I’m an engineer and have actually done research into the deep water horizon the problem wasn’t that they didn’t use cement but that they used the wrong grade of cement and also used a separate grade in another part of the well which led to a structural integrity issue. This design was not up to code for modern deep water oil rigs. Had the used the proper materials it would have helped to prevent this as methane gas rising into the wells is relatively common to the pressurized pockets that the oil is in. Also basically everything in our world has a cost analysis done. Essentially this means that if it will cost a company less to make something cheaper they will. This cost also factors in potential pay outs for injury due to a product failing. In other words if it costs them less to pay for your injury or death using something than it does for them to make it properly then they just say fuck it and make it cheap knowing that they save money even if it kills people. Just a bit of inside information for anyone who doesn’t know

This would be proven by the fact that they managed to make £0 from this whole project and the pipe was then closed. They also were held responsible later for financial cost of clean up. Anyone who did those calculations and still said proceed would be in prison right now. Please don't lie or make things up to try and seem smart.

They continuously poisoned the water for over a decade, took advantage of the people’s poor state to not assume liability and ruined the lives of entire generations as well as plant, animal and marine life in the area for decades to come. The worst of it is they had to hardly pay for their actions and unlike other disasters, the people weren’t evacuated or anything
My dad was in Bhopal during the disaster (#4) and he was unable to leave the town before the gas leak was known. He trapped himself in a washroom, flooded the floor, and covered his eyes with a wet washcloth. He was one of the few survivors after waking up from a six-month coma with several layers of his eyes burned off and burns in his lungs. His eyes made a full recovery and his lungs almost fully recovered. To think I was this close to never have been born is just nuts.

That's crazy, and I know the feeling about being lucky to be alive in a similar fashion. Before I was born, my Dad was in a terrible motorcycle accident (wasn't wearing a helmet), and his brain stem at the base of his skull got disconnected from the rest of his brain. He obviously had to be rushed to major surgery, had his brain stem re-connected and a metal plate inserted into his forehead (his forehead is basically just a metal plate now). Apparently doctors told my grandparents he had less than a 20% chance to survive, but miraculously, he survived, and the only real lasting impact he's had (other than having a metal forehead) is that he lost his sense of smell. So in a similar fashion, I'm also incredibly lucky to be here today. Interestingly, he met my Mom while she was taking care of him in the hospital during recovery, so at the same time, I might also not have been here today if this accident had not have happened. It's weird to think about.
I live in Bhopal where Union Carbide disaster occured, the death toll was actually way more than told in the video, Local news reported more than 30000 deaths but the govt tried to cover them up. My mum and dad were also amoung affected even though my dad is fine and healthy my mum is suffering from asthma and rheumatoid arteritis just like hundreds of thousands of other people exposed to MIC.

My dad was in Bhopal (#4) , he always tells me the story of how his parents and relatives manged to catch the bus out of the city but he couldn't. Him and his friends stayed in the city locked in their rooms with windows and doors covered with everything they could manage that night . Also the number of death reported is too low , he tells me how there were not enough space left to burry people so they had to put multiple dead bodies in a single grave .

@@mpgodjr nah mate trust me it's was a lot higher. The local news at the time reported more than 65k people in serious condition in hospitals. And more than 25k deaths. My mom usually took a shortcut through a hospital when she went to school and that morning my mom didn't receive any news of the disaster and so she department for her school as usual but when he entered the hospitals there were dead bodies laid out on the entire floor. There was literally no space for even corpses, the health system of the small town at that time was very overwhelmed so you can imagine even people who were in serious condition to not have made it.

Im from the city bhopal, the one mentioned at 4 and have been to that particular plant which was built scarily near to human residence considering how dangerous it and toxic it was. Its all fine now as the incident happened like 40 yrs ago but the stories that ppl tell are horrifying. Ive heard things like ppl suddenly waking up frm sleep, unable to breathe feel or see and then falling to a helpless death. Crazy how no action was taken against the company and some families have to suffer genetically to this day and in the future cuz of it.

On Deep Water Horizon, the oil rig is several stories above sea level. At that height, jumping into the water is like jumping towards concrete. It's also so high that they can't do traditional lifeboats. A lot of movement on and off the rig is by helicopter.
Also, the settlement money from BP being punished for the oil spill (as they should be) has funded humongous amounts of research in marine science and led to tremendously important new finds. Plus, BP does not have the ability to dictate where the money goes. Because of this, the legacy of the Deep Water Horizon oil spill is more complicated than the simple human, animal, and economic destruction it caused. Some marine scientists feel uncomfortable taking these research grants, but others are glad to see that the punishment BP was given is used to help.

The Halifax explosion should've been in this video. It's the largest man made explosion and it happened during world War 2. 2 boats crashed into each other and one had thousands of bombs on it at the time and it blew up the entire city and people from around the country ad bit of the states could feel the tremors.

I couldn't find an article on this but for some reason I've remembered this since my dad told me this story, there was a plant made not sure what type and this guy comes along and says that they should put a filter on top of the plant which would be a great idea as it could cause a huge problem if they don't so this guys plans were refused for years as it could cost the company millions but then they were accepted and the project was finished years later the plant malfunctioned and the filter saved the planet from a new ice age, a literal ice age which could've wiped out humanity, however to this day the debris and nuclear waste is still being cleaned up, not many people know this story but find it fascinating, if you find an article or something on this please tell me

Yep... the lebanon explosion was nuts indeed.. especially if u were pretty much quite close to it. My parents heard it all the way up in the North of the country...Was a terrifying experience.It's one of those things that you cant really shake. The sound ringing in your ears, the shockwave leaving you shaken, the destruction, the sounds of screaming and absolute chaos outside. And to think that i wasnt originally going to be in Beirut that day, but alas i ended up there to help a friend move. Chernobyl was more of a 'design flaw disaster' there were so many flaws from the reactor itself to the containment building. Accidents were inevitable.

