Thank you. I ended up with the Sigma 10-18mm. Own quite a few Sigma APS-C and full frame and no Tamron’s lenses and I liked the Sigma pairing with the 18-50/2.8 with their really small size on my A6700. Also own the Sigma 30/1.4 and 56/1.4 primes for this kit and the Sony 15/1.4 G. Im very happy with the purchase for sure. Enjoy your reviews. Take care.
Thanks for the awesome review. I was considering both lenses along with the Tokina 10-18mm ATX f2.8 which was on sale for $399. I have a Sony A6700 with the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and the little Sigma 10-18mm was the perfect complement for my compact kit. In the end the compact size and the minimum focus distance of the Sigma was what won me over the Tamron and the Tokina. I initially bought a Sony 11mm f1.8 but I found that it was too wide for a street lens. In the end the 10-18mm zoom suited my purposes better as a walk around lens and as you pointed out can also be used indoors as a studio lens. This kit fits in a 3L Peak Design Bag and I find that I take it out most of the time instead of my full frame kit. My friends are surprised that this APSC kit is lighter and more compact than even their Micro Four Thirds Kit.

Thanks for the nice comparison. It would be far nicer if the sharpness tests were done at landscape scene rather than macro, because that's what these lenses are for, and more importantly, sharpness widely differs on focusing distances in general.
I watched the video until the end and immediately subscribed. It's such a good review; I'll check on your channel before making any purchase decisions!! Thank you!

I would definitely choose the sigma today but to be fair Tamron was earlier in the game and released the 11-20 2.8 in 2021. Until sigma released this beauty the Tamron was the only ultra wide 2.8 lens for Sony APSc. Great comparison as always Mark 😊
Thanks so much for comparing these two lenses. I think you are one of the first doing this even though it's so obvious to compare these two lenses. I own already the Tamron 18-300mm for APSC as an over all travelling lens but thinking of a wide angle zoom to complete the set (not talking about some primes as Zeiss Touit 32, Zeiss Batis 25 and a Samyang 12). Thank you for helping me in deciding.
@@gunjitsingh2709 For the moment being I decided to stick to the Tamron super zoom in combination with the primes. It's also due to the still high price that I didn't decide.
The Ulanzi sounds surprisingly better, especially at the low end frequency. Of course the distance range is lower as is the bitrate, but shouldn't really make that much of a difference if you're going on TH-cam . I guess the build quality is what matters. I wonder how the Ulanzi would handle a drop, or general usage over time. Still, it's cost effective enough to easily replace. Great review!
Very nice presentation, gets to the point with no irritating side trips/promotions/stupid music or graphics-- THANK YOU!! I bought the Tamron version III about a year ago after it was redesigned and improved - having a lot of fun with it. Was tempted to get the Sony f/4 due to small size and "G" status, but decided f/2.8 was more important to me. Use it with my a6700 which has stabilization although with a wide lens that might not be very important. I do not shot video; 100% stills. When traveling I use the Sony E 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS except in close quarters or at night - then I switch to the Tamron. Would be fun to buy another ASPC lens, but what would it be? Suggestions please. [new subscriber].
Thank you for another very interesting and fun review : ) Now, as you mentioned both are external zooming lenses (Sigma extending 10 mm and Tamron extending 20 mm) I wonder which one is less likely, or even none, to require rebalancing every time you change the focal length on gimbal say ronin RC4.
Thank you for this review ! I was about to buy the Tamron when Sigma released this one. I rented the tamron for a Real Estate shooting with my Sony A6300, love it !! I'll check to rent the Sigma one, Sigma lenses are so nice 🤩
I hope the Ulanzi Wireless Mic Kit is in the review pipeline. It sounded great and includes internal recording for each mic, just like the big boys and only costs $99 USD.
So I was thinking of getting the Sigma but then the Tokina 11-18mm F2.8 (ATX-M) fell into my cart instead at $399. So far I'm loving it. Perhaps if you're able to, maybe adding it to the comparison with these lenses just to see where it aligns?
Could you compare the Sigma 18-50 vs Sigma 28-70 FF? I know, kinda strange comparisons, maybe theres enough interest. Reason asking is, that I was pleasingly surprised when I saw pictures from the FF Sigma but not from the little one. Wondering if that had more to do with my cam in that case. (A6000 vs a7c). If its similar, I'll probably just go grab the a6700 then
I'd love the sigma, if not for it's worse weather sealing vs the Tameron. I hope Sony eventually does one without compromise, but at the same time, it's a hard range for them to justify entry into given how competent the competition is here.
