    Wow! Your very old clumping euphorbia are so amazing! And the hybrids that you created is impressive! Your greenhouse is like a botanical garden itself. 😉 If it is not too late, I hope you can tell us in the next video how you know if your euphorbia is a male or female. I’m very much interested to know. 😃 Looking forward to your Part 2.

      Thanks Robert!!! I have been collecting for many years. Be careful or soon you will have a hundred of them!!! Hahaha! Euphorbias and cactus are my favorites as succulents go. Euphorbias are just so facinating. They can be a large tree like my "abyssinica" or I can walk out the door of my greenhouse to find a sprawling annual weedy Euphorbia growing naturally in the park! Both same family, same genus, totally different in form. Or like a Christmas poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) AMAZING!! Enjoy collecting!!!! Thanks for watching and your great comment. Absolutely. Euphorbia is my favorite genus. Tell me about it, i recently bought some Euphorbias online in pristine condition and that will be my demise, however nothing beats going to a shop or market to see/feel them in person.

      @@ryebra How very true!!! And you can pick the exact plant you want!! But sometimes you just can't find what you want in the shop. Especially around here. We are very limited in choices. Unlike when I lived in California and could find almost anything! I'm lucky to find a different or rare one sometimes at a farmer's market, or off the wall shop where you wouldn't expect it. So I've been doing on line shopping to fill the need of a certain type.

Most of mine are in a greenhouse so I can keep them out of cold winter wet conditions. It only gets down to around 5 degrees c and no frost on the coast in Kahibah NSW. I have a nice mix of San Pedros, Bridgesii and some Aussie Trichocereus Yowie. One of my favorites is a big tall Trich Monstrose. They have all grown 6 inches in 2 months in the sun. Sorry Maria that I haven't got to answer your comment, sometimes the small ones are better. Cause they are easier to handle. Next season I will have to replenish the soil in my huge Euphorbia abyssinica! A very heavy plant at over 8 ft tall. This will require pulleys & rope to suspend the huge tree like plant while I replace the soil. And the pachypodium that's planted with it! Quite the job!! I see a video out of this!!! I was gifted a Lactea (sp?) & didn't realize it is a Euphorbia! I see the cylindrical part is planted rather deep. Are these planted deep so plant won't topple over? How can I get my Lactea to grow?? Thanks!😊

    • @morrisparkintheozarks6831
      @morrisparkintheozarks6831  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you mean the crested Euphorbia lactea, the cylindrical part is another Euphorbia that the crested lactea is grafted to. Repot every two years, feed during the growing season( tomato fertilizer) at half strength. And that should get it growing!! And don't blurry the stem to deep, as this could cause rot. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask!!! Thanks for watching Christina!!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks have a great day!!! Peace,Love,Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌹🌴🌷🌿🌸🌻🍀🌺

    BTW, I have degrafted my Lactea crested and they grow very well (even surprisingly fast) on their own roots.
    I'm not against keeping it grafted, just wanted to point this out.

    • @morrisparkintheozarks6831
      @morrisparkintheozarks6831  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can, do an experiment. Root a cutting of a regular lactea, a white lactea, a green crest & a white crest. I think you will find that the green normal will do the best, grow fastest. Then between the white normal & green crest , then the white crest will probably grow the slowest. Lacteas are pretty tough altogether but the normal will always grow strongest. Thanks for watching!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, have a wonderful week ahead!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌💖🌵🏵🌴🌺🪴🌹🌲🌷🌳😃👍

      @clearobsession3409 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@morrisparkintheozarks6831 Thank you for the tip.
      Makes sense that the lack of chlorophyll in the white specimen results in slow growing, and grafting will help grow it much faster.
      My Lactea crested is a variegated “speckled” one BTW.. and I think I’ll take the challenge and get a green and white crested to degraft.
      Worst case scenario, I’ll have more Euphorbias 😃

    Tell us how you care for Euphorbias in summer and winter? I worry they mite rot if I water them in winter.Thank you.

