You know, the fact that you guys flipped the posters in the background means that it looks like Graham is occasionally staring down Pheonix Wright with a loaded finger at his face.
Pyroblast allows you to target any permanent, even if it isn't blue. This can allow to, for instance, get a young pyromancer trigger even if the target isn't blue.
Pyroblast can target any color spell or permanent; however it can only counter the spell or destroy the permanent if it is blue. Red Elemental Blast can only target blue spells or permanents.
You know what could be fun if the Real LRR Crew met up with the FNM LRR Crew (One of FNM/CH Paul's inventions gone awry ala Mr Balls-ma-tron and the machine that just got hotter and produced more power). Just to see how the larger than life FNM LRR crew would bounce of the Real Life versions
They changed the room layout. At the same time, the posters flipped upside-down. Conclusion: LRR has mastered gravity and is now shooting on the ceiling.
Pyroblast is the objectively better one. The difference is that you can cast Pyroblast targeting non-blue spells and permanents, but not Red Elemental Blast.
Since you didn't say it (unless you did and I missed it), it's probably worth mentioning that the player gets 3 extra turns before the minotaurs get to go.
Pyroblast as compared to Red Elemental Blast: Pyroblast can be pointed at blue permanents. If your opponent only has black permanents, you can't target one with Red Elemental Blast to get a trigger off, say, Guttersnipe. However, Pyroblast can still target it to deal 2 damage to each opponent.
"Counter target permanent if it is blue" contains an intervening "if clause". The target's colour is checked upon casting, and also upon resolution. If the target is no longer blue on resolution, then there is no effect. By contrast "Counter target blue permanent" only checks the colour upon casting, and still has effect if the target has changed colour prior to resolution.
I know this was a while ago, but this is incorrect. "Counter target spell if it is blue" can target any spell, regardless of color. It will resolve as normal, and simply have no effect if the spell is not blue. One common application is triggering a Young Pyromancer. "Counter target blue spell" can only be cast if the targeted spell is blue, and then will only resolve if the spell is blue. This is similar to how hexproof works. You cannot target a hexproof creature, and if you target a creature and it subsequently gains hexproof, the spell will fizzle for illegal target.
There was a case at GP Paris where the difference beetween pyroblast and red elemental blast was relevant, it was a phantasmal image copying a red creature. RED couldn't have targeted it, but pyroblst could and then it had to be sacrificied.
I remember when I went up against the minotaur challenge deck with my Orzhov extort deck (Although during Theros, it almost became a black devotion deck that splashed white) and I think the only reason I won against it was because I had a blind obedience and a tithe drinker to block with in my opening hand.
Is Friday night magic ready for shadows over inastrad. Plus thanks to you guys every Saturday night before our commander game me and my friends would watch y'all
the reason that a popular legacy deck called Fish was named that was because of Mystic Remora. Not to be confused with todays legacy deck Fish, which is just merfolk. I believe some legacy merfolk lists do still run some number of Remora in the sideboard against decks like RUG Delver, etc. T1 aether vial, T2 remora + force spike up is a beating, it lets you just use vial to keep playing your merfolk, while paying for remoras cumulative upkeep.
well sort of. It ran Remora, lord of Atlantis, merfolk of the pearl trident, and my favorite, Dandan. So it did have some merfolk in it. The point was to be an anti-blue anti-control aggro deck, hence the island walk and island home because everyone was playing islands.
The name "Fish" for a deck predates the existence of the Legacy format by a few years. It has a rather murky history and there were probably multiple decks named something like "Fish" in different formats at different times. However, there definitely was an old Extended deck called "Fish" that used merfolk. This deck was ported to Vintage, it evolved and subsequently dropped all merfolk while retaining the name. "Fish" became the Vintage designator for a blue-heavy deck with small creatures, Null Rod, and countermagic. In a format where almost all of the expensive, broken cards ever printed were legal, Fish was the budget deck that stopped other decks from being able to execute their game plans, then beat them to death. Mystic Remora has never, to my recollection, been a prevalent card in competitive Legacy. It's still used in Vintage, though.
Can also be theoretically relevant in Storm, I suppose. You can Pyroblast your own spell, knowing it won't be countered, just to increase your storm count. For the win?
Pyroblast is better in general because it can target anything. This can boost storm or target skulking ghost (more the first). Brianstorm isn't that good without some way to shuffle your deck.
When opening old booster packs, you could consider that the packs are - like today - divided into "chunks" of the rare, the uncommons and the commons. This way, if you know for example one of the uncommons, it's easier to find the rare. In this case the booster started with the uncommons followed by the rare. Also you didn't hit on the misspelling on Balduvian Shaman. (I guess it's easily missed being overwhelmed by the amount of text.) The very first word is "permanAntly". ;-)
Pyroblast checks colour on resolution, REB checks on casting. You can cast Pyroblast on a green spell, change the colour to blue, and Pyroblast will counter it. You target a blue spell with REB, change it to green, and REB would counter it. The other way around doesn't work.
REB would not counter a spell changed to be ONLY green as that would no longer be a legal target. the difference is basically pyroblast(and similarly hydroblast) can target any spell or permanent, they just will have no effect unless on resolution the target has the relevant color, whereas BEB and REB can only target things of the correct color, and they must have the correct color until the blast is done resolving.
REB checks colour on *both* casting and resolution, while Pyroblast checks *only* on resolution. They both counter spells or destroy permanents in the exact same situations, the difference is that Pyroblast can legally target non-blue objects, it just does nothing, while REB can only target blue objects. So, for instance, Pyroblast can be Misdirected to a non-blue target to effectively neuter it, while you can't do the same to REB.
Phoenix Wright is upside down + James keeps making things disappear in the air = Obviously sitting on the ceiling of their own REAL Moonbase! So jealous!
and you could sign the cards and ask fans to alter them and stuff. that would be SO COOL and then i could use kathleen or alex or paul as my commander and i'm out of breath now.
Probably referring to you compensating Yellow Jacket employees for the overtime to shoot there. From an outside perspective it would seem reasonable to think they are becoming so busy due to the publicity your series provides.
Anthony Head Ah! Yes, I imagine the store is. But we like to compensate the staff themselves, it can be a lot to time to "babysit" us while we shoot there.
I love the Friday Night videos. You guys should do more! You should get a series on Netflix for Friday Nights.
We'd be up for it :D
the elemental blast are objectively better so they can't change the color of a card and response.
I love Friday Nights so much. I honestly check every day to see if there is a new one. Definitely the first thing on my mind when I open TH-cam
You know, the fact that you guys flipped the posters in the background means that it looks like Graham is occasionally staring down Pheonix Wright with a loaded finger at his face.
Live from the ceiling of the underground moon-base... But seriously, why are the portraits and posters upside down?
Pyroblast allows you to target any permanent, even if it isn't blue. This can allow to, for instance, get a young pyromancer trigger even if the target isn't blue.
+Caleb Donahue Pyroblast can also be re-targeted with things like Misdirection, REB can't be.
I pulled a foil Mutavault this past week, I was pretty stoked
Pyroblast can target any color spell or permanent; however it can only counter the spell or destroy the permanent if it is blue. Red Elemental Blast can only target blue spells or permanents.