Theyre both going for different stakes. The sigmas almost always degault back to sharpness at all cost , disregarding size , corner sharpness to some extent and etc. Tamrons have kinda been supporting sony's non gm and g zoom lenses while going for overall value.
@@davidconti_travels I have mixed feelings on that. As much as I would prefer 2.8, the appeal of the 10-18 and 18-50 is their size for travel. I guess if Sigma could keep it small, 2.8 would be ok, but personally, if it takes a F4.0 to keep the size consistent with the other 2, I'd be willing to do that.
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. Factually, I know that I need to add a telephoto to my kit. That doesn't seem to stop me from buying nothing but wide angles though. Funny, that.
Its funny that sigma's apsc zoom are always smaller since it is built for apsc and with no compromise ( they couldve used the 28 70 chassis ). While tamrons are always bigger since their apsc and ff stuff is mostly different internals ( 17 70 is in a 2875 chassis with is ). Good on both ends , at least the bigger ones have a reason to exist
This volume and weight, I would definitely choose Sigma, after all, go out to travel or landscape photography, it is certainly easy to carry is the best choice!
I like that the Tamron goes to 20mm, but the Sigma looks better for landscape work. Really what I want for landscape is an 10-25mm F3.5. I assume neither of these have OIS?
Thank you for the review. It is so helpful. Question: if I have an a6400, and want to do landscape photography, do you think the wider aperture would be more important from the sigma, or the image stabilization on the Sony 10-18 f4? Was also thinking of getting a Sony 11 prime as well.
@@Ginette688 I would get the sigma because it’s a much sharper lens at NY aperture. The image stabilization won’t matter much at all, especially in landscape photography
Watching this video again... I really can't get over how much better the active stabilization is with the Sony 11mm. I have only used 3rd party lenses (aside from the kit lens, which I rarely use) and I feel like I'm always fighting that slight amount of jarring that active stabilization can't reduce, especially when I'm gathering b-roll in a time-sensitive shoot. I'd be curious to see a video comparing native lenses vs. 3rd party for stabilization.
I think it would be interesting! A real world comparison! Just re-watching the sony 11 vs tamron 11-20 video, you have it on a gimbal and it's obviously way smoother. I'm trying to rig my camera out so it can go from studio to gimbal/b-roll gathering in a flash. Cheers!@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
Hey Mark, have you ever tried the Tokina 11-18 F2.8 and maybe thought of comparing it to Sigma and Tamron? I am in the market for an ultrawide zoom eight now. What do you think?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you. I'd appreciate your opinion before I pull the trigger. It seems to be a bit cheaper than the Sigma. There is really no comparison to the Sigma out there.
I am very confused between sigma 10-18 + sigma 18-50 or tamron 11-20 + tamron 17-70 needs for architecture, travel, landscape photography. Do you have any suggestions on which one should I choose? Thanks 🙏🏻
I'm just thinking the same thing. I bought the 11mm before, and for real estate videography, and vlogging it is wonderful, but for landscaping or street photography, I definitely need to change lenses. I can't justify having both, so I have to make a difficult decision sony 11mm vs sigma 10-18mm. Someone help us.
I noticed you were using the Ulanzi mic. If you were using the zve10 what audio settings (preamp level) would you use in camera and what gain on Ulanzi mic. I always seem to come up a little low in audio levels when I publish. Even seeing the camera levels at -12db. Cheers.
Im still having trouble making up my mind. The Tamron is available for about $475 used in excellent or LN condition, The the edge sharpness is way better IMO on the Sigma. Also, the Tamron has better weather resistance. Somebody, make up my mind! LOL. Hey, great review sir.
Great lens comparison. I have to say I was also impressed with the Ulanzi wireless mic recording in your outdoor shot. Did you treat the Ulazni recording in post? Or was it straight out of camera? Either way, for $99 USD, the Ulanzi is pretty good,
Hello Mark love your content and knowledge on cameras and lenses, I would really appreciate some advice, I have Sony ZVE10s,I shoot indoors and require close up view within 2-3 foot range videos in 4k, at first I tried adapting a Cannon EFS 10-22 lens using Artisan7 Adaptor, but quickly realize would needed a lower number mm like 10-12mm, looking now for a lens Sonny E mount that is good between 11-16mm either variable of possibly fixed at 12 or 14mm, that is decent for video, please help, p.s. sorry for long explanation, I have could have sworn 14mm was enough when connected to my canon 60d, thanks in advance.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis great, if I remove my adaptor, i may not require 10-11mm any more and maybe 13mm is more correct, so you are recommending a more fixed lens, thank you for taking the time to answer my question I will look into those lens, thanks once again...
the Sony 11 is much better, but costs a lot more. if you’re just vlogging, the Rokinon will do the job, but the Sony also works better with electronic stabilization but for best quality and especially for photos, and better stabilization, go for the Sony.
