This Card still holds up well In 2021. Maybe not so much at 4K as it is more rough with that Resolution in modern games but In many games It can still do 1440P Ultra 60FPS just fine.
Consider how anti-aliasing is so demolishing to fps as 4k. Whenever I run games at 4k I always switch it off completely, as it's a total waste of GPU bandwidth as I see.
William Fenton the high resolution takes care of most of the aliasing from what Ive seen. in a few games its actually easier on performance to just supersample instead of using antialiasing solutions
@Alvin depends on the game though. I've played a few games where there's very little difference in performance between low and ultra shadows. Would never have guess but that's why it's important to do benchmarking.
I love digital foundry. Easily digested 11 minutes of the most interesting parts of this beast of a card. No more, not less. And they inevitably go into more technical detail in their write ups, should the viewer want more info. Good show.
Dunno why people laugh, I used to play UT @ 240p online with a 56k modem. I got about 25fps. Got about 1 fps at 800x600 - was hard to be competitive like that... I weirdly miss my 233mhz machine with 32mb of RAM and 3mb onboard VC
A message from the future. In six years time you will be able to buy devices from 120€ to 750€ that will perform the same, their names are: 1080Ti, 2070, 2070S, 3060, Vega VII, 5700 XT, 6600 XT, 6650 XT, 6700, 7600, RTX A2000 6/12GB, ARC A750/A770/A770 16GB..rtx 4060 as powerful as game consoles PS5/Xbox Series X or computers with Apple M1/M2 Max. They all will be called 1080p GPU and hundreds of reviewers, youtubers influencers and BSers... Will argue with you, no mater the facts.
OneTwoMark I think that will depend on AMD's cards. Hopefully Volta top chip will be on the standards of the next Titan so they can trickle down cut-down variants. Otherwise there's no telling what prices we might see
Yeah I'll wait for Volta too. I have a 4yo build with the Titan Black. Very happy with it and it will last me a while more but at most 1440p if I want any frames. Seems like Volta is the right time for an uppgrade for me.
Yeah, I can see that there are TONS of 1080Ti reviews out there. But none of them can match Wichard's elegance and the way of review that DF delivers. IMO, its much much better to show the framerate, and frametime at particular gaming situations, not some meaningless graph.
Ever since Horizon came out, PS4 fanboys are flooding PC, Switch and Xbox videos just trolling over and over. Yes, the game is good, but you guys show how awful fanboyism is. Sure, you will reply PC or Xbox fanboys are worse. Nope. Every video I see is you guys saying these things in swarms and blaming everything you don't own.
+Narata HZD is a good game but it's nothing special.Main story of the game is pretty lame , the background story was more intriguing.Physics in game was bad,Horrible lip syncing and many more problems.According to me game was 8.3 at most.
You seem quite insecure....Especially since it's funny that there is NO game on PC which can rival games like Uncharted 4 or Horizon on PS4 Pro. I am a PC/console gamer btw.
+Mustafa Sam It's not "Sony magic", it's optimization. Since every PS4Pro is EXACTLY the same, game devs can tweak their gameengines to perform the best possible way on the hardware of the PS4Pro.
@Whiting1289 Great games...if pretty old for the most part...the reason why I game on both platforms. It's just stupid to disrespect consoles and especially console gamers. It's immature and ignorant.
Amazing, 4k at 60fps is sweet and now there's a definitive go-to card for it. I already have a 1080, but perhaps SLI will become viable now that the successor entered the scene.
Great Video! You guys should do a video on the current state of SLI/CROSSFIRE, is it a reliable solution? Is it worth investing on a multi GPU gaming PC? Also, how well does performance scale from using two GPUs to using three or even four GPUs? It would be great if you guys did that analysis, i'm an SLI user and i have noticed that fewer games support or perform well on multi GPU now.
Fábio Borges sli is great solution, granted some game's don't use it but a vast majority do implement it at launch. Sad news tho nvidia has dropped 3 and 4 way sli.
I have Titan X Pascal SLI (two cards) and in my experience it's a very good and reliable solution and the only way to game at 4K resolution 60 FPS with all details maxed out in every game at the moment. One Titan XP or 1080 Ti just won't cut it. I'd say maybe like 90% of new games support SLI quite well and if you wait a few months after launch the support will just get better (like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which didn't support SLI at launch but now works perfectly). There's only a few modern games that don't support SLI, mostly Microsoft's Windows 10 store games like Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3 and Quantum Break. Oh, and Titanfall 2 from EA, but that game runs perfectly with just one Titan X Pascal.
My 1060 oc'd with a 8350 does incredibly well on ultra settings in pretty much every game. the only game out there is dues ex that i just cant max out.
its pretty interesting to think that at 1080p the cpu cant handle the frames, just another indication of how intel has not really been pushing the bar that high, just milking consumers with tiny incremental updates
that's the issue. It's about the optimisation. I wouldn't worry in GTA V or BF games, but in most games only 1-2 cores are used, which is annoying for people like me.
Subi_fan to them that statement is true because they only think about 60FPS. Bottlenecking is clearly happening but you have to hit 140+ FPS to see it happen.
