Just because it's winter time does not mean that beekeepers have nothing to do. In fact, it's a time for repairing, repainting, rebuilding and reflecting. Here are six tips to get you through the winter so that you hit the Springtime ready!!
Yep, it's time to get started getting things done for the season. I've cut way back as I'm getting a bit older and the back can't do the work it once did. You storage tip of the queen excluder is excellent. I've been doing that for years. Since my boxes are stored in a trailer at a farm I put a queen excluder on the bottom and one at the top. Put a few bricks in the corners on the top and it's set for ventilation.
My biggest issue is mice getting in the other equipment and building nests. They are a pain. The farm cats can't keep up with them. I've resorted to traps hidden where only mice can reach. I don't want to hurt the farm animals.
Keep the videos coming .
That's awesome that you store your equipment in a trailer. I appreciate your feedback and watching my channel Bee Bob! See you in the next one (Friday ;)
Thanks Hive Doctor!!!!
You bet!!🐝🐝
I bought a frame cutting machine for Christmas. I made 200 frames in 3 days. I am going to rotate out older nasty frames and not worry that I am short on frames. thank you for all of your timely information. great content and to the point about rodents and other pests. happy beekeeping from Colorado.
A frame cutting machine?! Nice! I didn’t even know you could get one of those. You could start a business!😅🐝
I saw a video on utube. you cut the blanks out of deminensional lumber, a 2x4x8' will make 10 deep or medium frames.
@stanleyjones6705 How cool! You can make frames at a fraction of the cost and have fun doing it. I like it 🐝
Excellent video. I started the day after Xmas. It’s always good to have extra equipment handy. I had to split my one hive last June and had a 5 frame Nuc I made into a swarm trap. It gave me the time to build a new 10 frames Hoover I ordered the day I made the split. Hang on to those genetics if you can. 🤗
Sweet! Sounds like you’re on top of things. What’s a 10 frame Hoover?🐝
@@thehivedoctor13 Hoover Hive, their fit and finish are high quality and the parts are waxed dipped. Putting together is a little challenging because the dovetails are tight, but they come out square.
@captbrian Okay, I think that I will look those up online. Thanks Captain 😉🐝
😍😍
I was told that the top and bottom was best coated by using glue, it seals and doesn't stick like paint. What do you thing, it seems to seal good.
I've never tried that. Any glue I've ever spilled on something seems to peel off later. Perhaps with the right kind of glue?
Hi from Texas. I use Gorilla Glue foam glue to repair my boxes.
@user-cp2sx8gp2z Gorilla Glue Foam?! Really? That sounds cool. I’ve never seen that but I imagine it would make a better surface contact than traditional wood glue. Nice!🐝
