I love when you “criticize” new makeup releases. Some influencers push “new & viral” products. which is fine because it’s part of their job, but to me it’s overwhelming. I specifically don’t like the short form content on TikTok, where it’s a lot of fast energy packed into the review. It’s okay to buy new makeup but it is important to be mindful of why you want to spend your money on it. Me as an average consumer I can’t justify keeping up with every new release. Thats why i love your videos because 1. Its a long form video discussing multiple products 2. You aren’t trying to sell me a product. You discuss it from your viewpoint on whether it’ll work for you. That makes me think of reasons whether a product will work for me. 3. You have a very calming voice and are well spoken I also loved your video about decorating your beauty space, the mini vlogs and the decluttering and re-organizing content. Lots of love for you and your channel 😘
How do I feel when I come to your channel, you ask? Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy. In my lane. Focused. Flourishing. All memes aside, your channel is a very safe space for me. I’m chronically stressed because of uni and watching your videos make my brain go silent instantly. And I also learn so much from you. I LOVE YOU.
I don’t think that way about your channel, I’ve discovered ur channel this year and I love ur content, unlike many creators I think ur channel makes me spend my money wisely on products that will actually work out for me rather than over consuming. I actually like rather than ones being newly released and hyped, it takes away many things I would’ve regretted buying and guilt too for wasting money and products too
I'm a recent subscriber, I really enjoy your videos for evaluating make up without the need to just keep up with new releases - you're a positive influence! Would definitely be interested in more content around playing with make up techniques and different kinds of products/looks
When I watch your videos I feel very casual and like my opinion on makeup matters. Like I don’t have to buy every new makeup trend. But more like we’re friends talking about makeup. I don’t comment on videos but i really like how you ask us for our opinions. The conversation in the comment section is very nice. I don’t really buy makeup. I have my favorites that I stick with unless there’s something that really catches my eye. But I have to read all the reviews and test it before committing. Your videos are very thoughtful and playful. I love your videos! Keep up the great work!! Your makeup looks amazing!!
i’m a young adult and i don’t always do my makeup but it makes me feel good. i get overwhelmed with always being influenced to buy the newest thing and your content made me realize i wasn’t appreciating the makeup i already use. i do want to buy more makeup but its really encouraging to remind myself to invest products that are realistic for my preferences and lifestyle. i subscribed after watching “Makeup you’ll always regret buying or returning,” bc it made me appreciate the makeup that i already reach for. you are a breathe of fresh air
I actually really love watching your videos in the background whenever I'm doing makeup or skincare! Even though I don't have a very large makeup collection, I've always been very passionate about researching makeup/makeup releases. You've been my go-to person for informative makeup content and I love your in-depth videos as well as your vlogs!! :)
I love your channel and it gave me a huge relief to see someone not trying to sell me stuff constantly, and to enjoy my collection that is very big already, and it help me to have the realization that i dont need more, and i enjoy seeing my make up finishing or panning, and i also feel that i can trust your opinions in recommendations! ❤
I love how down to earth you are and how you aren't basing all your content around PR that you get. You know what we feel as consumers and remind us that buying constantly isn't NORMAL!
I subscribed to your channel earlier this year and honestly it’s the content I enjoy watching the most. I think you do a great balance between hauling new makeup, discussing new makeup, but also deinfluencing makeup as well. I look back on my old makeup spending habits when I was in my early to mid-twenties (I am early 30s now) and I wish I didn’t buy a lot of the makeup that I bought. Your channel and Andrea Matillano (sp?) really helped with not feeling like I need to buy a lot and settling on core products that I enjoy and therefore when I do find the occasional makeup product that catches my eye, I don’t feel guilty about buying it
I know it’s been like a month but- the reason I love your content is because of your vibe, you are so calm and I can tell that you love makeup, and It’s really just relaxing for me when I watch your videos. 90 percent of the content I watch is makeup or beauty related. Because I LOVE makeup, makeup is one of my biggest hobbies. I do my makeup everyday, not always to go somewhere but I literally just love sitting down and spending hours swatching my makeup, doing my makeup and it’s so calming but fun for me. I get the same vibes from watching your videos as I do when I’m actually doing my makeup. In the past I’ve never really splurged on makeup but recently (since like middle of summer to now), I have been buying a lot of makeup, and I see TikTok’s sometimes that makes me feel bad for buying so much makeup, but your videos do not makeup feel that way because when you are making videos about “recent” makeup launches “ or “makeup you don’t need” ect.. to me is more about getting what works for you getting what you actually want, not just getting something because it’s new or the hype around it rather than shaming consumers for buying makeup and that’s why I even love your videos when it is though types of videos.
