could also have a mini vending machine in all places which release individual containers of germ wipes for $7.50-$8.00, 4 ounces of liquid hand germ cleaner, hand gloves. Make everything biodegradable. The last thing you want to do is pass along germs from people who are sick.
This isn’t like Citibikes where you need it everyday. Rain happens once in awhile and when it happens the last thing u want to to find some umbrella machine.
Interesting idea, but what happens when umbrella damage or wear and tear starts?
I guess the machine has to be set up to allow people to get an immediate replacement if they get a faulty one.
The rental price isn't bad though and once you have an account set up, you might not need to use your bank account all the time
"Alright, Chris, step up, RUN THIS THING." - Kevin
😂😂😂
Damn so thats what happened to John Connor after they replaced him with Dani. What a shame lmao
Make it a vending machine. And replace the umbrellas with cheap raincoats. You are welcome.
How can you trust these two when first her name is “youshouldcomeonmypotty” and his forehead and face are stretched out.
These would only be profitable in populated areas where it rains a lot. Aka places where people already own lots of umbrellas…
Kevin is right, but he is so arrogant and greedy. It works for television and ratings.
Its an act mostly
He crushed a lot of people
Glad he's nicer now
The most impressive thing about this pitch, is that chick pronouncing her name.
I can't see how this company would make any realistic returns.
I look up to the sky and kiss the rain... I Love the rain... I need no shelter from it.
Your limiting your market to only rainy days in certain areas not a lot of money to be made
I think itd work like in tokyo where vending machines have everything so the idea wouldnt be foreign to them
Bergen, in Norway, has umbrella vending machines. At least it did, when I visited.
that Chris shark don't know how to do business. still an amateur
Actually saw this concept in the streets of Singapore and found it very cool
I only heard of umbrella dryer/locker. You still have to bring your umbrella to begin with.
You know why they f'd up? They werent Yewish
I live in the PNW and I’ve literally never seen someone carrying an umbrella because literally nobody cares.
if I saw this on the streets, I'd laugh so hard.
Three big issues: security, maintenance, and restocking. Especially on college campuses, I could see students vandalizing the machines just for the fun of it (they machines don't look terribly sturdy). Even if the machines are vandalized, they need to be serviced on occasion, which requires someone to run around and maintain them; if the machines are scattered widely apart, that could be a logistical nightmare. Finally, who is ensuring that the machines stay stocked with umbrellas? If there's a sudden storm and everyone gets one of the umbrellas, how does the company know the machine is empty? Since the umbrellas could be returned to another machine anywhere, I could foresee "out of brellies" signs here and there. And if that happened often enough, folks would start to ignore the machines and find umbrellas the old-fashioned way.
Mr. Wonderful is far from wonderful. If he thinks it’s a terrible idea he doesn’t have to be rude about it. He behaved like a child here.
I agree with you. He's been nicer in newer seasons so maybe the producers told him to cool it
No, the Bluetooth wireless thing in your brain with a foot long spear you have to jam in your head to charge it is my vote for worst
Kevin is right. This is a bad bad idea.
A really good quality waterproof poncho will cost you around $30 and will fold into the size of a lunchbox. F*ck umbrellas. A poncho will keep you dry in any environment, not just the urban commute. It will also last you for years.
12 hours seems like a lot on time on paper, but in terms of rentals boxes it's short
Say I get caught in a storm and rent one in a city while running errands now instead of having an umbrella that may last me one day, I'm thinking in the back of my mind: "I need to remember to return this" but if it's supposed to rain all day then I'll need another umbrella or go without one anyway
Not only do I need to hope their box is on the street I'm currently on, but then there's the backtrack of returning the umbrella because where they are currently there's probably only one box within a mile or longer
After doing that once most people will think that they'll either pack their umbrella or get the cheap umbrella because their service becomes a chore
Depending on rain sucks. In a rainy season where it rains all week restocking would be a nightmare and most of all how would one verify a legit umbrella return. Whats to stop bad actorsnl from renting a good umbrella and returning a fake one. Horrible idea
Great, Chris 😒
Rent an umbrella? what's next, broom rentals?
That's just a $40 umbrella vending machine with extra steps.
This is good but I need insurance for my umbrella because I’m so over it
stupid product
Seasonal business so the cost and space of having these boxes all over the city doesn't work
If at all, they should focus on the university idea
I can't believe more than one person actually thought this was a good idea.
💩 idea
Whats the cost of mainaning the boxes. Ie someone has to go to each bin every night to reset the box, make sure no one threw trash in them, check the item is not damaged, dry them out... seems like a lot of work.
Plus wheres the revenue when its not raining in the summer and so on.
There’s literally a Seinfeld about everything
Not a good idea. Find something that people use everyday maybe
i like the idea I would use it, in cities like Berlin this happens but it should be like $1 for 24 hours
the company went under in 2018. i agree, its not the best business idea
i keep the 5 dollar brellas for a along time, you just have to hold them right
I’m not even 1 minute into this video and I can tell you this is a horrendous idea
A hood? Lol
Kevin's right - it's a truly dumb idea
Jesus loves you all, God Bless✝️
Yo if this works I’m renting out rain boots when it pours
Shark say the same thing to coat check if i remember it right..
This is a stupid idea parading as a brilliant idea.
It's easier to get one from a street vendor and throw it away in the trash later
Who's the girl. She's stunning!
It was a bad idea. Definitely it the worst!
Bad idea. They will be moldy in no time.
Мейвиз рибячи одбивние хочеш
I am with Mr. wonderful. That is the dumbest idea on the face of this earth. If you have umbrella boxes all over the city, they’re going to be graffitied vandalized, smashed. stupid!
And they'll be taking up space and being worn down when it's not the rainy season
But it rains all year round in in most states. Even in snowy states we get wet snows. @@fafster6439
I agree this is a horrible idea
Bad idea
I don’t think it’s a bad idea.