Well it kind of is. 720p, no matter the AA, it was impossible to get a clean image. 1080p still needs AA badly but it is possible to get a clean image. 4k gets the cleanest image by far, and no AA needed. 4k is the new standard. My Potato PC can't handle it either though lol at least not at 60 fps, and definitely not most games. I did test Battlefront on Ultra 4k and shit my pants. Surprisingly around 45 fps too. Then I tried Crysis 3 on very high settings at 4k and really shit my pants. Barely 30 fps though
Wrong. *2K is NOT 1440p* 2K = 2048 x whatever | or with some rounding people refer to 1920x1080 as 2K 1440p is 2560x1440 which would be closer to "2.5K" I.. suppose...
Tristan Zipp By that logic it should be called 2.5K. I just saw so many people calling 1440p "2K" that I thought it was common use, even tho it wasn't exactly correct. Nevermind, thanks for clarifying.
Great comparison between 4K and 1080p results. Really drives home how the 1080ti is very capable of 4K gaming in 2017 and definitely different to what every other TH-camr is uploading. Great work!
Travis Law Funnily enough I only see xbox fanboys crying everywhere about pc is crap and useless. Oh yeah and pc is worthless and power doesnt matter. Dont try to sugarcoat it...
This just makes me happy that I didn't run out and buy a Titan XP and decided to wait to build my new computer rig. Now I just need more info on the Ryzen chips to see if they can rival the top tier Intel chips for less money in various real world tests (and most especially gaming as you pointed out in your video here there were several titles that were actually hitting the CPU limit and not the GPU).
Have you seen Ryzen gaming performance? It's even worse. Btw, why are you wishing bad things to happen? Can never understand such blind fanboys as you...
Oh, thanks, that could be the meaning of his comment. Still think mentioning Ryzen is out of place though, since Intel has many CPUs with more than 4 cores. Ryzen only brings price improvements (and a big potential for more competition technology wise, though that's not yet a guarantee, as i think chip makers are fundamentally against physics wall.)
WhiteSnowGentelman any CPU is going to bottleneck this card at 1080p. There's simply too many frames to push at once. The 6700K won't bottleneck it at 4K or 1440p 144hz.
nazart i made the switch. what games should i get? I've bought most recent titles up til For Honor already on my pro. So far I have The Forest, Super Hot, L4D2, Witcher2 (games are extremely cheaper on PC thats for sure) i got all these for a total of like 20$. What games should i buy that aren't in Early Access?
Yes. Being very careful use a Nintendo brand hammer (Check Amazon) to open the Switch and clip card onto connectors. Plug in and download new BIOS via WIFI.
Because 144hz ultra witcher 3 feel so good that's why PC gamers always talk about numbers. Honestly though the fact that you have 5 ps4 pros and are basically bragging about it is fucking stupid.
all I'm seeing is angry PC gamers like you constantly bringing up console gamers. I haven't seen a single console gamer talking shit on here yet. You need to fuckin grow up man. If you really were a gamer you'd own a PC and a console, but instead you just talk shit about console because it makes you feel better about not owning one.
Easier to optimise for console, we've all heard it before, but despite the inferior optimisation, this will still outperform a console by a monumental margin
I just got a GTX 1060 and I love it. Can only imagine having a beast like a 1080 ti. Nvidia is kicking ass lately. AMD is doing better than ever too but the king is still the king
great stuff Richard. i figured you'd make a Ryzen review but i'm sure you're waiting for bios revisions and windows optimizations (hopefully) to do a proper / thorough review. you guys are in my top 3 goto pc hardware review utube channels. great work. you save consumers a lot of time and money with what you do. ty
I like How Digital Foundry Keep Old Demanding games Like AC Unity also Please add Metro 2033 and Last Light, Crysis 1 please make it in the next 4K gameplay and benchmarks Video
May i suggest turning anti aliasing off? 4k has a extremely high pixel count compared to the smaller compressed resolutions. I would love to see what number it gets with anti aliasing turned off. Though this card must be a absolute monster to run without the help of a second card in SLI, on some forms of anti aliasing in these demanding titles!
The 11GB makes perfect sense. It's a (slightly) further cut down GP-102, and one of the things they cut was a memory controller. In the past when they did this they kept the full amount of vram and just had a small amount of it running slightly slower than the rest (see the 660 and 970), but AMD fanboys lost their shit and sued them (while perpetuating the lie that the 970 only had 3.5GB) last time they did that, so that's why now they are just cutting the amount of vram instead. Well done, guys, we did it.
Console gamer here looking to build his first gaming PC, any tips and suggestions are welcome on how to start and sources to use. Thanks! (Budget not an issue, but I'm interested in most bang for the buck.)
I read that there is an issue between Pascal and GSync. I bought a GTX1080 and there was a noticeable amount of stutter and I read that 1080ti owners have this problem too. It would be very interesting if Digital Foundry would do an investigation like Kepler vs Pascal on GSync
The Wichard 3 : Wild Hunt
Its so well optimized for 1080p gaming, incredible. Even the Ps4 version is excellent, honestly.
This card is still has relevant performance today, at PS5 levels without RT and DLSS
This Card still holds up well In 2021. Maybe not so much at 4K as it is more rough with that Resolution in modern games but In many games It can still do 1440P Ultra 60FPS just fine.

