They always tell the good AND the bad feautes of a given product. Nobody said that PSVR is better or even equal to Vive. Why is it so damn hard to accept that this is a great value VR headset (as consoles generally are great value boxes for the not-so-rich gamer)?
well oculus is already supported on the current xbox so there's nothing to suggest that it won't be supported on the Scorpio too. the experience will probably be much better and games will be much better too. I think psvr came out way too early and probably only a few percent of the userbase will buy one. it would have been more beneficial to release it at a time when vr products (eg games) start booming which looks to be 2017/2018

I'm an Xbox gamer and I think VR is indeed a gimmick just like the Kinect. It will be fun for every now and then but it will not be a product I would use every day to play videogames on, even when it comes to Xbox Scorpio next year. It just doesn't look like an amazing experience yet. Maybe some day but I doubt it will take a place in the AAA games coming as normal games.

Been playing my friends PS VR for the last month. I have fallen in love with VR. This def. Feels like a first generation thing. My two favorite games are Astrobot Rescue mission and Moss. I like Skyrim VR but the resolution is rather low, and way too blurry, and too many jaggies. I never felt any kind of motion sickness. Tetris Effect is also a lot of fun

To start out, on value? Yes. Just hoping Sony supports it better than they have previous ventures. Vive is great visually but just like PSVR, full on game experiences are lacking but hey this is just the beginning.

***** Its a "good" vr headset but its hard to justify calling it the best with any objectively. The ergonomic design and strong launch lineup are the best things it has going for it. Sony has a strong history of dropping developer support for products that don't catch on immediately (see the Vita) and the post launch line up for the PS VR is as weak as the pc headsets. The other major contentious issue with the PS VR is the tracking of the headset that relies on the same imprecise unreliable teach as the PS Move. We will know alot more once the system gets some long term plays testing and we see the holiday sales numbers.
1 year later. You can now get a PSVR Headset for $199 and it’s absolutely incredible. Resident Evil 7, Skyrim, Statik, Rush of Blood, Superhot, Rez Infinite, Thumper, Polybius, Rec Room, etc... It’s an awesome value with a ton of fun games,
PC headsets were designed in a hurry and it shows. Now that the positive reviews are coming for PSVR, most PC fanatics are dissing VR all together in the hopes that PSVR won't succeed.

I have the vive, and have also played the psvr on a pro model. In general the psvr did perform better, especially for the price. I can honestly say this is probably a much better, and inexpensive way to enjoy vr.
Pretty sure no VR system has "AAA" games just yet, just tech demos and very very short "full" games. Vive has better graphics...and that's about it. PSVR headset is more comfortable, actually has exclusives that make at the very least a minimal difference cause these things so far are for games. No need to be upset cause you payed 800+ for a promise of a better future. People can pay 500 for similar results and a better library(at least so far). Vive fanboys smh. Be a fan of video games as a hobby, picking sides makes you look like a fool cause there isn't a perfect PC or system yet. a psvr and ps4 can be had for $400 total with the right sales (black friday etc), while the oculus rift is $400 alone, and requires a pc thats at least around $500, I'm coming from an oculus rift and a nice pc to one of these and it's honestly not a huge downgrade, I love the exclusive games and the streamlined ui/accessibility, Not to mention that you can buy those VR games as a boxed Physical Copy

Spoilers Vive already is 3rd generation 1st gen, Rift DK1, Gear VR, rotational tracking only 2nd gen, Rift DK2, other HMDs, positional tracking 3rd gen, Vive, Rift+Touch, roomscale + hand input Each iteration is HUGE difference, immediately noticeable and an entirely new beast to design for, so how is that *not* a generation leap?
Why do people keep saying RIP PC VR? Yeah, VR on PC may cost more but at the same time you're getting a better experience. Also there are VR headsets on the PC that are cheaper than PSVR (Deepoon VR $250) (Razer's OSVR $400 With controllers and camera included) What most people fail to realize is that PSVR is also compatible with PC along with all the other current HMDs. With Microsoft being Sony's main competitor, you should expect Xbox VR to be in the works.
Having a great time with the PSVR. Is it normal that the image looks a little blurry? It is probably because of the low resolution of the headset but wanted to make sure others are experiencing the same thing. When I read the PS menu text and all its completely clear and all though.
Vive owner here, just wanted to shout out that motion controls are absolutely necessary for good VR. What's gimmicky on a flat screen becomes essential in VR space. The ability to reach out and grab or manipulate and object is one of the most natural things to do, and not having that capability, or worse yet having your character move in a way that's not mirroring your own will break immersion super quick. Which is all to say, if you don't have a move controller yet but want VR add that in to your budget right off the bat. All in all super excited for this launch and hope it goes well, because success in VR isn't tied to anyone manufacter, but to having good software.Having a large install base will entice quality devs to jump in the VR pool!