When shooting with video with the sigma, can you use the camera's zoom lever to zoom in/out or has it to be done only through the lens' zoom ring? Asking because it is more difficult to use the ring when using a gimbal.
Just ordered an interesting lens... Tamron 18-400 for Canon, speedboosted for m43. Can't wait! You wanna talk about a killer travel setup? Yes buddy, 12.87-284mm f2.4-4.4. Ohhh buddy. Sure the 12-100 f4 Pro is sweet but man, really curious to see how this stacks up. Armchair Videographer videos will be coming up as well. Fun times! Newfoundland says hello as well :) Sigma bokeh balls were a little salty haha
Mark, thank you for the highly entertaining review! It's a nice move of Sigma to give the 10-18mm at least one "weak" point compared to the Tamron, which would be the close-up center sharpness 😉But to be honest, without Tamron's 11-20mm there might be no Sigma 10-18mm, so thanks Tamron for going ahead, and showing Sigma what works on the market (😉 emoji, again). I finally sold my Sony 11mm F1.8 today, and am now waiting for the Sigma 10-18mm to arrive. Seems there's a bit of order backlog on the 10-18, at least here in Germany...
@@joshuaaruiz It's an excellent lens. But I almost never used it. The 10-18mm is far more flexible and I assume I will use it much more. Also I don't have the budget to have 1200€ of ultra wide angle lenses laying around ;)
Some time later, as has been your use of the sigma 10-18mm, I have the Sony 11mm and I would like to know if it is a good idea to change it for the sigma. @@jhirse3547
Hi Mark, I really enjoy all your videos, but can you choose a better outdoor location to shoot, all your outdoor videos are shot in the zombie ghettos in Baltimore, which is depressing. Thank you.
Wider, smaller AND lighter? The Sigma takes it, easily. What a perfect travel UWA. This lens almost makes me want to stay with APS-C instead of FF for my travel set-up 😅 I really wish their 18-50mm was 16mm at the wide end. The less we need to change out our main lenses for a spacialist lens (i.e. the wide angle), the better.
I like the bigger size of the tamron the sigma i know is probably as good or better since sigma makes awesome glass but the small size appears to me like a toy lens the tamron is a good size dor a lens would match perfecr on my r7 witch im watching cuz both these lenses are finally being released to the RF mount on canon so i wanted to see the reviewd on both these lenses since im sure opticalu they will be equal to the RF versions. Thabks for the review very nicely done
As I commented on Mark's Sigma 10-18 video, I bought the Tamron 11-20 the day I learned from Mark that the new Sigma was released. Comparing number-wise I had a bit of buyer's remorse. 🙈 But I brought the Tamron along on a recent trip where I shot a lot of video with it, and I was pleasantly surprised with the extra reach the Tamron has. I'd have to switch lenses much more often with the Sigma. That 20mm doesn't sound like much, but it just makes the shots feel less "wide angle", than the still relatively wide feel of 18mm. I recommend trying for yourself to compare the two.
@@scannerapps3503 Recommend to compare the two in your hands. Last week had the chance to hold the Sigma, and boy is it lighter! There’s that mental thing on whether you’d grab a lens with you, and weight counts a lot. Especially for a focal range that isn’t the usual mid-range. The other day I weighted my options (pun intended) whether I wanted to carry the extra weight of the 11-20, or found 17 wide enough. The Sigma would have been a no-brainer.
Does the little passerby also wonder about the lives of the lives of the 38k people watching the video. She likely should. :-) Now that these lenses are coming to the Canon R APS-C line-up, I can start paying attention. I am very confused between sigma 10-18 + sigma 18-50 or tamron 11-20 + tamron 17-70 needs for architecture, travel, landscape photography. Do you have any suggestions on which one should I choose? Thanks 🙏🏻
10-18 and 17-70 should be good enough.
im trying to make a hard decision between sony 11m f1.8 or this lense the sigma 10-18mm f2.8 someone please help !!!
Someone help us.
i guess ima have to take one for the team as they say ! lol 😂@@gamadrid
I finally sold the Sony 11mm, now the question is Tamron or Sigma. But I know I'm going to enjoy an ultra-wide-angle zoom more. @@Mr_762
How does the sigma stack up against the Tokina 11-18mm f2.8?
I haven’t reviewed the tokina yet
I noticed you were using the Ulanzi mic. If you were using the zve10 what audio settings (preamp level) would you use in camera and what gain on Ulanzi mic. I always seem to come up a little low in audio levels when I publish. Even seeing the camera levels at -12db.
