The main thing Star Wars movies have often left out is going deeper into the force and the cultures that exist within this universe. This episode going into both of those more than a lot of Star Wars stories is probably why it’s my favorite Visions episode. Plus, Kevin Penkin and Emi Evans certainly don’t hurt.

    • @NoobNoobNews

It also handles the personal aspect of the force. How many times have you heard "may the force be with you" and not feel anything? And then how did you feel when you heard her say it? There is a weight to the personal aspect of what the force means to a person. What being a Jedi is. Codes and oaths are great, but what about reason? What about why?
This was a journey of the heart as much as a tour through another culture... if not more. She followed her Jedi code and refused to interfere... but then abandoned the code to become a true Jedi. She found purpose where previously had none. It is beautiful.

I also love the Taoist influence in this episode. The force does take some inspiration from Taoism and my in head cannon. I think this one is my favorite - a lot of people seem to prefer the Ninth Jedi (which is also good) but something about this one - the music, the setting, the village's culture (I love learning about other Force traditions), the interpresonal relationships, F's background, the animation, the pacing...even though the story itself isn't particularly unique and not even that action packed, the whole thing just hit several sweet spots and just felt like a dream in some places. I want to know more about F, and I also felt even in the few seconds we get with them that the relationship between the couple was really sweet and affectionate.

The Village Bride is one of my favorite shorts from _Star Wars Visions_ and my number #1 favorite from Visions, with Ninth Jedi as a close second.
I enjoyed the short not just for its animation, but also the story, the philosophy of the Force and it's characters where the main character (F) tries not to reveal most of her Identity after she remains in hiding following Order 66 and stepping in to save the day to rescue Haru and Saku from Lord Izuma.
But the biggest highlight that made me love this short was for the soundtrack that can be warm, quiet, emotional, majestic and epic. Kevin Penkin who composed the music of this short has worked on several video games and anime such as Made in Abyss, _Tower of God_ and recently Netflix's _Eden_ so I give big props to Kevin for the score and especially Emi Evans who provided the vocals in this episode as I got emotional listening to her voice in several scenes throughout the episode.
Also, the voice of the Masked Female Jedi is Karen Fukuhara who is best known as Kipo from _"Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts"_ and Glimmer from Netflix's _"She-Ra and the Princesses of Power"_ plus Matthew Wood came to reprise his roles as the Battle Droids in his only Anime dub.
I do hope we get to see more of the Masked Female Jedi (F) in a potential Anime series very soon, besides just _Ninth Jedi_
Looking forward to your reaction to the one everyone is looking forward to: _The Ninth Jedi._

I agree, this is my favorite too, and the music/atmosphere is a huge part of why, along with some of the exploration of F's journey and the philosophy of the Force. I also really enjoyed the Elder for the same reason- it's actually the quieter moments that I enjoy. (On the other hand, I also loved The Twins simply because it was so insane and I liked the alternate take on the twins/Force dyad and using Sith manipulation to create them, and yet one is still trying to break away)

I love whenever the different cultures' way of perceiving what we call the 'force' is shown. This short in particular is just really good at packing a whole story into the runtime, one of the most satisfying standalone ones here.

I love all of the ways that they depict not only the Force, but also how it shows the way that noble sacrifice for her family is benevolent and likely would have worked. Then that falls apart when her sibling and the other kids try to rebel and it almost does the opposite of what she wanted, despite them having the correct reason in trying to break the system of oppression, rather than enable it. That emphasizes the REASON for the Jedi needing to come in and intervene, which is why I love this one so much.

I really like the planet's memories piece.
The first time I watched it, I missed that the mountains shifting happened sometime between the couple being kids and them being married. They were witnessing the event via memory.
When the couple was approaching the temple as the wedding ritual, there is already a giant chasm, but in the memory, the kids are building a fish run to allow the fish to swim upstream because the land and river could still reach the temple going upstream. They change the river rocky by rock, to help nature complete the cycle.
That chasm is created by the Separatists and other bandit gang disrespecting the planet and stripping the resources, and it had happened in the last 10-20 years.
The fish can no longer get to the source of the river. That ancestral connection is broken for a part of nature, caused by the Separatists. But the villagers still try and keep the balance with Magina and the planet by doing the ritual back at the source of the river.

  • @fgs612
    @fgs612 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

A very funny thing if you actually caught the reference was that the ship that the Separatists arrived on the planet with was actually the same design of the Smuggler's ship from SWTOR. And if you've played a Smuggler in that game, you know how much shit that ship has gone through, so this is just another bump along the ride for her.

*_Lop & Ocho_* was the other one that I liked as much as those other two, because of how well this one and the other really leaned in to the decisions to side with or against the Empire for the greater good of everyone else being a really tough and ideologically divisive decision.
In this, her sister being the sacrifice for their grandfather was a noble call, and without a Jedi was their only realistic option to keep the others from killing them. It's unpleasant, but is what you have to do at times without adequate power. With a Jedi, they are able to overcome the oppression and save everyone so it shows the importance of using power when you have it to end oppression.
That's the same conflict in Lop & Ocho, but that one goes fully in to JUST how deeply it divides people against those they love when you have to choose one of those two paths to safety, and the other means needless death. It's the same reason why the ploy in the Ninth Jedi is so important to make sure they know who they can and can't trust.

I wonder if people noticed that the bride and his husband were planning to kill themselves with the ward lord. In the scene inside their house shows the thermal bomb they would use in the act. Them you can notice the husband is using the backpack carrying the bomb in the encounter. I only noticed that in the second time I watched.