Hey 🥹 This feedback is SO helpful and allows me to understand what I’m doing right. I am so glad you understand the intentions behind my content. Thank YOU for taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment.
I really enjoy watching your videos because they encourage me to have a more mindful and healthier relationship with makeup. Criticizing new releases keeps me from being overwhelmed by them/discourages impulse buying, commentary of makeup trends themselves is interesting, and this new type of video will help teach me to shop my own collection before heading to the local beauty store
I have a very similar thought process to yours, so I enjoy listening to you and agreeing, enjoying and complaining with you, I also like the fact that we share similar preferences and problems in makeup, maybe cause I also have oily skin. I do feel like you sometimes come off as anxious or insecure but I like the rawness of your thoughts, makes me feel like I’m with a friend.
Answering your question about how we feel about your channel, I can tell you that I feel calm. You have a voice which is very pleasant to listen to, and you are also very nice with everything you say, even though I am new to seeing your content, I can tell you that you have become one of my favorite content creators. I hope you continue like this and achieve great things 🫶
I honestly like watching videos on new releases as I can learn more about them w/o having to spend my coin and has rlly helped me control my spending as I already get most of the “rush” associated w shopping for new makeup through watching reviews/first impressions
Elle! Maybe this sounds silly but I like your content simply because it's you, and I find that no matter what the "focus" is (haul, critique, beauty routine, advice), your love of makeup really shines through. My absolute favorite video of yours is the Best Makeup of the Year 2023/ The Chu Choice Awards because your passion and enthusiasm just radiate. I also really like your organizing/ room refresh videos in addition to the beauty reviews, etc. I initially found your channel through a "no budget" video, but I subscribed because I super appreciate your refreshing and informative takes and the variety of your content. I definitely think your videos are chill and calming (like others have said, your voice is perfect for that), and they're a great way for me to wind down while I do my beauty routine etc. You've got the magic, and wherever you take your channel I'm here for the long haul ($$ or no-budget 😜) 💟
I love your content. Its very...chill. i am not sure if i am describing it correctly but when i watch any video from your channel, especially more recent ones, it feels chill. Like, no flashy editing, no rapid talking, it feels chill. I love to play with makeup (within a budget of course) and therefore for a lot of my makeup collection isn't too flashy. But i love it that way, its practical yet fun. In general, i just love the sit-down-and-talk aspect of your videos. Also! I have oily and sensitive skin myself. I don't have acne problems but my skin does breakout when i don't treat it correctly. Which in turn means that i am quite afraid to try to new products because who knows how my skin will react to it. So its nice to watch another person llay with makeup that way :)
Yes! I have definitely shifted my videos to be more chill because those are the videos I love. Thank you for sharing your experience with my content, it’s really helpful. ♥️
I started watching you because we have similar skin tones and types. But nowwww I'm planning for my wedding. I decided in going to do my own makeup. So listening to your content has really helped in making purchases for my makeup. Weddings get EXPENSIVE! So it's nice to see what I should splurge on and what I what I can find a dupe for. So thanks!! 💖
I love your content Elle. You inspire us all to be careful with our purchases, but also live without guilt, and learn to enjoy makeup. Keep up the great content ❤❤
I love your intentions behind this channel. I want to spend my money wisely and not overconsume just because something is new and shiny. I mostly buy drugstore products and I really love blush and face products. My least used makeup category is eyeshadow since I go for more natural looks. Getting ready and putting on makeup is girl therapy. Sometimes I don’t have anywhere to go but I still experiment with makeup. I love the de-influencing videos because it helps me slow down and realize I probably already have something in my collection that I can use. I also subscribed since I have the same skin tone, hair, and eye color so I can get a feel of how a product will look on me before I buy it. I have been eyeing those Caliray blushes since they are matte and transfer proof! :) I’m going to wait for the 20% off sale tho.
