What a beautiful piece of time that John shared with us, so painful to hear he peeled off each scars of each stage of his life. The holding back tears when he sang annie's song, the yearning for love, the care for the humanity. He is such a gentle soul, wish he could live to see how much he is loved and missed. Ray did a fantastic job with the interview, one of the best memories.❤

I was 21 years old and a fly fishing guide in Alaska. I took John and Cassandra and his daughter Anna Kate fishing on the Newhalen river. We were instructed not to bother our guests with photos or autographs but i wanted so bad to tell him about my hero. My big brother died flying army helicopters and he had every John Denver album. One time he drove into the farmyard in his 69 firebird with his eight track playing “hey it’s good to be back home again”.
I wanted to tell him how after he died my mom would sit and cry and play those albums over and over. I wish I had told him that. Not long after he died flying and my mom called to tell me, she was so sad it broke my heart.
I’m still here in Alaska John and I fly almost every day. I hope you are too.

What a shame you didn't tell him your story of your Brother, I'm sure he would've said something kind in return. But a lovely memory of special songs that reminds you of family.

That sure is sad. To bad people can’t have that same feeling for what our lord and savior did for us I’ll never see a person cry these days for what he did for us. It’s a whole lot more than some album.

I got to see him perform with the utah symphony in Park City in the 90s. Grew up listening to my parents record of him. Incredible singer,, he never sung a note wrong amd incredible range. My biggest regret is not going after and trying to get his autograph and shaking his hand. Often we dont recognize the greatness of certain individuals until they are gone from the world. He was indeed a special entertainer.

I miss John. The world is emptier without him. No one speaks for the earth anymore. I’m not sure he would recognize our world. Regardless of his flaws he did more good than a thousand people could. He would be in his late 79s now but at least his voice would still be heard.

Thanks for sharing this and celebrating his classics on this day 25 years after his death. Miss this man and his song writing and new music from him. This put me in a John Denver mood again. He died too young. Sad his music gets more recognition in country music his classics after his death. Nobody can sings them better then John Denver himself. Glad I got to see him in concert 2 times. One was very special graduation gift from my parents to take me to my first John Denver concert in 1980. The youth today do not know talent like John Denver. God's peace John, ex wives and his kids and not knowing his grandkids.

Man I miss this man. He was a once in a lifetime phenomenon that will never cross this way again. I was stationed at Fort Ord, California in the late 80’s early 90’s, the area that John’s plane went down was were I would go and sit and watch the sun set. I had left before the accident, and I am so glad I was. It would have killed me to find out that my all time favorite singer was killed at my favorite site to watch the sun go down. I was at home in Texas when the news was reported on CNN in fact, all I could do was sit down and cry. His loss was like the loss of a close family member. To this day I will sometimes break down and weep. He was one hell of a man, and watching this program I know will cause me to breakdown.

I used to listen to john denver going on holiday to the sea side in the back of Mum's old yellow escort, on a tape player, but I hadn't really bothered for 30 years, then I found him again until I got a laptop, and there were all the songs again, and I remembered every lyric and every pause, and I even.remembered which songs were on which albums and in which order!
    I never stopped listening again!

A friend of mine has his pilots license -- and he bought a plane - one day when i was visiting he took me to see his plane and then asked if i would like to go up -- i said yes -- he was very thorough as he prepped for the flight -- once we were in the air i said to myself "what the hell was i thinking?" -- it is not like being on a commercial jet --you can feel so much on a small private plane if there is wind gusts etc -- i felt if one thing mechanically goes wrong i am a dead man -- i did not say any of this to my friend - but once we were up in the air and had levelled off he said that was more cloudy then anticipated and that he was going to head back and land and "did i mind?" I cooly said no problem. That was the first and last time i would fly on a private plane. I was happy when my friend sold the plane seeing as he had five children, two of them still small. RIP John Denver a great talent and an amazing human being so full of life and vitality, taken way before his time.