    • @morrisparkintheozarks6831
      @morrisparkintheozarks6831  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many of my Euphorbias are kept dry from November to April. Some of the leafy ones I will water during the winter when I notice the leaves either start to wilt or pull in around the plant. These would be milii, trigona, lophogona. The caput medusae (Medusa heads) group you have to watch the branches. These will wilt a bit during winter. But if they start turning yellow then a little water would be good to keep the branches from dying off. So maybe once a month. Also there are a lot of variables. How warm/ cold is your environment ? How much humidity? My greenhouse can get into the low 40s on a real cold day. But humidity is only 30%. Low humidity in my greenhouse is due to the wood heat,which makes it very dry. This is great, cause if it drops colder, I'm less likely to suffer damage. If in your home, then just water when the soil dries out completely. Plants like stellata and other caudex plants I wait till the branches shrivel up a bit, then give just a little to keep them from drying up. As far as summer, water when the soil completely dries out. A way to tell this is , use a wood or bamboo skewer that you would use to make a shishkabob. Slide it into the soil at the edge of the pot. If a little moist soil comes out on it, don't water. If it's powder dry , water thoroughly and monitor the soil in this way. And that's about it! Hope this helps!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks,have a wonderful day!! Peace,Love, Plants ✌💖🌵🏵🌴🌺🪴🌹🌲🌷🌳😃👍

    • @morrisparkintheozarks6831
      @morrisparkintheozarks6831  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are referring to Euphorbia trigona " red form" no, this tree does not grow from a mainstem or central head where branches radiate out and grow from. This plant should branch on its own. Mine is a straight plant not cut and has many branches. But , with this said, if you snip the tip, it will force it to grow branches. You don't need to cut the whole top off. Just the main growing point. And it will branch! Thanks for watching!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, have a wonderful weekend!! Peace Love, Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌻🌴💐🌳🌺🌲🥀🪴🌷🌿🌹🌱🏵😃👍

      I have 3 different medusae types, I believe you are talking about my flanaganii. I have only had this one about 4 years. I bought it at the plant & garden show held every February in Springfield missouri. I have replanted it once. I use a gritty coconut coir, perlite, limestone gravel & dolomite sand mix . can't tell you proportions but I know by how it feels. Well drained & without peat in the mix like many comercial mixes have. I use this for most of my cactus & succulents. When starting a cutting rooting powder works great. Mist the cutting every morning lightly. It should grow roots in a couple of weeks. Feed twice a month during the spring & summer growing season with half strength tomato fertilizer. You will know if it's thriving when it shows growth on the branches & flowers. Also give it full sun for at least half a day. Glad you like my collection!! Thanks for watching!!! So it must be normal for them to drop their leaves?

    • @morrisparkintheozarks6831
      @morrisparkintheozarks6831  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes succulent Euphorbias that produce leaves are usually deciduous at some point. Weather it is winter cool dry period, or during the driest part of summer may lose their leaves. Quite normal. In my case it's for the cool winter rest period. I let them go dry for the most part and they drop em!! Thanks for watching!! From Morris park in the Ozarks, have a great evening! Do you repot them as all growing out of the box

    • @morrisparkintheozarks6831
      @morrisparkintheozarks6831  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, as they grow they are repotted about every two years except the very large Euphorbia abyssinica which hasn't been repotted in quite a few years as this will be quite a task. The largest Euphorbia in the greenhouse, it will have to be suspended from the greenhouse rafters because of its size. But that will be another video!!!😊. Aye friend, do you think my eurphobia Trigona will crest one day before I die?

    • @morrisparkintheozarks6831
      @morrisparkintheozarks6831  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any plant can crest. But this is rare. The best chance is to buy an already crested form. So chances are against your normal form cresting. Thanks for watching!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌷🌳🌻🌴🌿🏵🌲😃👍

      I would like to do this for you but I'm not set up to take payments. I've not sold my seeds or cuttings before. So I'm not sure how to go about this. And also it would depend on if you are in or outside the USA. If you are inside the USA this will be easier as I don't have anything like PayPal and currency will be the same. Also it depends on where you are at because of shipping cost. I just sent a package to the U.K. to cactimania for a swap of plants and this costs 25.00. Let me know.

      I don't want seed. Just cuttings let me know how much including the postal cost. Then send you a check. I live in Colorado State. I did the same thing at Wade's orchids if I order .

      Might be worth a go, but I think I might need a dump truck load!!! These little ants are everywhere!! In everything!!! Not only in the greenhouse, but under about any object outside , and sometimes in anything hollow , like metal posts, outdoor lights!!! So I might have to buy in BULK!!! Hahaha!!! Euphorbia ate a diverse family of plants ! No joke. They can be a small annual weed in you yard, or a massive cactiform tree in Africa!! Or your Christmas poinsettia! These plants although some are " cactiform" are in no way related to cactus. The succulent part of the family sometimes grow like cactus because of what's called convergence. When plants grow in similar climate, they grow in similar form. Both cactus and Euphorbias are succulents. But in no way related. If you look at say "South Africa" and " Arizona" they have similar climate. So these plants evolved in the same forms . So three you go. No laughs. From Morris park in the Ozarks, have a great evening!!! Peace,Love,Plants#!!✌💖🌵🌹🌴🌷🌿🌸🌻🍀🌺