Extremely important point: This 'nausea' doesn't affect everyone, and for those it does it isn't the same across the board. Most people are probably fine on most games. Though some people will have a terrible time. If you don't get sick on boats and ferries I think you'll be fine. I wish people wouldn't make out that it'll be a problem for everyone to some degree. I'd argue it's more like 50% people totally fine, 35% people a bit iffy on a couple of games, 15% of people really having problems and not liking it.

3 subpixels per pixel compared to 2 on the vive or oculus. That's why there's no screen door effect, calling it under specced compared to the oculus at least isn't completely true
INSERT COIN TO CONTINUE GAME OVER 1080p vs 1200p isn't a huge issue again when the Oculus only has 2 sub pixels per pixel, so it actually has more of a screen-door effect than the PSVR

The ps4 itself is the bottleneck but the headset resolution isn't an issue when it has less of a screen-door effect than either Oculus or the Vive due to having greater sub pixel density and it's so much more comfortable than the Rift
+Sandy Wich Except pixels SHOULD have 3 subpixels.... the Vive and Oculus are also pulling the cheaty "120 Hz" kind of crap by including "higher res" displays with only 2 subpixels. PSVR: 1920*1080*3 = 6,220,800 subpixels / 3 = 2,073,600 full pixels Oculus: 2160*1200*2 = 5,184,000 subpixels / 3 = 1,728,000 full pixels' worth of subpixels (*cough*900p*cough*) The PSVR headset itself is of respectable quality. Obviously PC will be able to provide a more robust VR experience overall, but that's entirely due to the computational power of the system and not the headsets available.

Hands up who came here after PSVR2 unveil? I tried PSVR 1 when they travelled round the UK where you could book and go and try it out. I thought it was cack, and never bothered getting one, the screen was abysmal. Way too low res for something so close to your eyes, a bit like putting your face right against your tv, terrible and pixelly everywhere you looked. Hyped for PSVR 2 though, what the first one should of been even though the PS4 wouldn't of been able to run it.

Would there be anyway of you guys testing PSVR games actual frame-rate? Not the frame-rate that it's interpolated to, but the frame-rate the game is running at before it hits the processor box.
It's called motion sickness, a lot of people have, and you can consider yourself lucky if you don't have it. When your eyes say "You're moving" buy your body says "No I'm standing still" that's when you get motion sickness. When two senses send conflicting signals to your brain.

October should be a good month for VR . I finally got my Oculus Rift last week . I stayed up till 5am last night getting dolphin emulator working in VR .:-0 Mario 64 in VR is fucking amazing! .Mario sunshine ,mario kart ,mario galaxy ,Legend of Zelda windwaker .They all work really well and I was blown away to be able to step inside these old games in VR . The night before that I was sitting on the moon watching apollo 13 . Project cars is insane in VR too 'I also sat in a virtual cinema with three random people from different parts of the world and we all watched netflix together ,being able to see there avatars and speak to them was mindblowing and hillarious . I cant wait until more headsets get into peoples hands because WOW VR is pretty awesome.

You should really go try it out at Best Buy or Gamestop, play Eve Valkyrie. There are several high quality games coming out for it. Resident Evil 7 being just ONE of them. In total, there will be 50 titles released for it by the end of the year.
It's an interesting factor that the aliasing and resolution are based on the PS4 and game design factors moreso than the limited pixel density of the display.

I tried it at an event, and the tracking on the move controllers was very jittery. I'm hoping it was because the camera was clearly way too close, but it does seem to be an issue in general.

PS4 Pro could be rendering higher than 1080 resulting in super sampling (this is what I assumed he meant) or perhaps neither hits 1080 and they both use upscaling techniques. Either way I think he only said PS4 Pro renders higher, no word on native resolution.

Looks great. Worked pretty well when I tried it, but having it in my living room would give a comprehensive feel. I'm lucky that I don't get sick no matter how intense the games get, whether on PSVR, Rift, or even Gear VR.
It's consumer friendly VR and 4K, it's extremely cheap and manages to outdo other things at that price point. You can't buy a PC for $400 and expect it to run a game like The Last of Us at 4K, even at 30FPS like PS4 Pro is doing. You wouldn't be able to run VR like this on a $300 PC either. Their offerings are EXTREMELY good for the price points. If you want "real VR" and "real 4K" go spend $1,000+ on a PC and $800 on a Vive, along with dedicating a room to it.
Wrong, AMD showed us that you can do medium - high VR on a $400-$500 PC. And the Vive is just the best quality. But psvr is good for ppl who dont care about eye candy / good quality and just want too try it out. But the headset looks very good and comfy though.

