    This was by far the best and most watchable guide to the C100 out there. I watched about 10 C100 videos and yours was the only one that didnt put me to sleep. This is huge. Plus it was easy to understand, and by searching your other videos I now know how to cut my balls off and cook brisket in an instanpot because who the heck fire has time to smoke meat anymore. Especially when you waste so much time searching the internet for an easy to watch and understand video on how to shoot with the camera your low paying production company gave you to go out into the field with. well done sir. now Im going to go drink until I pass out

    This was great! Thanks. Im looking to buy my first camera. Im a novice filmmaker and im wondering if this is too technical to start with. Everyone seems to start off with DSLRs but im hearing great things about this! Is the learning curve for a camera like this harder than for a DSLR do you think?

    • @RedCowEntertainment
      @RedCowEntertainment  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't say it's too technical to start with (probably about the same learning curve). DSLRs are great because they have a small form factor, you can easily bring it with you everywhere, and you can usually find cheap lenses to adapt to them. It's also great if you happen to take a lot of photos and videos. Myself, I switch between photos and videos often so I like having a DSLR. DSLRs are also easier to put on a gimbal for stabilization.The c100 mk 2 is really great if you only do video production. There's lots of great quality of life things like xlr inputs for sound, built in nd filters, long battery life, and long runtime for video (many DSLRs cap video files at 30 minutes). So if you believe you'll be doing mostly video, not much photography, and don't feel like traveling light, totally go for something like the c100 mk2.

    • @ladygigi9097
      @ladygigi9097 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RedCowEntertainment Thanks for this. Very helpful. I would love to make film mostly but yeah photography is also useful...Mostly i would only use photography to take stills of whatever im shooting (im told i can do this on a c100 too?) I think im 80% sold on the c100 mkii but just started to look into the canon 90D, which films 120p for better slo mo and also has all the benefits of the dslr you mentioned...Its also cheaper!! Hmmm...decisons...decisions!!!

    I am for the first time utilizing the monaural mic on the camera body to sync in post with externally captured audio. I have been hunting around the manual and online, and can find nothing about the mic’s native sensitivity or whether that can be adjusted or padded in any way. Or does it have auto-level? The menu just offers an on/off option. I know this is just a scratch track but I’m a detail freak so it bugs me that I appear to have no metrics to go by or control available. Am I missing something or is that “black hole” the reality?

    Can I plug in a lav receiver into one of the xlr ports and a shotgun mic like from Sennhessinar into the other XLR port?
    Also if my mic doesn't have it's own power supply which setting do I use? I could've tell from the video. Thanks!

    • @lb7144
      @lb7144 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use a receiver in one XLR and shotgun mic in the other. I can’t remember off hand what setting to power it. Canon has a tutorial on the C100 MKII.

    Do you have any tips about recording with the C100 in OBS? I have it set at 1080 / 30 fps, but in OBS, it's pixelated, whereas a GoPro connected to OBS looks sharp.

  • @caseyonlocation8257
    @caseyonlocation8257 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, thumbs up! Question please. Is it true that when recording long time videos, if the clips is larger than 2GB in size, the camera will automatically split the video into smaller files? If this is accurate, I find this disappointing. Here's an excerpt from the B&H site on the C100ii specs: "The camera records video to SDHC/SDXC cards using AVCHD, a high-efficiency codec that has quickly become a standard in both the professional and consumer video markets. Maximum bit-rate is 24 Mbps. Video files greater than 2GB are split into multiple files while recording, which are automatically joined together upon import using Canon Data Import."

    • @Styciewaweru
      @Styciewaweru 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's correct but you won't notice the splitting when editing

    • @caseyonlocation8257
      @caseyonlocation8257 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Styciewaweru Okay...but the fact remains that a long video will continue into a 2nd separate clip or more, correct? If so, that's just one more thing that I have to consider as an extra burden on my workflow. My Canon XF400 and Canon G60 camcorders don't do that. I'm guessing the older cameras with their older codecs have this "issue"?

    between this canon c 100 mark ii and sony pxw x 200 which one should i buy?

    • @RedCowEntertainment
      @RedCowEntertainment  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on what you are looking for. I believe the pxw has a fixed lens but it does have internal 422 10-bit vs the c100 mk ii internal 420 8-bit. C100 has interchangeable lenses. Me personally, I like the color on the video right out of the camera on canons vs Sony's but that's just my preference. I also like the controls and menus on Canon vs sony. I know some people need 422 10 bit for certain broadcasting standards, but if that's not important to you, I'd go with the canon as you can get a little more creative with different lenses. Canon does have 422 8-bit output via hdmi if necessary. Hope that helps!