My Fav Songwriter & Singer. Sometime in 1990 while I was working in Aramco in KSA as a Design Draftsman in the Community Maintenance Division, i happen to buy in the garage sale a used John Denver's Cassette Tape & immediately fall in love with all the songs on it especially Annie's Song which me & my girlfriend that time back home made it as our Theme Song.even bought a saudi owned/used acoustic guitar so i can play all the songs especially Annie's Song..i'm almost 62 years now & still playing all those JD's songs esp our theme song which i passed on to my son who's now a senior college student in his early twenties. Remembering those Saudi experience especially stumbling of JD's song thru that old cassette tape still Feels up my Senses..I kept the tape & i know it's still in my house just misplaced somewhere together with my old personal effects but oneday, i hope to find it & safekeep for good..What a Nostalgia..

So many of us loved John and miss him! He’s with our maker now, it’s just too much to think of losing him, breaks my heart. He was a talented songwriter and singer. He deserved so much more than he got. I’m just grateful I grew up in the era where I got to hear his songs often. I can’t believe it’s been 23 years since the senseless tragedy that took him from us, oh John John John, we sure could use someone like you here with us now.....you are so missed and loved all these years later. I play all your songs and reminisce of wonderful times past, I smile, I cry, I remember you.... Heaven is sure blest to have you there. I can just picture you hanging out on a cloud with your guitar, observing us here on earth, and having you strum your guitar, then singing songs recalling your time on earth. It was just too short buddy, wish you were with us still. I love you John Denver! Always will! 💕💞💖

What an absolute treasure to find, for any John Denver fan! This was a wonderful, realistic look, into an under-rated, American Icon. And he truly is. His songwriting ability, is second to none. But his VOICE. I've never heard another male voice, more pure, so pitch-perfect, with his range.
He accomplished so much, yet, the way the record industry was at the time, they STOLE so much from him- and it hurt him, as well. PC, even then, but this time, against what they thought was a "Nature freak environmentalist".
What John Denver REALLY was? Was an Outdoorsman. Period. ALL Outdoorsmen love the environment. We just don't go insane over it- and we follow ACTUAL science and data- NOT made up BS, created by "Models", which are only as accurate as the information the person inputting it is. And if THEY have an agenda? The Model will have one, as well.
John's "Environmentalism"? WAS REAL. Not "obsessed". So one aspect of the industry held him at arms length for that, and the other half, held him at arms length, because he SPOKE his love, for all he LOVED. For too many, that was "too much, touchy-feely"-type of music.
I thought it was incredible. And I was right.

There is a man who came to our church a few years ago who sang & played the guitar wrote Gospel songs to the tune of JOHN Denver's music. They were very beautiful. He said he also goes to schools and sings & plays a guitar to these songs to the children using these songs to witness to the LORD. He said John Denver received JESUS as his SAVIOUR before he died. This man was a singer in bars in some big town and one night as he stepped out the door of a bar drunk, an elderly woman grabbed his arm with a cane and told him about JESUS and he received JESUS in his heart and was saved. He said he never sang in a bar again but went around singing and witnessing and winning souls for the LORD! I do not remember his name. I wish I did. I would buy his records if I could but I don't even know if he made any. He told me about John Denver's salvation because I told him that every time I think of John Denver, I would pray that he had his salvation and that someday I would hear him singing in heaven.

Sharon here: How I miss his spirit, his voice. How I loved listening to him, feeling what he felt when he wrote each song. It is painful to know now how very lonely he was, and how depressed at times. I've known in my heart that his last flight was no accident, as he was too fine a pilot. Soar among the clouds, John. I don't know that you'll ever read this Sharon or anyone else for that matter. I never met John but my golly I knew him. Started in 1970 I learned every single song he ever wrote. My family never stopped me they always wanted me to sing every song I could. When John left us it destroyed me and I was so broken just like so many others especially for you and all of his family. The man lived and dreamed and the soared but he was human and he had strong strong feelings. I could feel what he felt every time I would hear him sing and every time I would sing his songs. I'm only 63 but I can tell you this much, his music may be the man I am today. And that is a very good thing.