Chernobyl isn’t actually that big of a disaster. Only 30 people died. And some more got cancer. The reason why it is so popular, or seen as such a bad thing, is because it was one of the only (and still is) disasters with radioactive material. And because not many people actually understand radioactivity, they fear it. That’s also why we haven’t gone over on nuclear fuel. Because we’re scared. With the technology we have nowadays, something like Chernobyl would never happen, and it is actually really good for the planet, but nothing goes above the fear of human beings I guess

tbh it was nice hearing about other disasters other than chernobyl as it is relatively overdone. plus it creates a stigma around nuclear power that doesn’t deserve to be there, as it is one of the more safer and cleaner forms of power generation.

So actually im from bhopal and this factory was real close to the Railway Station and before an hour or so my grandpa had came to pick up my uncle at the station and i still hear about the aftermath from him he's safe as he lived quite far away from that area
One of my teacher was in that same train I guess, his train was Mumbai to Delhi. It just pase an hour or 2 before the incident, he learnt about the incident when he reached Delhi. That day his life changed, knowing how close he was to death.

He obviously had to be rushed to major surgery, had his brain stem re-connected and a metal plate inserted into his forehead (his forehead is basically just a metal plate now). Apparently doctors told my grandparents he had less than a 20% chance to survive, but miraculously, he survived, and the only real lasting impact he's had (other than having a metal forehead) is that he lost his sense of smell. So in a similar fashion, I'm also incredibly lucky to be here today.
Interestingly, he met my Mom while she was taking care of him in the hospital during recovery, so at the same time, I might also not have been here today if this accident had not have happened. It's weird to think about.
I live in Bhopal where Union Carbide disaster occured, the death toll was actually way more than told in the video, Local news reported more than 30000 deaths but the govt tried to cover them up. My mum and dad were also amoung affected even though my dad is fine and healthy my mum is suffering from asthma and rheumatoid arteritis just like hundreds of thousands of other people exposed to MIC.

My dad was in Bhopal (#4) , he always tells me the story of how his parents and relatives manged to catch the bus out of the city but he couldn't. Him and his friends stayed in the city locked in their rooms with windows and doors covered with everything they could manage that night . Also the number of death reported is too low , he tells me how there were not enough space left to burry people so they had to put multiple dead bodies in a single grave .

My mom usually took a shortcut through a hospital when she went to school and that morning my mom didn't receive any news of the disaster and so she department for her school as usual but when he entered the hospitals there were dead bodies laid out on the entire floor. There was literally no space for even corpses, the health system of the small town at that time was very overwhelmed so you can imagine even people who were in serious condition to not have made it.

Im from the city bhopal, the one mentioned at 4 and have been to that particular plant which was built scarily near to human residence considering how dangerous it and toxic it was. Its all fine now as the incident happened like 40 yrs ago but the stories that ppl tell are horrifying. Ive heard things like ppl suddenly waking up frm sleep, unable to breathe feel or see and then falling to a helpless death.
Crazy how no action was taken against the company and some families have to suffer genetically to this day and in the future cuz of it.

I couldn't find an article on this but for some reason I've remembered this since my dad told me this story, there was a plant made not sure what type and this guy comes along and says that they should put a filter on top of the plant which would be a great idea as it could cause a huge problem if they don't so this guys plans were refused for years as it could cost the company millions but then they were accepted and the project was finished years later the plant malfunctioned and the filter saved the planet from a new ice age, a literal ice age which could've wiped out humanity, however to this day the debris and nuclear waste is still being cleaned up, not many people know this story but find it fascinating, if you find an article or something on this please tell me

Yep... the lebanon explosion was nuts indeed.. especially if u were pretty much quite close to it. My parents heard it all the way up in the North of the country...Was a terrifying experience.It's one of those things that you cant really shake. The sound ringing in your ears, the shockwave leaving you shaken, the destruction, the sounds of screaming and absolute chaos outside. And to think that i wasnt originally going to be in Beirut that day, but alas i ended up there to help a friend move. Chernobyl isn’t actually that big of a disaster. Only 30 people died. And some more got cancer. The reason why it is so popular, or seen as such a bad thing, is because it was one of the only (and still is) disasters with radioactive material. And because not many people actually understand radioactivity, they fear it. That’s also why we haven’t gone over on nuclear fuel. Because we’re scared. With the technology we have nowadays, something like Chernobyl would never happen, and it is actually really good for the planet, but nothing goes above the fear of human beings I guess

tbh it was nice hearing about other disasters other than chernobyl as it is relatively overdone. plus it creates a stigma around nuclear power that doesn’t deserve to be there, as it is one of the more safer and cleaner forms of power generation.

@@lewisgilbertson7506 Chernobyl and then closer to our times Fukushima gives nuclear power plants a bad name. Chernobyl for incompetence and the suppression if information and Fukushima for basically being built on and island that sits on was it 4 tectonic plates where earthquakes aren't unusual.
The fact these two are used as exa.ples is beyond baffling. It's like building a city next to a volcano that is famous for wiping out cities in the past... oh wait.

So actually im from bhopal and this factory was real close to the Railway Station and before an hour or so my grandpa had came to pick up my uncle at the station and i still hear about the aftermath from him he's safe as he lived quite far away from that area
One of my teacher was in that same train I guess, his train was Mumbai to Delhi. It just pase an hour or 2 before the incident, he learnt about the incident when he reached Delhi. That day his life changed, knowing how close he was to death.