It's more like a gimmick and feels like it will die out just like the Kinect, the ps move controllers etc. people will say they are disappointed by VR because the Headset with the most buyers (which I think this one will be) is poorly executed. You don't get immersed. Everything works but it doesn't feel like you are actually there which is the main goal in VR IMO. Aliasing for me is a immersion breaker. I would rather have worse textures. Imagine someone giving you hard bread with tomato juice on it saying its a pizza. You obviously don't like it and think "well maybe pizza isn't that good as people say" without you having even tried real pizza.

Is the lower resolution something they do to mimic the human field of vision? Our vision is typically only good in the centre but since we can move our eyes as well as our heads we often don't realise the lack of clarity and blind spots we have right in our everyday vision. I'd guess this could be a problem though unless the headset features eye tracking to maintain a clear image when your eyes move.

***** Its a "good" vr headset but its hard to justify calling it the best with any objectively. The ergonomic design and strong launch lineup are the best things it has going for it. Sony has a strong history of dropping developer support for products that don't catch on immediately (see the Vita) and the post launch line up for the PS VR is as weak as the pc headsets. The other major contentious issue with the PS VR is the tracking of the headset that relies on the same imprecise unreliable teach as the PS Move. We will know alot more once the system gets some long term plays testing and we see the holiday sales numbers.
Wow, the headset itself looks sleek and comfortable. I'm also impressed by the performance. I'll stick with my Vive, but well done sony!
1 year later. You can now get a PSVR Headset for $199 and it’s absolutely incredible. Resident Evil 7, Skyrim, Statik, Rush of Blood, Superhot, Rez Infinite, Thumper, Polybius, Rec Room, etc... It’s an awesome value with a ton of fun games,
PC headsets were designed in a hurry and it shows. Now that the positive reviews are coming for PSVR, most PC fanatics are dissing VR all together in the hopes that PSVR won't succeed.

What this does seem like is a great value for money and great VR system for console-only owners.
Even if the headsets were the equally good (they aren't), the PS4 isn't fast enough to run VR games anywhere near the graphical fidelity of a PC.
I have the vive, and have also played the psvr on a pro model. In general the psvr did perform better, especially for the price. I can honestly say this is probably a much better, and inexpensive way to enjoy vr.
It's library is lacking, but I have no intention of getting one until the pro releases. Hopefully, it has a few more titles by then.
I seem to remember a lack of titles on oculus and vive upon their releases too.
Pretty sure no VR system has "AAA" games just yet, just tech demos and very very short "full" games. Vive has better graphics...and that's about it. PSVR headset is more comfortable, actually has exclusives that make at the very least a minimal difference cause these things so far are for games. No need to be upset cause you payed 800+ for a promise of a better future. People can pay 500 for similar results and a better library(at least so far). Vive fanboys smh. Be a fan of video games as a hobby, picking sides makes you look like a fool cause there isn't a perfect PC or system yet. Aligning yourself to one console for any reason other than "I can't afford everything" makes you a fanboy casual cause if you could afford everything, you should play everything you can, that is a hardcore gamer. A fan of all games, regardless of platform. I am getting a Vive and a PSVR as soon as they have games worth a damn.
a psvr and ps4 can be had for $400 total with the right sales (black friday etc), while the oculus rift is $400 alone, and requires a pc thats at least around $500, I'm coming from an oculus rift and a nice pc to one of these and it's honestly not a huge downgrade, I love the exclusive games and the streamlined ui/accessibility, Not to mention that you can buy those VR games as a boxed Physical Copy

Why do people keep saying RIP PC VR? Yeah, VR on PC may cost more but at the same time you're getting a better experience. Also there are VR headsets on the PC that are cheaper than PSVR (Deepoon VR $250) (Razer's OSVR $400 With controllers and camera included) What most people fail to realize is that PSVR is also compatible with PC along with all the other current HMDs. With Microsoft being Sony's main competitor, you should expect Xbox VR to be in the works.

Having a great time with the PSVR. Is it normal that the image looks a little blurry? It is probably because of the low resolution of the headset but wanted to make sure others are experiencing the same thing. When I read the PS menu text and all its completely clear and all though.

Vive owner here, just wanted to shout out that motion controls are absolutely necessary for good VR. What's gimmicky on a flat screen becomes essential in VR space. The ability to reach out and grab or manipulate and object is one of the most natural things to do, and not having that capability, or worse yet having your character move in a way that's not mirroring your own will break immersion super quick. Which is all to say, if you don't have a move controller yet but want VR add that in to your budget right off the bat.
All in all super excited for this launch and hope it goes well, because success in VR isn't tied to anyone manufacter, but to having good software.Having a large install base will entice quality devs to jump in the VR pool!