Cheers.
I usually set the Sony to 7 and the default for the ulanzi
Thanks Mark.
Im still having trouble making up my mind. The Tamron is available for about $475 used in excellent or LN condition, The the edge sharpness is way better IMO on the Sigma. Also, the Tamron has better weather resistance. Somebody, make up my mind! LOL. Hey, great review sir.
Did you decide ? 😁
@@mbthedaytrader Yea, got the Sigma and have been happy with it.
Great lens comparison. I have to say I was also impressed with the Ulanzi wireless mic recording in your outdoor shot. Did you treat the Ulazni recording in post? Or was it straight out of camera? Either way, for $99 USD, the Ulanzi is pretty good,
Straight outta cam!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I'm tempted to get it. But, I own so many wireless kits. :)
I already have sigma 18-50, need that 10-18.
Great video! thank You!
I really hope Sigma comes out with a small lightweight 50-150 or 50-135 2.8 ...To complete that series
Watching this on 48" 4K screen and Sigma is noticeably sharper in the center even through TH-cam compression.
Please compare with 15mm lens
Pause he said they feel good in the hand or where ever you want to put them lol. 😂
🤣
The Sony 11mm 1.8, the Yonguo 11 f1.8, and the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 are your nest bets. The Viltrox 13 is wide, but not ultra-wide like the 11
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis great, if I remove my adaptor, i may not require 10-11mm any more and maybe 13mm is more correct, so you are recommending a more fixed lens, thank you for taking the time to answer my question I will look into those lens, thanks once again...
How do you always know exactly what content I was looking for?
you can buy thoughts from Google now.
Can you do a comparison between the Rokinon 12mm f2 and the Sony 11mm?
the Sony 11 is much better, but costs a lot more. if you’re just vlogging, the Rokinon will do the job, but the Sony also works better with electronic stabilization but for best quality and especially for photos, and better stabilization, go for the Sony.
When shooting with video with the sigma, can you use the camera's zoom lever to zoom in/out or has it to be done only through the lens' zoom ring? Asking because it is more difficult to use the ring when using a gimbal.
you can only use the zoom rocker with a power zoom like the Sony 10-20
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks for the speedy reply!! Love your videos btw!
Fun times! Newfoundland says hello as well :)
Sigma bokeh balls were a little salty haha
Why’d you sell your 11mm tho?
Thank you.
I am walking in my neighbourhood - so… thanks??
😂 give mark a break
Hi Mark, what about sun stars?
actually really comparable and good on both. don’t have any sun here right now to test 😂
Mark, is it possible to take black background photos without an actual black background or flash?
The iPhone camera’s Portrait Mode has a Stage Light option that can do that.

251, 255, 270 grams. which is it?
Can both these lens work good with the a7iv for 4k 60?
absolutely
it is so hard to choose man
When you turn on the active on the sony . What's the length 10mm become ?
40% crop. Something like a 14 or 15 mm.
active on the 6700 crops in 10% - so like an 11-12. on the zv-e10 is more like a 14-15 because it’s a bigger crop on the zv-e10
I saw a TH-cam review on the 11 20 tamron the lens has focus breathing in focus for video is bit slow in video .
Is it true
it does have some focus breathing as I demonstrated in the video. The focus is fine in video.
Wider, smaller AND lighter? The Sigma takes it, easily. What a perfect travel UWA. This lens almost makes me want to stay with APS-C instead of FF for my travel set-up 😅
I really wish their 18-50mm was 16mm at the wide end. The less we need to change out our main lenses for a spacialist lens (i.e. the wide angle), the better.
both lenses look great. I would get the cheaper one 😅
Thanks for the video mark!
smart!!

I recommend trying for yourself to compare the two.
this is a good point. I should have emphasized that you do get some more reach on the Tamron. and it’s a magnificent lens!!
Def needed this didnt onow tge sigma existed
The price did not drop somehow
"they both feel really good in the hand or wherever else you like to put them" XD
Vlogging in your 40s, and you wonder why you feel so naughty :D

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I only started vlogging in my 40s ... it's what you do when you decide you love cameras and lenses... :)

I did really like the video. Am I crazy, how does it have 14k likes but 7.8k views. Am I crazy? That’s impossible right?
I think that must be a glitch. this video has 406 likes.
First!🎉
Does the little passerby also wonder about the lives of the lives of the 38k people watching the video. She likely should. :-)
Now that these lenses are coming to the Canon R APS-C line-up, I can start paying attention. Except for the price, I'm really not terribly wild about my RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 and glad to see that there are going to be options.
