That was amazing especially with Robin Willams in it 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for watching!
I can't wait for more Episodes of The New Laugh In 😂😂
Neither can I, Vinnie.
I can. The original was better. I never missed a show.
@@talon1706 Which ran 🏃🏻 on NBC from January 22, 1968-May 14, 1973, of course. Meanwhile, _The New Laugh 😄-In_ ran on NBC as a series of six hourlong specials, which aired 💨 from September 5 (Labor 👷🏻 Night 🌚), 1977-February 8, 1978, and was rerun from June 6-July 4 (Independence Night 🇺🇸🌚), 1979, at 8 pm Eastern, as in the next ➡️ five specials.
Sergio Aragones is also the guy who not only did the animations for this show but also did the comedy animations for all the Dick Clark blooper specials beginning in the 1980s.
@@charlesallan-ks6gq the TVs bloopers and practical jokes is included as well.
Most well known for MAD magazine.
@@aquatarkus2022Yep, which is why a copy of Mad probably popped up in this episode.
Sadly, by the time "Laugh In" was revived by NBC in 1977, this type of quick punch line sketch comedy had fallen out of style,
"Saturday Night Live" was now the top dog show and it was far edgier as a result. It can and did go places that "Laugh In" could not and pushed the creative envelope further.
Dick Martin once said in TV Guide that Saturday Night Live did the things that OG Laugh-In couldn't do because they were on in late night as opposed to prime time.
Good point!
Lorne Michaels was a writer on Laugh-In early in his career, pre-SNL.
October 10 (Columbus Night 🌚), 1977, to be exact.
@@charlesallan-ks6gq Yep 👍🏻.
@@charlesallan-ks6gq Good 👍🏻 one ☝🏻.
@@charlesallan-ks6gq I’m not sure 🤔.
@@charlesallan-ks6gq Another good 👍🏻 one ☝🏻.
@@charlesallan-ks6gq Yet another good 👍🏻 one ☝🏻.
You have got to LOVE a show that brings us Bea Arthur ("I AM WOMAN!!"), Robin Williams, and Waylan And Madame.
We agree! It's a whole lot of fun 🎉
Bea Arthur got a Supporting Actress for a Variety/Musical Emmy nom for this, just one month after winning her first Emmy on "Maude."
July 7th for Episode 3??? (I hope ) 🥰
I sure hope it’s even sooner than that!!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾😆
Oops, it will be on the 30th! You get your wish, Logan!
@@clownjewels YAYYY!!!🤩🤩🤩You know I’ll be here!!👌🏾
Lenny Schultz was a really funny guy. Long retired but still with us at 90.
@@charlesallan-ks6gq Good 👍🏻 one ☝🏻!
I had forgotten he even existed. What a wack job.
@@aquatarkus2022 I know. And furthermore, it's spelled whack (but not wack, just whack) job, but close enough. LOL 😆!
@@jamesmcclelland1414 Get bhack.
Wasn't he Donald Duck at 1 Point 😂😂😂😂
I love the little cartoon guy that drags a flag with a saying across the screen at the end of a segment! They seem like random non sequiturs. Does anybody know what they mean?
I never saw Ben Powers in anything other than 'Good Times'. Also a couple of cameos from Rodney Allen Rippy of commercial fame.
Bill Rafferty was on Real People after this which was created by George Schlatter as well.
You know your TV history!
Known Bill the most from hosting the nighttime version of Card Sharks and Blockbusters.
@@UNCJerry77 Bill hosted a short lived game show before card sharks and blockbusters called every second counts. That was for the 1984-85 tv season.
@@clownjewels Let's not forget Fred Willard. At this time, he finished Fernwood 2-Night and it soon came back as America 2-Night.
Yes he was, and so was John Barbour, who appeared in later episodes of this show.
0:24 Keith from Good Times!
gerry wilson always admired sergio aragobes as artist/writer didn't kno0w till now he was a;so an acor
Without Nixon and Vietnam (to say nothing of Rowan and Martin), and with "Saturday Night Live" offering topical satire without the cutesiness, coming up with its own catchphrases ("Jane, you ignorant slut"; "Never mind"; "We're from France") to replace "You bet your sweet bippy," the world didn't really need a new "Laugh-In." Too bad: talented cast, with a couple of breakouts.
Funny, funny.Funny attempted to revitalize the laugh in back in 77.
Obviously no Rowan and Martin in this one. But the guest stars were great.
I vividly remember a skit on Laugh-in....not sure if its this version of laugh-in or the other one.