Thank you for all of the support and sharing your positive feedback! So grateful for you. ♥️ Also definitely wait for the sale and choose different colors. I’m not sure I’m happy about the shades I picked - but I love the formula.
I used to love Urban Decay as a brand many years ago when I was uni and always used to buy the all nighter foundation, I must have went through bottles of that. My first eyeshadow palette was also Urban decay born to run and then naked cherry. I have not bought anything from them in years. At the moment I am sticking to what I have so have avoided buying any new makeup unless I run out of something and need a replacement. I love that TirTir fix spray, it's also really affordable
I think your channel I great! I’m new to buying non-drugstore brands and I have normal to oily skin and since you’ve said to have the same it helps a lot! Your reminders to up your viewers also a reminds me not to get to into buying a bunch of makeup just because. You are like the angelic side being like “ you don’t need this right now”
girl, i found your channel like a few weeks ago and i actually really enjoy your content (i haven't been using youtube as much as i used to because now all my favorite youtubers literally bore me)! your content is normally content that i don't really see much and you always make wonderful videos! i rarely comment on youtube videos and i don't know if you are going to see this since this video is 3 weeks old, but i just wanted to say... keep being like this! :)
I have some linked in the description under favorites but I need to update them! I’ll be adding some BK brushes and brushes on the list - been loving them lately.
As a girl with super creasy undereyes, I can confirm that not all concealers are the same. Some crease on me before I even leave the house. It took trying a few to know what works for me, but I'm still searching for the best concealer.
Oh I didn’t mean the formulas were the same literally! I meant they all do the same thing (cover). And if you find one you love that doesn’t crease, any new versions won’t be more groundbreaking. I also struggle with creasing too but realized it was an application problem on me.
It's funny that you mention that you think your channel might give off anxiety, because when you asked the question of what vibes we get, I was just about to comment that your channel gives comfort to me. You have a very soothing way of speaking and I love the chit chaxtty videos. I love the balance you're finding between creativity/playfulness and being mindful about not buying everything out there. I also somehow prefer when regular people give make up advice. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems more attainable than when a professional gives advice?
@ellerchu The blush looked so light in the bottle, but it blends out really pretty on your skin. I love that you mentioned if it would work on deeper skin tones. Very helpful. Thanks!
*Algorithm* for your Algorithm because I'm tired and have zero thoughts in my head other than thank you for playing the background. Hopefully, when I rewatch it with full attention I'll have more thoughts.
I think it’s vital you having the mindset of the audiences you are reaching. Although you are an “influencer” I think if you keep wanting to empathize and place yourself in the position of us as consumers? That’s something very few actually do, because almost all influencers end up getting to a point where they (intentionally or not) end up out of touch with the viewers. Imo the average consumer-especially lower to middle class-IS as critical or even more so than you are! You are just vocalizing the process. So if someone takes issue with you being overly critical about makeup releases? That’s their own issue to reflect upon, because many of these releases are financially entirely out of budget or a splurge for many. Capitalism, even with lipstick on it, is still capitalism. For me, I’m a trans masc that enjoys makeup! However, I also know makeup is a luxury. Capitalism 101 is that businesses are motivated by self interest ($) and the interest of consumers second. So, it’s up to me in the face of that to take the time to be mindful of my motivations as well as these brands. I think you, as an influencer, actually taking a cautious approach to purchases we are CONSTANTLY being told “you need this!” or whatever else they’re pushing to line their own/company pockets is something needed in makeup spaces. And if you keep up this philosophy to your content, you’ll keep my follow thats for sure. There’s nothing wrong with stopping and looking at the bigger picture of yourself and around you, even with makeup/beauty/its standards. I know I’m yapping on now but ultimately? I’m hyper aware of these companies want my $ first and foremost, but I’m also someone who wants to keep myself alive. I can’t eat makeup, but the average person CAN look at the makeup they do have vs what is being pushed and take the time to ask “is this for me? Do I ACTUALLY want it? is this made for me or pushed in MY best interest?” and making a space that does ask those questions is so important now more than ever.
