Apparently written after the BBC "Rock goes to College" debacle - Where the band walk off after a couple of songs in protest to the lack of ticket being sold to the local kids...
They were so good back then that they could reject songs like this as not being good enough for album ...or B side single release . This would make any album they could release these days with ease . They produced stuff like this for fun , easy for them back in '79/79/80 .
Don't get me wrong from previous comment - I still love the band , I think Suite Xvi and Norfolk Coast were superb albums , but the whole song writing thing these days does seem a struggle too them compared to the old days , like I said they could do it for fun . They still do the odd classic song , but it does seem a hell of an effort to get there .
This band started out recording their first 2 albums around the same time but when Black and White came out, some of the fans were not happy with the direction the group were headed. By the time The Meninblack album was released, some thought the guys had lost their mojo.
Yet it's a fuckin excellent track and I wish I could get a copy of it on Vynil. At least it didnt go completely to waste, with JJs Euroman Cometh album ...and Yellowcake UF6
It also became Do The European on JJ's Euroman Cometh album
And yellowcake Uf6.
Best punk band from that era
oh my God the stranglers 1978 i love it. my FAVORITE BAND
I've been a fan since '76 never heard this before. RIP DG.
Bet you didn't get into them until '86 more.
AND RIP JET BLACK

Never heard before. Great Stranglers song.
A gem
Great Song, never heard this one before. The Bass Line later became "Do the European".
This is a top tune.🥁🎸🎙️🎧🎹
I fuckin love it
Wish I could get it on vynil.
Just saw that Jet Black died in December, RIP.
Quite simply the best band that ever walked this planet even though they’ve had some down points at times.
This is called “Wasting Time” and was a bonus/extra track on the “Decades” album, possibly only available as a download…
It was originally Social Secs and later renamed to Wasting Time :-)
Thx 🙏❤
JJ obviously utilised some of this for 'Do The European' on the Euroman Cometh album! th-cam.com/video/FXSyAN7P414/w-d-xo.html
It's sounds like the music from yellow cake
anymore photos from the B&W sessions, matey?
Much better than the Yellowcake UF6 rendition of this song.
Sort of a mixture of Swell Maps meets the Clash
What?!
For the English-learners: Does "secs " mean "selections"?
Social secretaries at colleges who wouldn't book The Stranglers.

Could also be Social Security, like the dole.
