      Thanks so much. I've come a long way since then. Built many more bugs and built wiring harnesses for them. I've been distracted by the ebike thing but will be doing more bug stuff here soon. Cheers!

      Cheers! I'm planning to revisit this on my current driver. (A '72 Beetle. ) Same layout but I installed it from scratch so much cleaner.

    Good video! Straight and to the point! I recorded the fuse panel layout on my iPhone to bring to the car, as I try to repair the rats nest I inherited.

    This is so helpful! I am new to working on my car. 1972 Super Beetle Convert. The wiring intimidates me to all ends. We have intermittent working brake lights. HUGE headache. Going to order that manual right now as well! TY

      take this to a copy shop and have them print it 11x17 and laminated. very helpful and looks cool pinned up in the garage. Check the connections at the master cylinder and where the connections t-off where they come into the hood area. Brake fluid can corrode these.

    Does a power wire go from the fuse block to the charger light ?

  • @jpbug

    Would you be able to do a 74 wiring diagram? I’m a bit confused on the wiring. Most of them are done I just have two wires left over that I don’t know where they go

    • @TheE-LightenedArtist
      @TheE-LightenedArtist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh man I would but I only have earlier bugs. I've helped a few guys with later models in my club. Maybe shoot a pic to of the wires in question to my email and I can look in one of my service manuals to try and steer you in the right direction. Lots of extra wires in those cars cuz they had a OBD type system which most folks just disconnect and ignore.

      Is that a still a 6v system? The battery might have been discharged

    • @TheE-LightenedArtist
      @TheE-LightenedArtist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Once the battery gets charged I’d check all the fuses. Hopefully the regulator survived. it’s a cheap part anyway

    I'm struggling with my wiring atm. There's so many little differences between them that it's hard to know how it should be I'm going to compare yours with mine as I have only just go the key switch to operate the starter but the speedo light comes on with ignition lol. Great fun

    • @TheE-LightenedArtist
      @TheE-LightenedArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah those later cars are a little more confusing assuming you're talking about the car in your pic. I recently acquired a 75 Super that functions but I haven't dove into it yet. fuse box is tucked under the center console so seems awkward. lemme know how you fair or if you want me to take pics of mine for ya. Cheers

      @@TheE-LightenedArtist yeah it's the one in the picture, it's a 1972 GT beetle, not a super, has swing axle and front beam. Disc brakes up front as standard amongst other things. Kind of a rare car so trying work out how it should be isn't always easy, though it does have the shelf style fusebox

    This was a great fuse box tutorial. I just purchased this book in Amazon. I have a 1971 super beetle and I have to do the wiring. Question ; this book provides a specific wiring diagram per year and models? Or just a general colored wiring diagram for all super beetles?

    • @TheE-LightenedArtist
      @TheE-LightenedArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sorry for late response. it covers many models including Gias

    Hey (sorry if this is a stupid question) but is this the same on the standard beetles aswell?

    • @TheE-LightenedArtist
      @TheE-LightenedArtist  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No dumb questions when it comes to wiring lol. Yeah it’s the same for the same year in the standard. My daily driver is a standard ‘72 and it’s all the same. The later model supers got ridiculous! All the wiring coming through the dash. Nightmare!

    Is this the same set up on a 67 beetle ? Thanks in advance.

    • @tracyburks4971
      @tracyburks4971 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Funny you ask. I’m deep into a 67 right now too. It’s basically the same but the 67 has metal tubes coming into the car as a-posed to bakelite tubes in the later cars. The space between these tubes and the heater channels is slightly tighter but same concept.

      @@douglasbarnhart3324 so sorry. thought you were commenting on a different video about heater channels...duh. in a 67 you'll have 10 fuses instead of 12. And the relays will be hung instead of plugged in. Much easier actually.

    All 4 of my running lights are out.. my brake lites work fine, and turn signal r fine..:headlights r fine…just running lite. Fuse r all ok. Why could b the problem u think?

      @TheE-LightenedArtist  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the two fuses on the drivers side are all connected and clean, I’d think it’s the switch.

    Where was the horn fuse? I can’t get mine inspected without the horn.

    • @TheE-LightenedArtist
      @TheE-LightenedArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hot wire from the horn should tie in with the hot wires from the master cylinder. The horn ground goes to the steering column. So when you push the button you are completing the circuit by grounding it.

    I have a (4th March) 1971 1302LS Karmann cabriolet which is very similar to this. I am trying to put a cigarette lighter to power a sat nav Which of these connectors should I take the power from?
