Some of that isn't my fault (PC has been dead for weeks, full story on Discord/Patreon) but to be honest, I got a bit in over my head with this, and recording/editing ended up taking 2-3x as long as usual. It was very underwhelming to me. Best part of it in my opinion was the real life and social aspects. When it came out me and my younger brother went running about in a dry river bed cause the GPS data for our town was bad and it placed chests in the middle of the jungle. It definitely has fun memories attached to it in my mind, but they aren’t really about the gameplay. Social games can be like that.

    Most of what you described as "VR" is actually AR; "Augmented Reality".
    AR is the "augmentation" of reality by overlaying something onto the real world, like how the hololens places Minecraft worlds over our real world.
    VR is a "virtual reality" that is its own entire experience, disconnected from the world outside the game or headset

  • @BirbIrl
    @BirbIrl ปีที่แล้ว +4

    this is incorrect. These were presets to build off of, not "to build". You're basically buying "plots" with blocks you can collect there and make whatever on it.
    You're not restricted in building on minecraft earth except for the blocks you collect and buying plots only allows you to have more places to build things on. Nothing's stopping you from buying the desert preset, mining it out and building a nether fortress inspired house
    also you couldn't see other people's builds as you walk around. I've no idea where you got those ideas from lol

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Yes, you could on paper build anything you wanted, but in practice, not really from what I can tell. Collecting blocks was excruciating, and many of those buildplates didn't come with many of them, so you were effectively limited to either the default build or some rearrangement of its materials. I combed through hours and hours and hours of Minecraft Earth content - probably about 90% of what's on TH-cam, as I literally scrolled through 4-5 pages for every single search I did - and never once saw anyone building something fully custom.
      2. Are you sure you couldn't see other people's builds? I mean, I can't confirm since the game's since been taken down obviously, but every news article or video tutorial I've seen regarding buildplates says they can be dropped into the world for others to see. At the very least, I know they were shareable through a link.

    • @BirbIrl
      @BirbIrl ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mcbyt 1: Nope! Getting blocks was really easy! It was hard to get some blocks,like diamond boocks, but wood, cobblestone, iron, clay, dirt etc. were nearly infinite! And things like stone biricks, glass etc. took quarter of a day of farming for a house or smth. It was all paced really well imo.
      The reason why you probably didn't see anything original is because most of yt content is in the perpetual cycle of "Make content upload content" as fast as possible. Sure your lil house will take a day or two but that was kind of the point of the game. I haven't spent a cent and have gotten to build a lot of cool stuff.
      2: Nope. You can't place buildplates around the world. You can only share via link. I think there was a public list of builds but it was moderated. I don't remember much about that and i might be getting it confused but as far as I played with me and my friends, i first needed to know the person to see their builds (either via a friend request or link)
      Imo, as a former player, the reason why the game failed is:
      It needed the highest end technology. Not much else. I was only able to play the game once i had a good phone which had an amazing camera, gyroscope, screen size and processor to support the game, which was year after the release. Otherwise the game is practically unplayable. The possible playerbase for the game was super scarce but I'd imagine the game (or a similar experience) will come back when this technology will become the "old gen"

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BirbIrl Ah, I see where the confusion probably is - that public list of builds was moderated, which must've been what all the old players were referring to when they said you couldn't just build anything you wanted. So privately you had freedom, you just couldn't share anything inappropriate (or potentially anything too challenging similar to how Geometry Dash levels work - not entirely sure how the moderation was handled). I appreciate the info, I've got a much better understanding of how the buildplate system worked now.
      That just goes to show though, how little is known even about a pretty popular game! The wiki is half-empty and full of dead links, tutorial videos are from launch or even pre-launch with any new features not covered, and normal gameplay videos were few and far between with lots of gaps in knowledge. Kind of wild, when you think about it

    You're mentioning VR all the time but it wasn't technically actually VR but AR which is kinda more like the reality app, but it wasn't supported on a lot of phones at the times.

    • @mcbyt
      @mcbyt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, it was technically AR but I think if I started using the terms MR or AR people would be like "what is that", and if I used the terms "mixed reality" or "augmented reality" it would get repetitive fast, so I just went with VR. Most people lump all of them in together anyways

    I played Minecraft earth before and I enjoyed it until it closed.
    This is the problems I think for Minecraft earth
    For me, I believe u gotta be too active while being outside and it gets boring quickly. Minecraft earth requires you to totally focus to be able to do stuff. I believe it isn’t too complicated but it’s just not that suitable for playing outside. Like Pokémon go u can just look at the streets while spam tapping if u are fighting a gym or something
    And if a Pokémon appears your phone can vibrates so u can know. So yeah that’s what I believe to be the main problem.

    Boy. I really wish Mojang creates something like this again. But you know, fixing those issues. I will literally pay to get a game like that again.

    I think it would’ve been great if you could build things around your town/street and everyone who passes by can see the building, in other words “AR minecraft street art” and we could like or dislike it…, and like we could have a world server where everyone can build things around the world and everyone can see it and when you pass someone you can fight them (so a motivation on why you should upgrade your gear) and get there loot. And we could have like a sky statue of someone who is currently top 1 in the city.

    i played it a long time ago and it was good, just good, i didnt see any problems with it, if you just played for 2 weeks 30 mins a day and went out every day you would have everything and you could have built everything just like in normal minecraft

    this game was amazing. everytime i went on vacation and was bored in the car inbetween stops i would start collecting stuff with my sister. i was so upset when it closed… i REALLY hope they do something like it again when phones can handle the vision / there isn’t a pandemic screwing up their release plan