Most people are probably fine on most games. Though some people will have a terrible time.
If you don't get sick on boats and ferries I think you'll be fine.
I wish people wouldn't make out that it'll be a problem for everyone to some degree. I'd argue it's more like 50% people totally fine, 35% people a bit iffy on a couple of games, 15% of people really having problems and not liking it.

3 subpixels per pixel compared to 2 on the vive or oculus. That's why there's no screen door effect, calling it under specced compared to the oculus at least isn't completely true
INSERT COIN TO CONTINUE GAME OVER 1080p vs 1200p isn't a huge issue again when the Oculus only has 2 sub pixels per pixel, so it actually has more of a screen-door effect than the PSVR

The ps4 itself is the bottleneck but the headset resolution isn't an issue when it has less of a screen-door effect than either Oculus or the Vive due to having greater sub pixel density and it's so much more comfortable than the Rift

PSVR: 1920*1080*3 = 6,220,800 subpixels / 3 = 2,073,600 full pixels
Oculus: 2160*1200*2 = 5,184,000 subpixels / 3 = 1,728,000 full pixels' worth of subpixels (*cough*900p*cough*)
The PSVR headset itself is of respectable quality. Obviously PC will be able to provide a more robust VR experience overall, but that's entirely due to the computational power of the system and not the headsets available.

Hands up who came here after PSVR2 unveil? I tried PSVR 1 when they travelled round the UK where you could book and go and try it out. I thought it was cack, and never bothered getting one, the screen was abysmal. Way too low res for something so close to your eyes, a bit like putting your face right against your tv, terrible and pixelly everywhere you looked.
Hyped for PSVR 2 though, what the first one should of been even though the PS4 wouldn't of been able to run it.

It's called motion sickness, a lot of people have, and you can consider yourself lucky if you don't have it. When your eyes say "You're moving" buy your body says "No I'm standing still" that's when you get motion sickness. When two senses send conflicting signals to your brain.

October should be a good month for VR . I finally got my Oculus Rift last week . I stayed up till 5am last night getting dolphin emulator working in VR .:-0 Mario 64 in VR is fucking amazing! .Mario sunshine ,mario kart ,mario galaxy ,Legend of Zelda windwaker .They all work really well and I was blown away to be able to step inside these old games in VR . The night before that I was sitting on the moon watching apollo 13 . Project cars is insane in VR too 'I also sat in a virtual cinema with three random people from different parts of the world and we all watched netflix together ,being able to see there avatars and speak to them was mindblowing and hillarious . I cant wait until more headsets get into peoples hands because WOW VR is pretty awesome.

You should really go try it out at Best Buy or Gamestop, play Eve Valkyrie. There are several high quality games coming out for it. Resident Evil 7 being just ONE of them. In total, there will be 50 titles released for it by the end of the year.

It's an interesting factor that the aliasing and resolution are based on the PS4 and game design factors moreso than the limited pixel density of the display.

I tried it at an event, and the tracking on the move controllers was very jittery. I'm hoping it was because the camera was clearly way too close, but it does seem to be an issue in general.

PS4 Pro could be rendering higher than 1080 resulting in super sampling (this is what I assumed he meant) or perhaps neither hits 1080 and they both use upscaling techniques.
Either way I think he only said PS4 Pro renders higher, no word on native resolution.

Looks great. Worked pretty well when I tried it, but having it in my living room would give a comprehensive feel. I'm lucky that I don't get sick no matter how intense the games get, whether on PSVR, Rift, or even Gear VR.
In conclusion: this is as much VR as PS4 Pro is 4K

It's consumer friendly VR and 4K, it's extremely cheap and manages to outdo other things at that price point. You can't buy a PC for $400 and expect it to run a game like The Last of Us at 4K, even at 30FPS like PS4 Pro is doing. You wouldn't be able to run VR like this on a $300 PC either. Their offerings are EXTREMELY good for the price points. If you want "real VR" and "real 4K" go spend $1,000+ on a PC and $800 on a Vive, along with dedicating a room to it.

It's more like a gimmick and feels like it will die out just like the Kinect, the ps move controllers etc. people will say they are disappointed by VR because the Headset with the most buyers (which I think this one will be) is poorly executed. You don't get immersed. Everything works but it doesn't feel like you are actually there which is the main goal in VR IMO. Aliasing for me is a immersion breaker. I would rather have worse textures.

Is the lower resolution something they do to mimic the human field of vision? Our vision is typically only good in the centre but since we can move our eyes as well as our heads we often don't realise the lack of clarity and blind spots we have right in our everyday vision. I'd guess this could be a problem though unless the headset features eye tracking to maintain a clear image when your eyes move.