It was of a lady who wore several multi colored feathers arranged up in her hair like a feather duster.
She also wore a medium length pink gown/dress....
She was sitting on a couch smiling...
She stood up and started to laugh, her laugh was very unique and she would bow a few time's.
Can anyone tell me who performed that skit,
Or what episode of laugh-in it was on?
It sounds like a mix of some of Lily Tomlin’s characters.
Actually that’s probably Joanne Worley from the original cast
@@BrianWrench-mu2rh aah, yes! That does sound like JoAnne.
@@clownjewels Yes and had that loud yell she did lol
"Sock it to me!"
💦
Really Cool show 😅
Thanks for tuning in!
At the time, Seals and Crofts had released the soundtrack album for the basketball movie "One On One", which featured that fabulous single "My Fair Share". I had to wait more than thirty years to find that single, but it was worth it! 👍
John Barbour sighting. Another one who later was in Real People.
41:05 Jack Harrell, he was the off camera announcer on Real People and the original announcer on the People's Court.
The live audience was a mistake. It was a drag on the actors' pacing, and made the Joke Wall unwatchable. There was also a lack of groundedness that Rowan and Martin and Gary Owens provided.
Excellent observations and true. Thanks for watching!
@@waynechapman9823 No, but Dan Rowan's ATTEMPTS to ground him enhanced the irony.
Mutually agreed! Those garish, talking head themed (with no relation to the band) Joke Wall doors do no favor, either! The Joke Wall simply isn’t the same without its vaguely tie-die color scheme, iffy script material aside.
@@shoelaceagleto8398 More importantly, in the original version the focus would move across different areas of the screen, leading to unpredictable compositions. In the reboot, it was always two parallel doors, a very static composition.
@@danielwillens5876 Once again, agreed! A major appeal to the Joke Wall was genuine spontaneity, you don’t find that here.
As a great man in a pith helmet once said from behind a potted plant "Very Interesting, but stupid!"
@@charlesallan-ks6gq Was that before or after he spent a week turning letters on Wheel of Fortune? (I wish they'd find one of those)
great...love it Henry Fonda is a suprise & Ralph Nader! Robin Williams as old man is great!
A disparate group of people, for sure!
BEA ARTHUR: "I AM WOMAN!!"
Special Guest Stars: Beatrice Arthur, Rodney Allen Rippy, Roger Moore, Seals & Crofts, Ilie Nastati, Barry Goldwater, Jack Harrell, Henry Fonda
Did Rowan & Martin have anything to do with the new one?
No, they did not.
They Sued George Schlatter to Stop the show and won, That's why none or the originals appeared at all no one was asked
@@clownjewels They Actually were never told the show was going ahead until they read about it in the papers and sued George Schlatter and won, That put a stop to redoing the show for good, none of the originals were even told of it, that's why none of them appear.
While some of that was funny, overall it also comes off as tryhard.
Although yes, its fascinating seeing Robin on this. He's undeniably the best part of this.
I do wonder... was a white guy with a black puppet with GIGANTIC lips not even slightly questionable then?
Yes it was. But Flowers' whole act was about pushing buttons.
A lot of this would be questionable now, not to mention dated. There’s a lot of people who wouldn’t get the Anita Bryant and Jimmy Hoffa jokes now.
Im watching this with my mouth hanging open. It's just SO AWFUL!!!!
this is awful all of the charm of the original is gone
Cringe, embarrassing, horribly unfunny - like Saturday Night Live for at least 35 years.
Honestly, the original “Laugh-In” hasn’t aged well for me either. They had a very talented cast, a lot of singing, some iconic gags, and Tiny Tim, but the topical jokes are dated now and quite a few jokes were old even back then. It was something new at the time and undeniably fun, but subtlety was definitely not their forte.
Goldie sure was cute though!
@@waynechapman9823 I watched the old one as well, and I agree some jokes were a little dated from being topical, it still held up fairly well. With this you can all ready see the start of woke culture. I do like this a bit better than the first one though.
Only the 70's could screw up such a 60's classic.... Oh, and Wayland Flowers makes Liberace look like John Wayne 😂
Did you not see 'All In The Family' and 'MASH'? They were funnier than anything made in the 60's. Homophobia stinks by the way.
Now that’s NOT kosher!
Can I have seconds?

Aside from Robin Williams, this later version of Laugh-In didn't work because the anti establishment/ anti corporate jokes were out of date for viewers under 21
Nah
Speak for yourself. I was 12 at the 1979 reboot and thought this show was the funniest thing on television. I taped the episodes with my parents VHS and watched them many times afterwards.
