Mother Gothel gave her enough love that she was very hesitant to leave her while still sprinkling in enough insults and cruelty that Rapunzel would have too much self hatred to believe she could survive on her own. It’s not just about being called chubby. It’s about the motive behind it

the guy at 0:38 is the protagonist from the manga 'Berserk'. It's an amazing story and the MC has gone through some insane stuff. Born from a corpse, he was sold by his father figure to be r@ped as a child (age of 9) for a mere 3 silver pieces, murdered his r@pist and father figure in revenge, finally trusted someone enough to give him everything he was and that person killed all of their friends and r@ped his pregnant lover in front of him, killing their would-be child in the process. Oh, and if that’s not bad enough he gets pursued by demons every night, killing anyone he gets close to for years.

Literally Magnifico, THE VILLAIN OF THE MOVIE, has felt more pain than Asha. Like all she ever whined about is her grandpa’s wish but Magnifico has to endure all his hard work for his kingdom go down, and even his wife turned her back on him for WHAT?!
Magnifico isn't a villain. He created an utopia that's also free from any kind of danger. All while having a monthly event where he could grant anyone's wish (as long as it's not dangerous) using his own magic

I know, it just hit me a few days ago watching the beginning of it, how emotionally brutal it is for a kids' movie. The events of the first 5 minutes alone are enough to leave a parent with permanent emotional scars. Then, years later, despite Marlin's paranoid and extreme efforts to the protect the ONE surviving member of his family apart from himself, Nemo gets kidnapped, leading Marlin on a chase that spans several days, only to leave him believing that his son is dead near the end. "Please don't go away! I don't want to forget." "I'm sorry, Dory, but I do." ... ... Yeah, Marlin is not a bad candidate for "name a character who went through more pain, I'll wait."

pretty much all the ninja have gone through more pain than her Kai and Nya both lost their parents at childhood and were forced to work for their kidnappers just to get them back individually, Kai lost his sister at one point and then lost his powers and felt useless for a good part of the season and was forced to betray his friends to make sure a plan worked, Nya had to merge with the sea and couldn't touch land because she'd just fall apart if she wasnt in contact with water for too long Cole lost his beloved mother due to an illness and his father tried forcing him to become a dancer at one point (though they made amends later on) but was then tortured in a way by the Skull Sorcerer and forced to duke it out alone in the middle of a gigantic cave system under a mountain for a short amount of time, not to mention the fact that he was turned into a ghost and was just barely able to become human again Zane lost his memories completely, figured out he was a robot and his father died, then was brought back to life and forced to work for them, then he died again at some point and sacrificed himself, tearing him apart before being rebuilt with his memories wiped yet again, found out the love of his life was scrapped as well, trapped in an alternate dimension, forced under the control of a forbidden spell for decades yet again with his memory wiped (jesus, zane can never catch a break with his memory being wiped) Jay didnt know he was adopted until he was in his late teens, figured out he was actually the son of a very popular actor, watched Nya die before being resurrected by a time reversal, watched the other ninja die in a video game before they were also resurrected, had to compete with Cole for Nya at one point because of a machine saying Nya and Cole would fit better as a match, and was once turned into a snake and then Lloyd you pretty much summed up
Shadow's pain was seeing his best friend get shot right in front of him, discovering that he was nothing but a weapon of pure mass destruction to be used, getting hit with the classic "Are my memories real?" and most off all, probably was supposed to end the world alongside Black doom. Yet he's still someone who cares about the world and it's people, in Maria's words "Give them a chance to be happy!" Wish made me want to die. I actually thought i was gonna like the characters, specially Asha's character writing at some times.
So agreed on Grunkle Stan. I mean, he went through the grief of: being deemed a worthless buffoon, being disowned by his own family, becoming a runaway, becoming an outlaw as a direct result and, worst of all, the brother he once was close-knit to now hates his guts and held a grudge towards him for a solid decade. Then, even worse, they have one final argument which ended with Stan accidentally sending Ford into another dimension, and the rift between them became even worse with their relationship being in a horrid, piteous state. Not to mention that when the twins found out what he was hiding from them, his relationship with them came this close to getting strained as well. It's little wonder Stan came off as bitter in some occasions when you get to know all the heartache he went through. The heartbreak in his voice and face when he asked Mabel if she really thought that he was bad... damn...

So agreed on Grunkle Stan. I mean, he went through the grief of: being deemed a worthless buffoon, being disowned by his own family, becoming a runaway, becoming an outlaw as a direct result and, worst of all, the brother he once was close-knit to now hates his guts and held a grudge towards him for a solid decade. Then, even worse, they have one final argument which ended with Stan accidentally sending Ford into another dimension, and the rift between them became even worse with their relationship being in a horrid, piteous state. Not to mention that when the twins found out what he was hiding from them, his relationship with them came this close to getting strained as well. It's little wonder Stan came off as bitter in some occasions when you get to know all the heartache he went through. The heartbreak in his voice and face when he asked Mabel if she really thought that he was bad... damn...