I am so sorry this ended up longer than intended but TLDR I don’t see you as a makeup shit talk channel, you’re just in a space where mass makeup and beauty consumerism is normalized and rarely put into question. Keep it up!
Hi! First, I just really appreciate you being so thoughtful in your comment. I’ll add on that the challenge is also finding the balance between “influencing” and audience especially in beauty. That’s why I prefer the term content creator because it’s less about selling and more about the audience (imo). Overall your comment gives me more to think about and helps me question myself about the future of this channel. Thank you so much! 🥹🫶

I think it looked good initially but after a couple of uses.. I feel I should try the darker shades 🤔
Hey Elle! Love you so much! Hope everyone has a great day/ night! ❤❤❤
I hope you have a great day/night too. Thank you so much for watching. ♥️
Same!! I wore the all nighter foundation all the time between 18-19.
I think your channel I great! I’m new to buying non-drugstore brands and I have normal to oily skin and since you’ve said to have the same it helps a lot! Your reminders to up your viewers also a reminds me not to get to into buying a bunch of makeup just because. You are like the angelic side being like “ you don’t need this right now”
I’m glad I can help you on you high-end makeup journey! Thank you for watching. 🫶
I love your video's, and even though I don't wear a lot of foundation, I love playing around with blush and eyeshadow!
Blush and eyeshadow is the fun part :)
girl, i found your channel like a few weeks ago and i actually really enjoy your content (i haven't been using youtube as much as i used to because now all my favorite youtubers literally bore me)! your content is normally content that i don't really see much and you always make wonderful videos! i rarely comment on youtube videos and i don't know if you are going to see this since this video is 3 weeks old, but i just wanted to say... keep being like this!
:)
Better late then never! I’m honored to be one of the videos you left a comment. Thank you so much for the love and support. ♥️
This was great, you are stunning! 😍💄I’d love to know what your favorite brush recommendations!
I have some linked in the description under favorites but I need to update them! I’ll be adding some BK brushes and brushes on the list - been loving them lately.
love your channel! best vibes!!!
Sick twins!! Your voice sounds so soothinggg
😭 I hope you feel better!
@@ellerchu you too!! and your talk about balance was just *chefs kiss*
That’s so interesting - I know people tend to prefer watching makeup artists of professionals. Either way, I’m happy you find comfort in my content. ✨
i’ve never felt so seen in my life

Love your channel! But by the way which mascara did you use? It looks so good ❤
L’Oréal butterfly waterproof, holy grail!!
I found your channel from Hautemess Tom, love their channel and yours!
Amazing! Welcome 🫶
My blush just came in the mail too. 🎉😊❤
I hope you like it 👀 I’m debating on exchanging for a different shades
@ellerchu The blush looked so light in the bottle, but it blends out really pretty on your skin. I love that you mentioned if it would work on deeper skin tones. Very helpful. Thanks!
Love ur vidzzz ❤
Thank you so much ♥️
Who are your top 5 music artists?
Too many to choose. Lol But for top 3 I’ll say Adele, Billie Eilish and Sabrina Carpenter

*Algorithm* for your Algorithm because I'm tired and have zero thoughts in my head other than thank you for playing the background. Hopefully, when I rewatch it with full attention I'll have more thoughts.
Thankful for you 🫶
My autistic self taking your title literally 💀
It’s understandable 😅
First! 🎉
Actually second, but thank you!!🥈🤭
I think it’s vital you having the mindset of the audiences you are reaching.
I am so sorry this ended up longer than intended but
TLDR I don’t see you as a makeup shit talk channel, you’re just in a space where mass makeup and beauty consumerism is normalized and rarely put into question. Keep it up!
First
Ended up as third, appreciate you!! 🫶🥉
@@ellerchu❤❤
amazing mix of foundation! good coverage
I also like how you show your skin just as it is. very transparent with everything you share in the channel. This is the reason I come back, we all should be conscious about all our purchases and be objective.
thank you for this content Elle 🤍
greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
I didn't even realize I used two foundations until I edited this. 😂 Thank you for watching my videos, it's always appreciated!
One thing that I love about your channel is that every time I click on one of your videos, I can always count on your honest opinion!!! 🩷🩷
Your right 😆
