I did end up actually buying a Horween Omega from a member of the Everything Bibles Buy, Sell, and Trade Facebook group. I should be receiving it this Saturday and I could not be more thrilled. After experiencing the look and feel of the Horween firsthand I was convinced that this is something very special that stands alone in a class by itself. Perhaps when Beau and I get together again we can do a wear comparison.
I could listen to Shawn wax poetic about the sensory experience of Bible reading all day! What a blessing for God to give us beautiful things to experience in conjunction with His Word!
My heritage Horween came in today and it is awesome.
I agree with the insight that you all had about the look that we expect when it comes to premium bibles. It took me a long time to branch out to leathers other than goatskin. When I got my first rustic cowhide and pull-up cowhide, I was skeptical about whether or not I would like them--my first scratch freaked me out. Now I see it as the battle scars of spiritual warfare. These bibles tell a story about my life in Christ. The horween did not have the ready made character of the the cowhides that I have, which again had me skeptical. These conversations remind me that the character comes in time in the Word. My hands create the story that surrounds and bears the text of THE STORY of our Salvation.

I love that you still have the Bible your mother gifted you. I remember my first very nice Bible was given to me by my mother well before I ever discovered the premium Bible world. It was a brown Montana cowhide Reformation Study Bible, 2015 edition. I still have that one as well and it is an incredible resource. However, it is HUGE. Since then, I found the previous edition of the Reformation Study Bible at a Half Price Books store in burgundy bonded leather (it was promptly rebound in dark brown goatskin ;) ) and it has become my most-used Bible, even though it doesn’t quite have the same resources.
I could listen to this type of video all day.

That vintage brown though. That may be my all time favorite goatskin I’ve even seen on a Bible.
Will be interesting to see if rebinders will start offering this leather as an option for those of us who don’t use the esv
