    I'm so glad to hear an actor to say these things that so many of us enthusiasts of Star Trek feel about the series and movies. Sure, it's science fiction but it doesn't seem to be when you have people who can bring these characters to life. Kudos to Brent Spiner!

    Data has to be one of the top 25 T.V. characters of all time, and maybe higher. He's up there with 'Lucy', 'Kirk', 'Picard', 'Hawkeye', Archie Bunker, Jax Teller, Homer Simpson, Walter White, Bugs Bunny, Mr. Bean, Columbo, All Bundy, Fox Mulder, Mr. Rogers, Frasier Crane, Sam Malone, and others. Data is in the mix, and good for Brent Spiner. He is an absolutely under-rated actor with fantastic range. Glad he found his 'niche' with Star Trek.

    Star Trek is an epic. Spock and Data are the two bright stars in the series.

      thats because both actors put everything and more time and talent into their characters, then anyone else, they will always be the epic characters of the franchise that will be remembered forever.

      The game Detroit: Become Human I think takes a ton of inspiration from Data, and by extension the whole Soong family storyline. Connor feels very much like Data throughout the entire game, and D:BH being set in a realistic future really makes me think that when actual androids become that sophisticated, they'll be very similar to the likes of Data and Connor. Star Trek does have a habit of predicting huge technological advancements.

    My favorite Sci-Fi character hands down. Favorite Star Trek book(s): Cold Equations. If you haven't read it, it's a must.
    One of my favorite parts of the movies is on insurrection where Data goes berserk, and Worf has to sneak onto Data's ship to remote shut him off. Data lunges at Worf. Worf quickly hits the remote and then leads out a huge sigh of relief . Worf's a big dude, and gets annoyed easily by Data's quirkiness, but Data could've ripped him to shreds.

    I've been saying for years that there's probably no actor who's in the US or the UK that is more than 3 degrees away from Star Trek. With the increase in cast diversity, I'm pretty sure that would be a global thing now.

    Spiner rides this fine line between 1) Playing an endearing character very well, and... 2) patting himself on the back for it. I suppose that's a natural symptom of a perpetual Star Trek circuit ride where you are paid to talk about yourself endlessly. Must be great. Good for him.

    Star Trek has always been a company of really great actors playing in short improvisational plays. Some times it was heroic and sometimes it was comedic and sometimes tragedy. I have been a fan since the original series. Our minister was a Trekkie. Just like the Bible is a great tale of humanity with all its foibles.

    Why is he bragging about knowing everybody in Hollywood? What does that have to do with the interview other than boast how important/special he is? And why does he keep repeating how there were "way way way more ups than downs"? Sounds like he's hiding how he's really feeling or had felt. And why mention how it bothered him at all about people recognizing him as Data? It's not their fault Star Trek was the most significant/publicly memorable part of his acting career.

    • @Leroset
      @Leroset 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Tomas Maly He's not boasting, he's giving shout-outs to the people that he knew that helped him. Career success in Hollywood is built on connections, so everyone there talks about who they know and tries to give public kudos when they can. As for him being annoyed at being called Data--he's human and he's NOT Data! His name is Brent Spiner! Of course he'll be annoyed at people getting his name wrong day in and day out for decades. If people are truly fans of his characters, then they should remember Brent's name, as a sign of respect. It seems that you don't understand how Hollywood works, and that you're upset that he wants to be treated like a human being. Shame on you.
