There is greater risk of damaging your car electronics by using this method due to electrical surges when disconnecting and reconnecting the batteries and fire hazard as we just saw. I have worked for Lexus which is same as Toyota and I can tell you that you can turn off your engine and disconnect the old battery and connect a new one safely. The memory for throttle body is stored in the ECU for all Toyota cars. I have changed many batteries with the engine off with zero issues. Mercedes, BMW and Audi however will need battery programming. Toyota is just a simple brand of cars and does not need all that.
OK, later in the video you corrected your positive/negative ID. Good Job! If I have a portable battery booster can I clamp its terminals to the positive/negative connectors as they come off to maintain the car's memory? It seems that does the same job as running the engine.
NO. I had my new battery ready, started the Hilander, loosen the connections, protected the positive line from touching any metal, removed the old battery, connected the wires and secured them and everything has been running well without having to reset any systems.
Replaced my wife's with the car running in a Sam's club parking lot with a Duracell 24F 752cca. You don't need an AGM battery or a Toyota battery from the dealer either. Just make sure the terminal clamps are tucked and never near each other. Some people say you don't need to have the car running and doing that is pointless. I guess I didn't want to risk it since I was in a parking lot and not at home.
I use a memory aid for connect and disconnecting batteries that you might find helpful...Of course everyone knows that rubber protects you from electricity...RBBR (Rubber) Connect (R)ed then (B)lack disconnect (B)lack then (R)ed.
Dude you came very close to causing a spark with the ratchet wrench when you were tightening the positive side. If that metal bar on the ratchet wrench touched the negative side then big spark.
@@andyg7213 now u have!!! And there’s nothing wrong with that when ur battery blows fuse. Main flud it’s just like disconnected from car and when ur battery is bad dosent hold charge it’s the same thing better yet worst because it’s making the alternator work super harder to charge it when it’s not even holding the power anyways Now u have
The idle memory for all Toyotas is stored in the ECU and resets to factory values when battery is disconnected for a long period. The car's ECU will always adjust according to conditions and relearns the idle revs. If you want to know more check this video from another reputable mechanic. th-cam.com/video/3B-a8WJtd8w/w-d-xo.html

Ok we will see on next car I do and let’s see how the start up is after battery change
I have a 2019 highlander with the start stop feature. Could I replace the battery myself or is there specific steps that a dealer needs to take?

Yupp I do this on Germen cars
Thanks for your video and information. Today I replaced the battery while the car was running. I learned from you.
Nice job!!!
Did you use a car memort thing?
NO. I had my new battery ready, started the Hilander, loosen the connections, protected the positive line from touching any metal, removed the old battery, connected the wires and secured them and everything has been running well without having to reset any systems.
Everything goes well if done carefully. The car runs better and all the settings are as they were before.
INCORRECTLY stated that that Positive was Negative, and that Negative was Positive
When I talk fast it could have been mixed up remember 100s thing a are going through my mind and even the thought of loosing memory I tried my best

Nice good job!!!
What size of bolt was the bracket bolt that connected to the suv ?? I lost mine when I last changed the wives battery
10mm I believe I don’t have exact sizes
Do i need to reset the battery age in the ECU when replacing the battery?
No
Great video look forward to more 2017 highlander videos
Nice! Thanks
No problem!

I will do video on memory saver
Is it AGM battery or EFB original from Toyota
I will check that irs not agm

Thank u will pay attention to this down the road
Not to criticize RB but the RED terminal is positive and the BLACK terminal is negative. Am I wrong on this? You said the reverse.
Yeah some time I talk fast
Can I disconnect the battery with my car not running? My car doesn't start at all
If it’s completly dead no jucey in the battery at all. Then yes cuz it already lost memory
my car is 2015 highlander, could you please let me the Battery Part No?
That’s somthing I don’t have parts on the place that u go buy it from will tell u exactly what group size u need most likely it will be same
You left the car running? Could you tell me why?
The throttle dosent loose idle memory it’s only for not loosing memory u can use back up power if u don’t wanna do it this way
@@RBTheMechanic I have never seen someone change a battery with the car running lol…
