    Man, your playing is superb almost unreal...and this is, that playing that gets the best out of spruce/rosewood combo, without the annoying squeaks normally heard in such fast playing on an acoustic (and being boosted by the spruce highs....). Great review. Thanks!!

    I found one a week ago in my local shop. It wasn't supposed to be on the floor. I bought it immediately. It is insanely good. It's a killer in DADGAD. I was instantly in love. This is going to be a game changer for Taylor. It sounds significantly better than any of the other GP guitars I've played.

    I played a used J-45 at my local store yesterday and fell in love with it. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Would sure like to get my hands on one of these Taylors to compare. Looks like they both have light gauge strings, but the Taylor has a longer scale length. Then it comes down to the tone woods and the pickups. Tough calls, depending on what you’re after.

    Yes! That sounds amazing. I thought I wanted a classic dreadnought. Well, I got a 214 GA.. it has the tone that was in my head.
    So that being said. I love all guitars, but if taylor can do a good slope shoulder, then I think they will get more converts.

  • @johnlord1399

    Always happy to see another GP in Taylor’s lineup. I was a long time Gibson owner (J-45 and J-50), and the 717e scratches all those itches for me. This 414e should compete well for those who open to trying something with a different name on the headstock. Great demo, Coop, although it might have been nice to hear a couple of open chords ring out just a bit, to show off its dreadness.

  • @markreams3192
    @markreams3192 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As far as playability and quality build, Taylor is second to none. That’s a great looking guitar and is as good looking as classic offerings from manufacturers that have a longer history of building guitars. Add to that the standard ES2 pickup system, makes the guitar a better value at that price point.

    I have a 410 w/ ovangkol, the loudest guitar i own. Ya know, I don't generally prefer rosewood, with the scooped out midrange and 'can' get punchy. But, listening to this and the other new slope shoulder Taylors on your channel, I've really loved the sound from all of them (even the maple, surprisingly). The GA I always thought was their best shape up and down the line. This new shape seems equally brilliant. The highs are shifted to a slightly more midrange so they don't sound as trebly harsh and separated from the bass. It sounds wonderfully articulate. The white binding I didn't like at first glance, but it really makes it look uniquely vintage and different from other models. I'm sure we'll see interesting special editions of this one, perhaps other B/S woods. One thing I have to mention is Cooper's great demo play... miles above others that don't adequately demo. I can't watch anyone else. Your style is so well-aligned with how I want to develop.

    Your question about standing up to the D28, there is no way to tell with the tune you played. My HD28 has a great low end that I love. You played mostly at the 12th fret and above so I can't tell if it competes with a d28 or hd28. I love to hear you play but give me a basic E and G cord and I could answer your question.

    The most important difference between the 417 and the 517 & 717 is that the 417 has the “Standard Neck Carve” (similar to the neck on the 414ce-R) and the other two do not. They have the “Compound Carve” which is much thicker and less comfortable to me.

    It doesn’t stand up to D28s, J45 deluxes, etc. I wanted it to so bad. But the tone is still too clear and straightforward. It needed a splash of warmth, twang, and growl to be knighted with the classics. Would’ve been awesome to get the dream tone with the taylor playability.

    This Taylor guitar sounds great unplugged. Just like my Taylor 414 ce. I only wish I purchased my guitar without the expressions system pickup, which I am not happy with. To build such a fine instrument and, in my opinion, put a subpar pick up in it.

  • @netterstyl
    @netterstyl ปีที่แล้ว

    I would never buy a guitar with a 1 3/4" neck (Taylor, and now Martin), but Taylor did get one thing right: their sunburst shading - it's consistently equal to the best in the business. I wouldn't be surprised if it's done by a robot, but I have no evidence to prove that. To get a good-looking sunburst shading quickly takes either a lot of skill and experience with a touchup gun, or less experience - and a lot more time - with an airbrush. Since I do very few sunbursts, I rely on a _good_ airbrush, and have the luxury of spending much more time at it, and stay at it until I'm thoroughly satisfied with the results.

    Been playing 56 years now and my best sounding acoustic is a Hohner with rosewood back and sides. Has one brass lightning bolt H inlay on the head and lightning bolts around the sound hole. Can't find the model number and no photos can be found. Only seen one online and it was a cutaway version of the same. Does anybody know what model it is?

    Not sure how it compares to a D28 or J45, but it’s the best sounding Taylor I have ever heard. I would like to hear a normal person play it. It’s unfair for Cooper to play it. He can make anything sound good. Love to tobacco sunburst. Will be my next guitar.

    • @gam1471
      @gam1471 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, Taylors are great for bluegrass, loads of punch and power - good enough for star picker Dan Crary, who's played one for years, and Trey Hensley also sounds great on a Taylor. I think that a Taylor will out-gun a Martin in a bluegrass setting. All the modern Martin dreadnoughts I've heard are a bit subdued volume-wise compared with a Taylor - but of course that's just my take based on what I've heard, and others will disagree.
      I've owned a Dan Crary signature model Taylor for years. It was built in 1992, and it's a superb guitar. I can't play like Dan though!
      I'll definitely try a 417-eR to see how it compares.

    This is a great sounding model.... Will it appeal to a J-45 player? Maybe one who's shopping only on visual appeal. The thing is the 417 has a 25.5 scale length and uses Taylor's V-Class bracing. With Rosewood back and sides and the longer scale, tonally it's going to be more of a fit for someone looking for a Gibson Advanced Jumbo than a J-45. I think the V-Class bracing produces a bit too much high-end for open chord strumming, it just sounds a big bright whereas a Gibson player is probably looking for dry thump.

  • @waynzwhirled6181
    @waynzwhirled6181 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great looking guitar. I do love dreadnoughts, slope shoulder or not. It sounds good, and seems to have a lot of clarity (articulation?). For the price, it doesn't sound great. It's a little too bright for me, like all the Taylors I've tried or heard. I have a beautiful $1000 all-solid spruce/rosewood dread that is a mellow cannon. Of course, beauty is in the eye and ear of the beholder.

    Wish you could get it without their pickup, because their pickup does not the true sound of the guitar

    Taylor’s always feel and sound sterile to me.
    Like something completely machine made impersonating a musical instrument at a ridiculous price.
