Hi ! When I read "I'm proud to be Brasilian", the person that had written that CAN be proud. I must say that I'm a big Brasilians' songs fan, had bought the 2 Djavan's songbooks, and had uploaded half of my videos with Brasilians' songs, Carlos Lyra, chico Buarque,G.GIL, & the songs from Vinicius or Tom jobim,Djavan, for sure, etc...& I'm a big Bowie fan too, got 16 vynils+17 CDs of all his songs classified years they had been written by years...Very cool version of "changes". American pop music would not exist without African and European vernacular music and instrumentation. It did not suddenly spring up fully formed in America one day. Like all musical styles it is a synthesis of pre-existing genres. And if you want to know who David Bowie's influences are, look at his covers album Pin Ups. There are no American acts represented on it.
This is Seu Jorge interpreting David Bowie, not John Williams interpreting Tárrega. I personally enjoy the sound of the fingers sliding over the strings, don't think you have heard much Brazilian popular music, but it's quite common in that kind of music. A good sense of functional harmony, that's what really counts as technique in this type of music, and Seu Jorge has it. Hehe, Americans, what would they know about spanish/classical guitar anyways?
