The founders, Andrew & Peggy Cherng should listen to what your grandpa has to say. Your grandpa is correct. Most people don't know good Chinese food! Last year we moved to California Central Coast. Tried most of the Chinese restaurants in our area. If they were located in Southern California, they would be closed within 2 weeks!

I've never been able to have authentic chinese food, but my God if I get the chance I will! Tried authentic Indian and it blew my mind compared to takeaways

A lot of people don't know the history of this kind of food. The American style Chinese food is real Chinese food, but not from China. In the beginning of American history and expansion, there were a lot of Chinese immigrants. Some of them wanted to open restaurants, but to be successful, they had to make food that American's would like, so those Chinese immigrants invented what is now known as American style Chinese food. I like both styles, if they are cooked well and I like the history.
This grandpa is spot on. Love him. He's like my grandpa. Says it like it is no BS. My grandpa might sugar coat it just a bit because his grandchild bought him the food. Miss my grand dad like you wouldn't believe.

I've never been a big Panda Express fan, but it was a guilty pleasure for my mom, so I have a lot of nostalgic love for it and for the lunches we had there.

@@susanhafferkamp4325 I do it when I leave but I really should more you see I live and grew up in America and my grandpa from my moms side is from maharashtra but came to the US when he was 20-30 not sure when so I don’t really but my dad’s side from Karnataka I 100% do when leaving them not so much meeting maybe I should think about it.

I don't get it when people hate on Panda Express. It IS real Chinese food. You can find most of those same flavors and/or dishes in china. The only thing they're really missing is MSG in their food. Some Panda Express have chefs that can add wok hei to the noodles and other dishes. It's a hit or miss.
Yeah it depends on the cooks but it's not authentic or traditional Chinese food

I love Panda, I also agree with Grandpa American's put a spin on food and make it American Chinese, or whatever other food we happen to eat. It's not authentic but it's good to us because it's what we know.
I live in the States and I'm lucky to have grown up with an amazing authentic Chinese restaurant in our town. It's my favorite place to go to this day. Panda Express is okay to me, it doesn't taste authentic at all, obviously, and it's not real Chinese food, it's American Chinese mass produced food.

I don't care what grandpa says but I love PE's kungpaochicken/orangechicken/beijingbeef. I never get tired of it. But I agree that the eggroll is subpar, and so is the pork chop sauce.

I’ve noticed one thing about the older Chinese generation and there cuisine. They love and always appreciate an effort to try to make some of there dishes. Never once heard them deliberately say it’s bad just because an “American” made it. They all give it an honest opinion

Your grandpa is a wise person. Listen to him, he's the kind of person you can learn of lot from for life. He didn't dismiss the Kung Pao Chicken, although it's horrible compared to a home cooked real version of it, but he also acknowledges that it's geared towards people who grew up in the US - so not for him, ok for you.
Personally I like the Kung Pao Chicken at Panda. I always take the same combination for the few times a year I eat there. It's a bit better fast food than other places, so I prefer Panda to any other fast food outlet. My standard those two times a year is half (somewhat ok) fried rice, half (way too large cut) vegetables, Kung Pao Chicken and Broccoli Beef. None of what ends up on your plate it authentic. I wouldn't even give it more than 3 out of 5 points. It's much better than a fast food burger though. So as your grandpa says: for fast food not bad, but neither real Chinese food nor worth anything close to 5 points.

I personally as American not even of Chinese ancestors prefer traditional Chinese vs the American style your grandpa is right traditional is the seasoning and the way it’s cooked one of my favorite traditional dishes is spicy tofu which you will not find at Panda Express.
