Silly trying to protect your clocks. The chances you'd get a 2nd set stolen are extremely remote. The guy who stole them probably wanted them for himself.

    • @billy4rocks

Even less remote now that I’ve made them more secure. I cant afford not to be silly.

    Great review. Thanks.
I’ve had my Explorer from new in 2015 and it does everything I want it to. My wife is always on the back and it performed as though she’s not there. Fantastic bike. No reason to upgrade. I’ll keep it until it dies. Love it love it. Buy British. Support our Heritage.

I bought in 2013 Launch Edition Explorer and never looked back. Throughout the years, she has given me nothing buy great moments tbh. I never thought I was going to keep her for such a long time but for me, she is like a great wine! She gets better and better every year. Last year I upgraded her with top of the line Touratech Extreme suspensions (front and rear). This suspension changed the bike's behaviour dramatically (for the better). Now, I wouldn't change or sell the bike. Trust me, the new bikes (whatever they are), aren't any better than this one and are 10, 15 or even 20000 euros more expensive than this one. Happy owner got many years to come.

Nice one Santiago, i think if I was going to upgrade it would only be for a later generation explorer anyway, i love the Desert edition.

Great to hear your praise for your bike, I’m only 3 years and 12’000 miles into Explorer ownership. I’ve been on camping trips to Wales and Scotland. Now I’m looking forward to more touring next year. I’ve added the MRA spoiler to the touring screen to reduce wind noise. Great bike and I’ll be definitely be keeping it for a bit longer.

I've about 48K miles on my '13 Explorer. I'm about 5'7" with a 27" inseam - so it seems to fit a wide range of sizes. 😁
I've fitted the low seat, Jesse luggage, SW-Motech bars and skid pan and Clearwater Erica lights. Also a Madstad windshield and side wings. The only issues that I've had are a throttle body that came loose at about 10K miles and fork seals failed at around 40K. Oh yeah - the center powerlet socket was flaky (replaced from my bits collection).
I'm getting older (78 in about a week) and so bought a Guzzi V85TT to replace the tiger in 2020. Well... that hasn't happened. Need to sell the Guzzi.

i saw this bike when it first came out in 2012, and fell in love with it at first sight. I took a picture of it, but at the time i didn't have a bike licence and wasn't looking to get one either, so soon forgot about seeing the bike.
roll on to 2016 and my mates had pestered me into getting my full licence. during my training i went to a large dealership to have a look at types of bikes that would suit me. im 6'4" so needed something that i was going to be comfortable on. Walking up the stairs to the second floor of bikes, the front of the Explorer greeted me. I fell in love with it all over again, totally not realising i had fallen in love with it once before! After a quick sit upon one, i hastily made the financial arrangements and made the purchase. i still had a while to go till i completed my licence, so the bike sat in my garage. i would sit in there just looking at it, not really believing i had such a beautiful bike. on the day of my test i got the bike to the training centre, so i could ride it as soon as i passed. The instructors thought i was mad getting a 1200cc as my first bike.
i passed my tests with flying colours, and now i get out on it whenever i can. its perfect for camping, and i have been all over the UK and parts of France. longer trips are in the works.
It was only the other day that Facebook did a picture reminder thing that they do, the photo i took back in 2012 appeared reminding me of when i first fell in love with it!
falling in love with the same bike twice means it was meant to be. i will never sell the bike and have spent thousands to ensure it is in peak condition. It is my first bike, and i really hope after years of exhilarating touring, it will be my last.

    Nice and insightful review 👌
after riding my Tiger 955i for 65dkm, it braking my foot twice and giving me grief with electrical gremlins i’ve bought my dream bike the 2012 Explorer. Now after 3 years and over 50dkm, total on the clock is 92dkm, the bike is been very reliable! Only had to change the head. Amazingly enough even way past the warranty my dealer managed to source a new head from the factory and I had to pay him only few extra hours over the ridiculous book time he got for the job from Triumph. Other than that no problems. Love the bike to bits it took my all over Europe all the way to Morroco never missed a beat. Is even quite capable off road but only in competent hands, sins am just learning this is not the bike to do it on. There are few negatives though, the brakes are just bad for such bike and the factory suspension is a joke. I had Hyperpro completely redo the forks and new shock now the bike rides like a train! I cant tell how many times i’ve accidentally pulled on the throttle while activating the cruise control 🙈 and the button for the hazards is really in a stupid place too. But that’s about it 😎
Now time came to let the bike go, it is just too heavy and between my bad back and my wife having here own bike now is no point keeping such beast. I am going lighter.

I had the same model, I traded my 955 Tiger for it, and was amazed just how good it was compared to the old one (although there was nothing wrong with the 955). I did over 65,000kms on it over 4 years, with no mechanical problems whatever, although the fairing mount is a bit flimsy if the bike falls over. I had the comfort seat fitted, and added spotlights, an air horn (I live in Australia, the wildlife gets hectic at times), I also fitted adjustable handlebars, as I’m 6’3” also, and thought the handlebars were a bit low and a bit too close, I also had the panniers, top box and tank bag, which gave my wife and myself enough luggage space for a week or more away….I eventually traded it on a 2016 Tiger Explorer, and will admit that it was a better bike in every way, the brakes were better, the cruise control worked just a bit better, and the electronic suspension is a lot better, plus the electrically adjustable screen is a huge improvement, zero buffeting when at it’s highest setting. So if you want an Explorer, I do suggest getting the second generation model, and see just how good a bike can be….

Too versatile for touring, two up adventures and warm winter riding with the heated seats! The newer Tiger 1200s feel much smaller, plus they modified the engine which took away the mid-range growl you get on heavy accelerating. That's a bit too addictive.

I had to change the cam chain, chain tensioner, differential and rear shock and now the front shock bushings. It's quite strange how we got very different experiences of the bikes regarding that perspective. It's a 2013 model.
