I went totally blind five years ago. I just discovered this Ted talk yesterday. It was a relief to hear that somebody else had experienced the fears that I experienced when I went blind. Great talk!
@brandonroths, you could still ask him and he'll tell you how he is, 8 know for a fact that Isaac Lidsky uses readers to help him use his computer. And furthermore Lidsky does encourage feedback.
@XYZyt, In as much as I agree with your prayers, I think as Isaac will say either here or elsewhere his book 'Eyes Wide Open' isn't really aimed at those who have physical eye challenges but to even us 'able bodied' eyes functioning well! Towards the end of this talk he quotes Helen Keller : The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but NO vision.' In as much as Isaac hopes one day to see his tripskies and his sweet baby Clementine for indeed as Scripture says' Light is sweet aha it is pleasing to the eyes to see the sun. Ecclesiastes 11:7 the best prayer therefore should be that Lord, may we have beyond physical sight and see true vision, to see the world, reality as it is not as as we have conceived it to be. Amen
I am the sort of person who worries about everything and then I hear a man like this who suffered a devastating challenge as a teenager and has gone on to accomplish so much. Inspirational and so worth hearing.
"You are the creator of your reality. With that empowerment comes complete responsibility. I chose to step out of fear's tunnel into terrain uncharted and undefined.I chose to build there a blessed life." Beautiful and powerful message.
Wow. Just wow. Tears and chills, the whole nine yards. What an inspiration and a blessing. That is one impressive human being right there! So much love!
My father became blind when he turned 40 and he agonised over losing his vision. He couldn't cope, I've seen blindness destroy him. I'm happy this man embraced his condition and gets to live a happy, fulfilled life.
WOW! That was one good TED Talk!!! We all need to take in what he is saying and use it every day whether we are blind or not. What an exceptional human you are, Isaac.
this is so true. I've dealt with anxiety since i was very young and one of the biggest ways I've managed to overcome it was by helping to retrain my brain to think about all my worries and fears in a different way. As someone who has experimented with drugs well beyond what many would consider experimentation, as someone who has experienced addiction and beaten it, I've led a life fraught with worry. Some of these worries would be things like "what if i start doing drugs again?" "what if im at a party and somebody offers me something and I struggle to say no" "what if im doomed to repeat these same self destructive cycles for the rest of my life" the answer to each one of these worries, and many others, is very simple. What if I start doing drugs again? "don't start doing drugs again" What if im at a party....? "all you have to do is say no" what if im doomed to repetition? "im the only one who controls what I do" I recognize my worries for what they are. They will only come true if I allow them to. To worry is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign to strengthen yourself against that weakness and ensure you don;t allow it to become reality.
A few hundred times! I'm going to memorize his "instruction," so when I start feeling the panic, I can recite his words to myself, because they may be the most important ones I've ever heard! Most of my life I've held others responsible for my situations, and that is going to stop right now! The 20 or so years of life I've got left, are going to be on my terms, and of my creation! Don't waste the time I have, start doing what he says - NOW!!!
This is so much more important than most people realize. So many Ted talks are useless without understanding and practicing what this man is talking about. The solution to so many peoples problems and issues in life can be attained with this Knowledge..
Did you notice how he held out his hand to shake hands with the other guy at the end, even though he couldn't see the other guy's gesture? THAT was impressive!
Not only that, but he actually "looked" at his own hand right after reaching it, just like we do as a way to move the focus to the hand. It's very subtle and he must be doing it consciously, while we all do it unconsciously
I have been exploring my journey of seeing with no eyes. Though I am not blind, you really can see so much more when you close them and experience life.
Turns out to be the finest example of a reality check given by someone. It is going on my top five Ted talks. Lao Tsu, Tao Te Ching level of enlightenment
This whole talk just seemed like one big motivational speaking. First, he talked about his accomplishments and then went to say how the power lies with us, will always like with us etc, etc. And then gives reason why obtaining this is with our grasp. It's all just coming across as a feel good.
There's nothing wrong with you feeling good at the end of a ted talk, he is a man who's turned a great obstacle into his greatest strength. There's something to learn from that
I have Retinitis Pigmentosa, and this was very very inspiring. I'm at a place in life as a 40 yr old who been trying to find my way, with the progressio of my vision loss. I hope one day i can turn things around and become like Issac. Not sure where to start, but i do know i am tired of giving myself excuses and i'm ovaer and done with the pitty party. I'll keep praying that God gives me the guidance he gave that man to have a happy life despite of the huge loss that RP brings.
I actually felt very sad that he lost his sense of sight. It must have been so sad slowly losing such a precious part of the reality we create. He seems to have really overcome that and used it as a strength! Good man.
Anyone else come here from the Mortified podcast? Haha This guy's amazing! Really great insight and love the encouragement to look within and see how we are limiting ourselves.
Yes, it is absolutely correct that losing sight doesn't mean you lost your Vision. The vision was there and it will be until the end. So never let your fear hijack your confidence in this moment. Because fear is like a ripple in the water of reality which produces delusion and confusion about our knowledge, perception, and imagination in an absolute field of reality
WOW, this is amazing, i love all the things he said, and it literally gave me direction, i make a lot of assumptions and have fears before i do something big, and it becomes stressful, but listening to isaac now made me understand that those things are literally unnecessary if u just focus on the bright side of things. Really inspirational :) Glad i watched this! Liked!
Berlin Lincoln Really? So the psycho who mows down a bunch of people with a car on purpose is something I created in my mind due to my deep seated fears of terrorism as an excuse for my lack of achievement in my professional life? Got it!
this was a truly inspiring and touching talk. I have watched countless of ted talks yet this one alike a few I've stumbled upon throughout the year really stuck with me and managed to give me some food for thought. amazing
Fantastic talk and words that i try 2 live by. Unfortunately with identity politics, more and more people want 2 be a victim so I am not seeing 2 many people going this route. Way easier to blame your failures on some one/group then take that responsibilty yourself.

Hi. May your sight be Restored in the Name of Jesus Christ.
I was about to ask how this guy is doing but I realized he won’t see this lol. God bless him!

Exceptionally inspirational with a deep message. Worth listening to a few times.

I agree completely!
Inspired. I'm gonna listen to this every day until I remember it word for word.
You remember it word for word?
@@joshuastaugler9424 Probably must have forgotten this ever happened. Sad truth. I really hope not.
Blown.Away. Added to my monthly TED rewatch list.

I have been exploring my journey of seeing with no eyes. Though I am not blind, you really can see so much more when you close them and experience life.
Oh wow, a rational, scientifically-based, and insightful TED Talk. They should try doing more of these...
This talk is gold, thank you Isaac :)

One could argue that that is your fear talking.

this is one of the best talk I ever heard in ted
This is the first person, Isaac Lidsky, whose words have struck a cord with me, unlike any other. Thank you
The human being is more powerful than we realize, he is a great example.
first video ever i couldn't wait to finish to give it a like. now resume.

Honestly, the best part of his talk was his answer to the other dude's question.
We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams.
we complain every day of our lives and he's blind and lives happier than most of us. let's learn from him.
An Uber-articulate man. TedX is the bomb!!
Thank you from Western Maine. ♡

Outstanding, thank you for sharing your story.
What the world is like is always in the beholders of the eyes. An great example of relativity