John Denver was very Unique. I learned to become 1 with nature through his music. God created a magnificent world 4 us to live in. It's alive & we are a part of it. He inspired John is a very special way to share that creation with the world. To teach people how devastating it is to destroy this beuitiful earth & the wildlife. I'll be forever greatful 4 what his music does 4 me & what it has done 4 the awareness of earth conservation. His music will live forever. But this world lost the most precious creator of such beuitiful music that no one has close to creating. He will be forever missed. 🌲🕊😢

In 1992, at the Windstar Symposium, I talked to John outside the Music Tent for about 10 minutes. I was there as a volunteer that year in the first aid tent. I showed John my hot pink stethoscope and asked him if he could guess whose it was…and having known John for many years, I knew he would not guess mine. Now if I had shown him a new baby he would have guessed mine immediately since he knew I already had 7 children and he had met most of them….but a stethoscope?…..no. So when I told him it was mine, he looked surprised for sure. I had gone back to school and become a Texas State Certified Emergency Technician. I told him how much his song, “Higher Ground” had meant to me and how many times I had listened to it letting the meaning sink in…how because of that song at age 42 I had gone back to school to prove that I could…and did. John put his arms around me and hugged me really tight. When he pulled back and looked down at me, he had tears running down his cheeks and his eyes were filled with tears. He smiled as his lips trembled and he said, “Thank you…you don’t know how much knowing that means to me.” I was lucky enough to get to know John pretty well over the many years that I knew him. We had a number of personal conversations which is the reason why I have always felt that John was a special human being, such a good, honest, caring, personable man. His leaving us in 1997, at the same age that I lost my oldest son 3 years ago, was a tragedy beyond measure…in both cases. I miss John and my son…so much. Both good caring men who had much left to do in this world. RIP John…and RIP Rick, my dearest firstborn child. Someday…someday….I pray that I will see you both again.

I miss John so much. I have gone to Aspen and met his family after he passed away. I took many photos and loved his family. It was fun meeting people from all over the world who loved John as much as I do. I met (kinda) in McDonald's in St.Petersburg, FL. He was in town to do a concert and his limo pulled in and he jumped out and I came face to face with John Denver!! A little boy ran up and John gave him his full attention and I just left. What a fool I was!! I saw him in concert and then he was gone. I will miss him forever 😭

I'm still deeply sad he has gone from this earth. He shaped my music from a very early age and touched my life environmentally as much as my other hero, my Natal Parks Board Warden father who played a very large part in protecting the now iSimangaliso Wetland Heritage Site from dune mining. I miss them so deeply and pay tribute in playing his music to as many audiences as I can. There is one in October I'm deeply grateful to be part of.

I started listening to John Denver when I was 13 years old. I still listen to him today at 65. He was my hero back then and his music and singing brought me through some hard times. An Evening With John Denver and Aerie are my two favorite albums of his. Some of the songs on his album Aerie were Starwood In Aspen, Casey’s Last Ride, Friends With You, All of My Memories, Blow Up Your TV. And The Eagle and the Hawk. He may be gone however his music still lives on. ❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing this video

Oh my, how fab was that. Thank you so much Wayne for posting this. I have spent most of today listening to JD's music and films, commerating the 16th Anniversary of his passing. I was so bowled over by the last song, 'Is it Love?'. I have heard it many times and have looked for a video of him actually singing it, but to no avail, until now! Imagine my surprise and joy. Thank you, thank you so very much Wayne. Miss JD so much. There's no one like him now, and probably will never be again.

Wonderful video. Thank you for posting. One of the most marvellous musical evenings I ever spent was at Wonderland, near Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Just John and his several guitars. Brilliant performance. When I consider the environmental dangers of the present, I wish he was here to sing.....

@maggie deveney.Just saw this video & your post tonight. Was also @ this Wonderland concert. A full 2-3 hrs of John performing solo; mild rain began falling, but he soldiered on under the huge tent covering. Initially was surprised that no band or musical accompaniment to John's guitars; made me better appreciate his voice, his guitar playing and his well known audience rapport; - a truly unforgettable performance.