That's enough proof for me.
24:34 "Which is uncommon" "Ya its pretty rare" I see what you unintentionally did there.
The difference between Friday Nights and Top Decking is that Friday Nights is about Magic, Top Decking has a couple vague Magic jokes.
Interesting choice in putting your pictures upside guys.... I blame the moon.
Did anyone else notice James put the giant D20 into Hammerspace?
The paintinga. Lel guys :D
I'm confused O.o Why are all the background pictures upside down?
Pyroblast is the objectively better one. The difference is that you can cast Pyroblast targeting non-blue spells and permanents, but not Red Elemental Blast.
James seems to be doing his best Matt impression all over that mic's levels.
phil foglio, the artist on cooperation at 12:05, is the co-creator of girlgenius, the steampunk-mad science webcomic.
Count how many times james picks up the Ice Age cards, messes with them and then puts them back down, he may or may not have a problem.
Since you didn't say it (unless you did and I missed it), it's probably worth mentioning that the player gets 3 extra turns before the minotaurs get to go.
42:11 I started watching your videos when I was 32. :P
I know this is the last season of sketches
btw :(
but I was just wondering-Is Friday Nights still going to continue, while the sketches stop?
Thanks
We don't plan to stop Friday Nights (or TTC, or our streaming, or our other shows) anytime soon.
"Let's say all the good cards are gone. What shit do you take?" lmao

The blue version of Pyroblast is hydroblast (if you were still wondering).

For future reference guys, in ice age packs rares are the 4th card in the pack

OMGEEEEE nate is on the next Friday Nights!!!

Great, now I want a foxfire theme for firefox.
Cooperation is *so* good!
mostly because nobody understands how banding works... but that's beside the point.

why is the stuff in the background upside down?

+Dextrus He's still 10. His username is GTADolpin...
Why is Phoenix Wrigt upside down?
Why are all the pictures upside down, and why is the 4 in 2014 different?
When's your next Friday nights video?
I was packing a suitcase whilst listening to this podcast, but I wish it was to go buy a box of p3k.
How close are are your Friday nights characters compared to your actual personality?

Phoenix Wright is upside down + James keeps making things disappear in the air = Obviously sitting on the ceiling of their own REAL Moonbase!
So jealous!
You could use the lands like new benalia. The worse scary lands
you guys should Totally carry around the cards you have for the intros to friday nights and give them out to fans. PLEASE

Sorry, I'm confused :)
