Here's a TIP for all you cassette 🗣️s (I'm one ALSO), if you have new tapes or older ones you've bought at a garage sale or thrift store, do this to extend the life of your recording console (your deck) and also save yourself a LOT of time: keep your eyes peeled for a bulk eraser and here's WHY, when you hit a new or used tape with an eraser, you get a LOWER noise floor, it cleeans up an old tape of anything recorded on it before, makes a new one even QUIETER and you really find out just how WELL your deck performs! When shopping for a unit, i personally prefer direct drive decks to avoid belts that eventually wear out and wow and flutter is always lower. Even if you find a DD that has issues, if it'll play but needs an idler wheel or pinch roller(s) replacement (common), it's STILL worth it! You guys ❤️ cassette decks like I do and I grew up in a time when I saw them improve, from the first SORRY ASS Sony under-dash car stereo decks, to the SMOKIN' ASS Alpine in-dash, Concord and Nakamichi units of the late 70's into the 80's that took NO PRISONERS, these people weren't FLOCKIN' AROUND, they DIDN'T build decks for the faint-at-heart, their units made your "deck" HARDER than Japanese chemistry 😆! Believe it or not guys, there's a DEMAND right NOW for these cassettes because there's a wave of Idie music lovers, who've discovered these and other analog devices (turntables TOO and I know about them also), they're HUNGRY for them! I by any means DON'T claim to be an expert but, I've seen my share of gear, I'm still passionate about audio, I've got a gang of stuff and I'm open to share what I know with others who are too and learn something from them ALSO! Let me know what you guys think!✋
well true though but 30 minutes or 46 minutes is either for single or possibly spoken douglas fir cassette tape thing which I need to find chrome high bias type ii tapes though. well the other 30 minutes for each side is actually 60 minutes for sounds or something while 45 minutes each side is 90 minutes for albums or compilations too. if it's ux uxc or pro or cd it type ii or gig type ii though.
HF60 distortion sounds like it was caused by a stiff pressure pad. Essentially the tape rubs against the pad like a finger rubbing on a balloon, and the squealing can even be heard in the deck itself without the volume up. I've heard it on a few older pre-recorded tapes that had been stored badly. The solution would be to use a pointed object like a pin to "fluff" the pad by gently scratching on it.
Look, let me explain something to you, if you think for a second the quality of these tapes have degraded, then Sony wouldn't still be making and selling them by the bricks and you also might want to dump your 70's cassette deck. As a matter of fact, if you've got some old Sony tapes, come up with a price and I'll buy them from you! I have a few high performance decks (Studer Revox, Nakamichi and a Technics that'll EASILY rival with an open reel) and ALL of them will SMOKE these tapes something SERIOUS! I get such great results with these tapes, I barely even use my type II's and I have a GANG of those! I have some older ones and I've yet to have one mess up on me! If you tecord with Dolby on (peaks not exceeding the DD sign), then play back with Dolby off, the playback level will exceed the DD sign with no distortion whatsoever! For not a lot of 💰, these tapes are phenomenal and those Mexell UR's can hold their OWN also!😳
I fell in love with the HF´s in 1986.
And it`s still growing! ;-)

Oh okay, I see. Thanks for the tip, I might actually make that the topic of this week's video if you don't mind :p
24:11 new old stock tape
Where do you get these rare HFS 😮😮😮
Facebook Marketplace usually. I also live near Japan, so it's easy to import from Yahoo Auctions
@@ARandomOven Lucky I’m in the US although there are some cool blanks that Japan has
Don't stop video about cassette!
Don't worry, I won't :)
Imo the 1988-1992 blanks are the best versions