AA and Shadows are always the first thing you tune down coz they make little difference in 4K anyway.

True bro. You really don't need it at all at 4k

I really don't know how 1GB change anything aspecially in games which barely use half of this VRAM

a bit more than 4 years out of that setup.

Ryzen 7 is awesome for its purpose of editing and processing videos. Ryzen 5 for gaming
Coming later this month or early next
Welcome back Richard!
WHERE ARE THE FUCKING RYZEN'S BENCHMARKS
hey geoff
watch end of video
He said at the end they're coming.
Linus has a comparison against intel that uses the 1080ti.
As does the i7 6900k so your point?
I'm going to wait til Volta. 1070 is still going strong!
Does the nintendo switch have 4k mode? can i change switch graphics cards with 4k?
Trash .Boat lol
can i change switch graphics cards with 4k?
What does that even mean?
TheKims you can tape a 1080 ti on the dock to play at 4k 60 fps on switch, stop spreading misinformation
Trash .Boat yes.
Yes. Being very careful use a Nintendo brand hammer (Check Amazon) to open the Switch and clip card onto connectors. Plug in and download new BIOS via WIFI.
Finally, another gpu benchmark! It's been ages.
Let me just sell my 5 PS4 Pros so I can get a gaming PC with a 1080ti. Can't wait to boast about numbers rather than actually playing games.
No need, RX 470 beats PS4 Pro
Tommy G I have over 400 games on Steam. How many do you have on ps4 pro?
Because 144hz ultra witcher 3 feel so good that's why PC gamers always talk about numbers. Honestly though the fact that you have 5 ps4 pros and are basically bragging about it is fucking stupid.
FoGIrony I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.
5×400= 2,000
I think with selling 4 ps4 pros is enough
i wil be so happy to see if you benchmark this card with ryzen 1800x vs i7 7700k on 4K resolution..
Still no info on ryzen bencharks? :(
Hooray he's back. Thought something happened to ya Richard.
Great PC focused content DF. Ignore the angry PS4 "gamers".
wait for it!..
2/10
+Possessed Gamer I hacked his account.
all I'm seeing is angry PC gamers like you constantly bringing up console gamers. I haven't seen a single console gamer talking shit on here yet.
You need to fuckin grow up man. If you really were a gamer you'd own a PC and a console, but instead you just talk shit about console because it makes you feel better about not owning one.
Hey, you're the fake Prince Dizzy!
Welcome back RIchard!
Yet no developers get use of this like sony's devs do with ps4 hardware. For example, Horizon, un4 etc
Easier to optimise for console, we've all heard it before, but despite the inferior optimisation, this will still outperform a console by a monumental margin
dude, different hardware for different audiences
Soevilly ever thought why they use dynamic resolution and are locked at 30
With poor textures filtering
And often drop frames
Soevilly it's still gonna outperform consoles.
@rohit none of Sony's dev's use dynamic resolution, or frame drops and certainly not Horizon or Uncharted 4. Nice job showing your ignorance dumbass
6:02 Please keep this notification like Current FPS - Average FPS in newer videos because we want to know
Welcome back Richard.
I just got a GTX 1060 and I love it. Can only imagine having a beast like a 1080 ti. Nvidia is kicking ass lately. AMD is doing better than ever too but the king is still the king
great stuff Richard. i figured you'd make a Ryzen review but i'm sure you're waiting for bios revisions and windows optimizations (hopefully) to do a proper / thorough review. you guys are in my top 3 goto pc hardware review utube channels. great work. you save consumers a lot of time and money with what you do. ty
Where is the Ryzen benchmarks ???
Also, nice to see Witchard back!
I like how the title says the 1080Ti is the best for 4K 60fps... When really, it's the best for EVERYTHING
Looking forward to your ryzen review. There's something about Richards review shows serious integrity.
I like How Digital Foundry Keep Old Demanding games Like AC Unity also Please add Metro 2033 and Last Light, Crysis 1 please make it in the next 4K gameplay and benchmarks Video
Love your reviews all the time.
Cant wait for the custom OC cards 😁👀
I wish developers would start giving us the option for checkerboard rendering on PC also.
Can't wait for Ryzen videos. Keep up the good work, DF👍
Best part of video "I will be reviewing Ryzen." Should be fun.
I've been waiting for this so hard
Yes, Richard at last. We missed you :D
I might get one around christmas or just wait for the next line to upgrade my 980ti. Such a beast though.
Super sampling on a 1080p monitor is gonna be worth it, if you don't want to upgrade your GPU and 1080p monitor.
MSAA is the GOAT still need a 1080ti to run it (i have one :^] )
Admit it, your YT feed is full of 1080ti benchmarks, and you're going to watch them all
Console gamer here looking to build his first gaming PC, any tips and suggestions are welcome on how to start and sources to use.
