The technology of Insight is fundamentally similar to what the current Civic Hybrid has. The second generation of this vehicle boasts of a 4.8L/100 km fuel consumption. Compared to what Toyota Prius offers, these are slightly better. Meanwhile, it is only marginally inferior to what the first-generation Insight could deliver.
What’s interesting about the second-generation Insight is the compact electric motor which is strategically placed between the vehicle’s gearless CVT transmission and internal combustion engine. The 1.3-liter engine and 10-kilowatt electric motor can generate around 123 lb-ft of torque and 98 horsepower.
The engine of Insight also features Honda’s famed i-VTEC variable valve technology which was almost identical to what the Civic Hybrid offers. Honda claims that its 128-volts, nickel metal hydride battery pack can last for 15 years or 240,000 kilometers.
The style was a 5-door hatchback to compete with the rival Toyota Prius , while the 5 number size was smaller than the 3 number size Prius . [14]
It has a fastback-style hatchback body and a rear extra window in common with the first model, but it differs in that it has a 5-seater 5-door and no rear wheel skirt. In addition, in order to reduce costs, the original aluminum frame body was not adopted, and the weight was reduced to the utmost based on the existing components used for fitting . Approximately 10,000 parts are shared with other models of the company, and the first 20 nickel-metal hydride batteries (7.2 volt V x 20 = 144 V) and the second Civic Hybrid 11 (14.4 V x 11 =) As a result of improving the performance of 158 V), the efficiency has been thoroughly improved by reducing the number to 7 (14.4 V x 7 = 100 V). As a result, the price of the base model in the North American market is 20,000 dollars, and the base grade "G" in the Japanese market is 1.8 million yen (vehicle body price) while being audioless.
As with its predecessor, the IMA system is the basis of the power unit, and a fuel-saving monitor called the "ecological drive assist system" is standard equipment on all vehicles with the aim of improving practical fuel efficiency. In addition to the ECON mode [Note 2] that has already been adopted in the 4th generation Odyssey , the color of the ambient meter, which is the background color of the speedometer, changes by operating the accelerator and brake to make the fuel consumption status aware in real time. "Coaching function" that contributes to fuel-efficient driving, and fuel-efficient driving is scored in real time on the multi-information display screen in the meter, and the leaf icon informs the eco-driving degree of the day and the cumulative stage display up to that day. It has a "teaching function". This "teaching function" can be combined with the optional car navigation system to display detailed information.
The IMA system will be a new 1.3L LDA type . The transmission is CVT only. The power unit itself is the same as the second-generation Civic Hybrid , but the i-VTEC functions only as a variable cylinder system (VCM). The VCM suspends all cylinders, making it possible to run the motor in the same way as the Civic Hybrid. The motor output requires 10 kilowatts (kW) or more under the conditions of AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology --Partial Credit Zero Emission Vehicle) certified by the California Department of Air Resources . It has seven batteries and a voltage of 100.8 V.

I had a Honda insight 2009 ! I used it for more than 2 years and unwillingly sold it due to upgrading ! It gave me a good run over the years and hardly had any problems though i used it extensively. I wish i could afford to buy an insight once again !

I normally get around 19-20km/lr in city ride
23-25km/lr in the long distance ride

I would like to know following questions regarding honda insight from you, which is very importent to have a clear knowledge about it.
1. You said that honda insight can run as usual even the hybrid battery is run down. In this case Is it water pump, AC Compresure and oil pump with belt driven?
2. Is there a Alternator belt driven?
In your explanation you said that auxiliary 12V battery charge by the hybrid battery through inverter convertor. I have some confusion In this case how this car can run in failure in hybrid battery engine itself, Because auxiliary battery charge using hybrid battery.

If IMA fails and still can keep 144V HV battery can charge 12V battery and can work as an alternator
