Genetix - what a masterpiece of a song, and this performance is utterly phenomenal. This and The Raven are, amongst many others, two of my most favourite Stranglers songs.
They WERE the best. I've been to see them many times throughout their early years ... untouchable. Then, God know what happened. Even before Dave left, they were embarrassing to watch. It all seemed so fake. You're a liar if you say anything otherwise.
Im very proud to say to all other MIB fellow Stranglets that concert l was at in Nottingham England. They were so professional it is truly astounding. I experienced some brilliant Concerts with them LIVE at Rock City once coming off Stage on a Saturday there at 1.15am in the morning the very first time l ever witnessed or heard Golden Brown with my mates Tony & Richard. Stunning man 🎗x
Agreed. Baz W is second grade compared to the intelligent charismatic and quirky Hugh C. Saw them in Sydney at The Enmore Theatre on 8 Feb 2020 amidst teaming rain and typhoon type weather. I would give them a B- but Cornwell would make that a straight A.
There needs to be more context here. Everybody would acknowledge that this moment was The Stranglers at their peak. But Cornwell's listless, going-through-the-motions final performances were an embarrassment - just look at the final gig before he left. I'd take Baz Warne and his commitment over The Stranglers 1988-90, for example.
Amazing footage. The Stranglers at the top of their game. I think I saw this on an old black and white portable TV at the time. Great memories and saw them not long after this on The MenInBlack Tour in 1981. Thanks for posting.
That was fantastic, thanks for sharing , first time l saw the Stranglers live was in 1979 when they brought the Raven album out with my mate Martin. In Bristols Colston Hall . R.i.P Dave Greenfield and Jet Black
Baz Warne just cannot replicate that arrogant, in yer face, growl of the one and only Hugh Cornwell which we punks and skins of the time could identify with.
This really was The Stranglers at their peak - of all the clips on here this most captures the excitement of seeing them live...sigh! Most underrated band in the history of British popular music.
most underrated band outside britain,,,the outsiders.,,large number of the public and music press tried to deny their existance.,,,not trendy enough,,,ffs
Thanks for the upload fellow Stranglers fan! Loved the version of Tank. One of the best bands ever. In my opinion the first four albums were their best.
th-cam.com/video/TXCRCL0EMV8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=rp61productions Tank also very good on this clip from revolver and Curfew is the best version I've seen.
Hi mate i thought this gig as part of rockstage was at the theatre royal . I was there . Not sure of the year but i think it was before rock city opened
shithotinblack! ....what a fantastic band....often catchy as hell & completely off kilter within the same song....Reading this and curious & want to have an entry point to the band? Buy : 'Rattus', 'Black & White' & 'The Raven' - not only their 3 best albums in my not so humble opinion but 3 of the best albums EVER.......
Genetix - what a masterpiece of a song, and this performance is utterly phenomenal. This and The Raven are, amongst many others, two of my most favourite Stranglers songs.
Dave Greenfield really was the most original / creative keyboard player of all time!
RIP Dave you were and always will be a total legend.
RIP Jet too.
He was also a fabulous musician.
He was perfect for this most awesome of bands.
I was there . I think it was theatre royal before rock city opened . My first stranglers gig . What a night . August 1980
Peak of their Powers!
This is the stranglers i grew up with from no more heros to this and beyond they died after the 96 tears tour when hugh left
Well said man l really couldn't agree more. Never saw them again after 96 Tears Tour hand on my heart. Without Hugh its like Kate without the Bush.
This Video blows me away. The Stranglers in their best Form. Fast, tight, what an energy. I wish I had been there.

Amazing, The Stranglers ...at their peak indeed...the band lives on, but with all respect to Baz& company...this was the real Mc Coy...
Baz knows it.
Hugh Cornwell has never been replaced and as far as I am concerned, the first 5 Albums ( Rattus - Meninblack) were The Stranglers finest!
Agreed. Baz W is second grade compared to the intelligent charismatic and quirky Hugh C. Saw them in Sydney at The Enmore Theatre on 8 Feb 2020 amidst teaming rain and typhoon type weather. I would give them a B- but Cornwell would make that a straight A.
He left of his own accord, he could have stayed as part of the band.

Fucking great
Baz Warne just cannot replicate that arrogant, in yer face, growl of the one and only Hugh Cornwell which we punks and skins of the time could identify with.
Give it a rest about Cornwell for gods sake he left over 30 years ago...get over it...
Saw em at the commodore ballroom in Vancouver do these tunes. Good Times!

Huw Cornwall - Ouch! That'd piss Hugh off! Brilliant vid, top of their game. RIP Dave Greenfield.
Saw them in Derby in early 1981. Great to see this as it's just how I remember them. Still a fan and going to see them regularly.
Amazing. Thanks for these uploads.
Saw them earlier on this tour at the legendary Glasgow Apollo. I was only 12. Still seeing them every year. Great band!
Brilliant
Brilliant.
Never seen them so tight...what a set list as well!
At their best when singing together.
And of course Dave on the immaculate Genetix.
Songs from my two favourite LPs of all time, that must of been one hell of a gig!

Was this rock city anyone what year? Thrown away, a great underappreciated song especially live
Hi mate i thought this gig as part of rockstage was at the theatre royal . I was there . Not sure of the year but i think it was before rock city opened
Seems to have been one hell of a concert. pity I was way too young to see them in their heyday!
shithotinblack! ....what a fantastic band....often catchy as hell & completely off kilter within the same song....Reading this and curious & want to have an entry point to the band? Buy : 'Rattus', 'Black & White' & 'The Raven' - not only their 3 best albums in my not so humble opinion but 3 of the best albums EVER.......
BelleVilleThree NMH was stupendous too :)
For me.lps 2 3&4. For spendthrifts, buy x-cert. The new CD has loads of xtras. And definitive recording of Hanging around
You're very welcome - thanks for watching.
What year was this? 1980? Nice to see Dave on the Vocoder/Vocals and playing that old Oberheim 4 during Genetix.
100mph on this gig..haha brilliant
AR
1:56 / 12:10
Hugh Cornwell
Brilliant, but Genetix is missing the gene theory. Baz does a cracking job of this and they're better at it now than then, imo. Still amazing, tho.
What year was this anybody.
I have a ticket from Nottingham from around 1985.
That was at The concert hall.
Progressive punk-rock.
At their peak yes! Before the stupid "Bruce" "Sheila" crap.
j'ai cru reconaitre Joe Strummer à la guitare ??
