This video is brilliant. The best I've found on vocal effects. The demos you did were spot on showing the difference betweenn effects on and off. I really learned loads. thank you for making it.
This is one of the best narrative video of definition and demonstration I have seen. Executed with a knowledgable well presented professional examples of all individual aspects of the product in detail delivered with a unique contemporary personality.....Excellent!!
This video is a gem with all the advice for live singing. The song examples couldnt be more apt. You could tell hes a real pro. I've learnt more from watching this than other pedal reviews. Cheers
Never seen such precise and practical video on effect for live performance. Your knowledge is so deep and you are an excellent singer too. Thanks buddy! Wish you best in life
Thank you and the viewer that asked for this tutorial. You have a great teaching temprament, also a very cool voice, i look forward to watching more from your channel.
A great educational video - very informative. I must say, from your appearance, the last thing I was expecting was A-Ha. But all of the vocal examples were well-chosen and excellently performed. You nailed it! 🙂
Hey man, thank you sooooo much for doing this vid, just what I was after. Recently got myself a vocal pedal so Im looking forward to trying it out with our set list. Some really good advice here, great voice too. Thanks again.
Geez! Wow! This video just turned up on my feed. So I had a listen. I’m a bassist who’s spent a considerable amount of time relearning guitar. I’m an older guy now & my beautiful kids are good & gone, so now I want to spend the rest of my life in music. I’ve arrived at the fact once again that I’m going to have to do some singing if I’m to go solo for now. I prefer band. I can stay in tune ok but I’m not a strong singer. I’ve just been a backing vocalists at jams. I pulled my VL3X out of the closet not long ago & I was going hmmm okay what can I do. I started a search. A few days later I found this simple, down to earth & very inspirational video lesson of yours. It’s just totally changed my approach. Thank you soo much🙏You have no idea what that just did for me….hahahaha honestly! Keep up the good work sir! This world is definitely in need of replenishing. Time for some good fresh and tasty Vibes again. Screw cancel culture!
Ah thank you for the message dude, really glad its been of help and wish you much success in this next stage of your life. Its a good way to spend the rest of your days 😃😃💪🏼🎸🎤
Your explanation of the compressor was the best I have heard. You made the concept completely understandable and with the addition of your performance, one can hear how the compressor works. Bravo!
I am now just seeing this video. And by far you showed and performed them the best. I have watched alot vocal videos from professional vocal coaches and sound engineers but you are very good teacher.
Finally a succinct explanation of sound effects. No ego, just a fun relaxed and educational session, thank you! I could do with your services now to help me decide what to use on each song 😂😂
Ah thank you for the message, really means a lot :) its really tricky when it comes to using different effects for different songs. I find a good thing to keep in mind is keeping a good core sound, then adding in effects when you need it. Other wise sonically, if the voice changes too much during a live performance it kinda throws peoples ears off. I tend to have a base effect with a bit of reverb as my standard, then bring in some extra verb for power ballads, maybe harmonies when i need it and some doubling and delays in certain phrases for effect. Thats just my way of doing things, but the world would be boring if we all did things the same lol
@@Vonbeardingham thank you for taking the time to reply. Do you think the pedal you are using is suitable for a novice (not a novice singer but a novice at anything sound tech related)? I have looked at the Boss VE 20 but I have no idea what I am looking at! Lastly (sorry!), is the ear monitor the equivalent to me having my own amp so I can hear myself? if so, any recommendation? Thanks again
ok pedal wise, I'm not too familiar with the boss range, I'm a tc-helicon man myself and for someone who's starting out with singing tech i really rate the voicelive play. Its a small unit, lots of patches and simple but useful effects to use. In-ear monitoring systems mean that you get to hear yourself much clearer as the ear-buds block out more of the sound of the band onstage. It means you dont have to have a monitor onstage, you dont have to try and be heard over the rest of the band and you can put in as little or as much of other musicians as you like if they are mic'd up into your earphone mix. it basically means you can tailor the sound to sing too exactly how you like it. Its a life and voice saver for any singer :)
This is really a superior video. First, you are a very talented singer so that is a lot of fun. But just as importantly, your use of compare / contrast examples is perfect for illustrating your points. Great stuff! Good luck to you building your channel. You're bringing real value to the internet.
thank you so much for this video! I'm so happy to find out about the existence of harmony pedals, and I didn't realise how effective compression can be
I really needed this. I’m a singer/songwriter and I’m wanting to get involved with this and I find people use these terms so passively but I don’t understand any of this so to hear it elucidated as well as having examples is greatly appreciated. The haze became clear.
Found a vocal coach that actually sounds amazing and can explain things like a normal person and not like a wizard ahahah❤ P.s. You have a very good voice tone, kudos
Great tips, I'll definitely keep them in mind for my next gig. Also much respect for actually taking the time to reply to comments on here. You are a saint.
What a great demonstration, man! Thank you so much for the video! You're truly an entertainment man! The funniest one around. Keep it up, sir. Great help!
I use a Boss VE-500 live, and for harmonies you can set it to pick a specific note based on whatever specific note you are singing. So when we do some Earth, Wind, and Fire stuff with super high falsetto stuff, I tell the pedal that if I'm singing D, it's adding F# and A. If I'm singing C#, it's adding E and G#, etc. The initial setup is laborious, but it helps avoid unexpected bad harmonies from the pedal
Being able to customise your harmonies like that is a godsend! Have you got any live vids of you using it for the earth wind and fire stuff? Be great to hear how good it sounds 👍🏼
@@Vonbeardingham it used to be that onstage doing "September," I'd sing the main part on the "bah dee ah" (C# D C#), and on the second and third choruses, my brother -- our drummer -- would add the harmony above it, then I saved his voice by having the pedal do the higher part so he could double me. I don't have any videos on hand with it, but we're playing a couple of weddings this weekend, so I can likely snag a video
Just started exploring this topic and I'm glad I came upon this video first thing. Awesome introduction on vocal effects, and very well presented. Obviously, a video about audio needs to have good audio itself in order to demonstrate the differences, and yours nailed it. And for a bonus, excellent entertainment value; you had me lol multiple times. Thanks for the lesson man.
Thank you for this video. I just started singing some backups and wanted to learn about live effects to clean up my voice a little. Now I have a much better understanding of the types of effects would work best for my needs. This was extremely helpful.
