I own a CX 90. Beautiful, reliable, fast and overall a great quality vehicle. When you own something long enough, eventually things will break and yes, you will come out of pocket. That’s life, and speaks to just about anything. It is a beautiful vehicle and will be extremely reliable for me and my family.

awesome car! but you 100% cannot guarantee the reliability. its a completely new engine with performance over simplicity and reliability in mind. you are the tester for this engine. and if you didnt pay attention to the video the engine its even more complex than a bmw. just to remove the spark plugs the entire turbo will have to be removed. good luck and enjoy it till the major issues arise.

I own a cx-90, you don't need to remove the turbo for the sparkplugs, just a hose that is on top and some panels at the back of the firewall. Definitely more complex that transversally mount 4pot engines but that's the norm with modern premium engines. I also own and have owned multiple bmw and I know how germans like to make things quite complex but it's not the end of the world and the refinement of their engines is quite impressive@@Rockybalboa541

@@clarkkent9080BMWs don't cost what they do because of "premium parts" lol. They cost that much because it costs more to ship german cars here (other than the few assembled here) and companies know they can get away with charging us extra for "german luxury". And so far no ones complaining about the 3.3 turbos on cx90 at all. They're having more teething electrical and programming issues, especially with the PHEV version. And parts for the CX90 might be a little pricier, but probably nowhere near as bad as something of german equivalency since we have better importing deals with Japan. In europe german cars aren't that expensive even.

This engine is a Japanese automotive marvel to the industry and definitely puts Mazda more on the map. I'm happy Mazda is being innovative and ambitious. I'm not worried about this motors reliability as much just on one aspect. Mazda wouldn't spend the money to design a motor that will sink it's unfortunately and undeserved small credibility. Mazda is trying desperately to win customers, not scare them away. I'd trust this engine over most modern American and Korean one's. Look at car repair shops and engine rebuild shops, what brand vehicles do you see alot parked there getting work done? I have yet to see any modern Mazda. I see unfortunately too many newer vehicles with lower mileage needing serious work from all American and some Korean brands, more then most Japanese brands. But I digress, only time will tell ✌🏽❤️

I test drove one of these and loved everything about it except the sound of the engine. I later found out it has fake engine noise pumped into the cabin. I don't think 48V architecture driven by a 0.33 KWh lithium battery is powerful enough to supply load to all sources at once. But I noticed in driving there are some tricks at play... like the start-stop behavior is being driven by the 48V system, not the primary starter. The AC compressor shuts off when i-stopped, but all zones' blower fans can still be set to max speed, catching some recirculated/leftover cold air for a few seconds. And gas engine shuts off while coasting or stopping, with an audible brake regen noise while braking. I don't think the alternator charges the lithium pack but I might be wrong.

one potentially big issue. The two clutches on either side of the mild hybrid in the inline 6 turbo may not be covered under the Mazda Warranty beyond one year or 12,000km. I have contacted 2 Mazda dealers about and Mazda Canada (who told me to contact a dealer). Neither dealers knew the answer and they were contacting Mazda Canada. Two and half weeks later and still no answer. I understands manual transmission clutches not be covered as these are controlled by the driver, however inside an automatic transmission the clutches are controlled by computer programming done by the manufacturer. To me they should be covered. I asked the question because om the Mazda Canada website under warranty it says clutches are not covered and it doesn't say only for manual transmissions. Both dealers thought they would be covered, but thinking and knowing are two different things given the information on the website. If they are not covered I wouldn't buy one for myself. I know the clutch packs in the VW DCT are only covered for 12 months or 12000km so I would never get one of those either. IN my mind it would better if they just mated the inline 6 to a regular 8 speed with a torque converter. Much less complex and likely not much difference in fuel economy.

Dude, if you complain about a $95 dollar piece then BMWs are not for you, or any german car whatsoever. German cars are expensive to maintain, has that been a problem for those brands? certainly not, they keep selling more cars every year and they are still the benchmark in the industry@@clarkkent9080

All that heat shielding to protect a plastic intake manifold? How to over engineer a simple inline 6

Why is the Mazda warranty so skimpy? My last car warranty was 5 years 60k. That’s should be the norm.
I like the CX 90 except, does anyone know more about the problems the Texas Truck Channel brought to attention about the vibration and noise under the floor board?

it is 3 years, but 5y/60k for the powertrain and 10y/100k for the hybrid system.

Japanese has the best plastic. I've seen toyotas and mazdas with plastic intakes and valve covers from 2010 and they still look very much intact today, same for interior plastics. Normally I've seen American vehicles have the worst plastics be it a GM or Ford. And Germans... Well I've seen a lot of broken plastic on VWs and BMWs, just not as corroded looking. But neither are particularly good.

@@know916bound BS. Those plastic valve covers leak. I don't care if its German or Japanese. Its plastic and not a good material to use for valve covers. I've seen tons of Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda with leaking valve covers. A 14 year old plastic valve cover is probably just starting to leak so its probably true you never seen one look bad. Now metal covers with gaskets last way longer.

    • @know916bound
      @know916bound ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@v60polestar88 lol thats literally not a problem with the covers themselves. That has to do with the gaskets underneath which are easily replaceable if you're mechanically inclined. But yes the valve cover may look better or worse depending on the owner by the time its 15 years old. But it won't be a problem for most japanese cars that even a little maintained. Maybe after 30 years they completely fail , because yes they're plastic and clearly inferior to metal ones. But of you even have your vehicle that long its safe to assume it was loved and probably in better condition than most. Which doesn't lead away from the fact vehicles from ("American" 😂) and most German manufacturers are literally worse made.

@@know916bound Its this thinking that Toyota or asian cars are so perfectly engineered that is not true at all. I've own a 2015 Lexus RX 350 and by no means has it been super reliable. The ML amp died and that is a very common issue on all Lexus and if replaced at dealership ists a $4000.00 repair for a damn radio amp. Never had a amp die on any car I've owned. My old 4runner had the 4 piston front caliper problem that plagued all 4runners of certain years and it was expensive to keep fixing. Yes Toyota are pretty reliable but the build quality isnt very good when it comes to rust proofing. In the Northeast they are rust buckets

Come on car makers. So many engines now have the turbocharger sitting on top of the motor for space considerations. Dumbest move ever.....too much heat given off cooking electronics, plastic piping to become brittle, etc. All of the heat shields will not be of help. 8-10 years from now, it will be interesting to see all of the problems with this engine set up. Keeping my CX-9. Which in my opinion will give me much better reliable service in the future.

Because when they buried the turbos down low under wverything in the 80s and 90s it worked out so good for the wiring, hoses, and plastic?😂

get used to it, in a few years most cars will be mild hybrids at a minimum. BTW, what kind of battery do you carry all day in your pocket? litthium right, so yes there is always a concern but come on! you are surrounded by items that have lithium batteries all day long. Tech will only get better.

  • @mger1979

This engine is really overcomplicated, they made it an inline 6 cylinder which causes cooling issues (in a larger engine it's harder to get even heat distribution) that leads to extra effort with the electrical part and etc, the turbo itself is not a simple component but here again it was not done in the simplest way and I did not talk about the transmission which is also new.
Yes, this is a good luxury car, however there are questions about reliability and repairs costs what makes purchasing this car only as a lease option.
