    This is phenomenal, between the board game and the amiga game I was obsessed with this as a kid. Now I'm in my late thirties waiting for my mythic tier reprint. Thank you for this epic rendition of the tune.

    I heard a piano cover of the theme and it kinda brought me back to memory of the music for Doom II-Into Sandy's City, map 09, based on a slowed down version of Stone Temple Pilot's Sex Type Thing, was originally composed with a piano. They decided … A PIANO!? We can't use a PIANO in freakin' DOOM, because IT'S DOOM! So … they used a … harpsichord. And that got me thinking about this tune and what could be done to it.
    What if the tune starts off slow with a violin. A quiet world … I always hear a bit of a sad sound in such tunes, but others hear calm, so let's go with calm. Begin bringing in the sounds of military marching drums (that very snare-heavy sound) becoming much more noticable as the violin holds that last note of the … phrase is the right word? I don't know, I can HEAR what I'm thinking of but I never had the patience to learn much music theory. I guess I should play guitar then? ;)
    Maybe a bugle replaces the violin. Similarly low and slow, but definitely more militaristic. Strings to add tension, maybe mix in a little bit of the sounds of combat, clank of steel, maybe use an occasional clang of a blacksmith's hammer in place of a bell as a punctuation. The darkness has come, there's combat and pillaging, maybe a little fire…
    Third … stanza I guess(?), bring a bit more energy into the bugle along with maybe a kettle drum and change the tone of the strings from emphasizing tension to emphasizing the newly introduced heroic strength, the barbarian has come, a hero? Partway through, introduce you'd introduce more of that clanging and some actual bells for the dwarf. A flute introduces the elf and lighter strings the wizard, maybe with a flourish for Mentor to direct them. The battle is joined, let's kick that evil wizard's ass!
    Okay it's a little cliched, but HeroQuest isn't a complicated game, just a fun one.

    Can someone tell me who wrote the music to this song?

    • @gersiu2
      @gersiu2  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      g.co/kgs/zqhWwA Barry Leitch - its a old computer game music. This version was made by me based on his original score.

    • @henrikljungstrand2036

      @@gersiu2 Did Barry Leitch compose this tune originally for the Amiga, or for another computer?

    • @gersiu2
      @gersiu2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@henrikljungstrand2036 from what i know, he was working at Gremlins at that time and they developed versions simultaneously in-house. He was mainly a c64 composer at that time for them. From the research i did on the tune, it does sound like its more tuned to 8bit chips so i doubt it was composed on Amiga primarely and then ported. Amiga track doesnt really shine in particular also if you ask me.

    • @henrikljungstrand2036
      @henrikljungstrand2036 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gersiu2 Ah, which track is the best one in your opinion? I only ever played Heroquest on Amiga 1200.
      Played other games on Commodore 64, Commodore 128, Amiga 500 and 586/Pentium 1 PC though. Plus a little bit of SNES.

    • @gersiu2
      @gersiu2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@henrikljungstrand2036 i am bias to 8bit and particularly to the AY sound but thats because i grew up with it. putting that aside, the only thing not doing it for me in the amiga version are some instrument choices. you do feel like the AY chirps fit better somehow in some sections - i guess its a case of the limitation of the 8bit chips producing some interesting sound choices that are sometimes fitting the sound better than amiga sample choices and imho there are alot of tunes that sound better on the sid/ay than their amiga counterparts. i did make some mashups of how it would have sounded together - check it out th-cam.com/video/7sbB9W6uydw/w-d-xo.html

    FAIL.

    • @gersiu2
      @gersiu2  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its my vision of the song and i think it has a better flow this way in how a orchestra would play it. Why is it a fail not to follow the original structure, is beyond me. It cpuld sound better, i agree. So here is one better: do it yourself the way you like it :)

    • @hariseldon6392
      @hariseldon6392 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think your choice to do it this way poses the answer before the question and works just as well as the original composition. Just feels different. Totally no failure here.
