Can you make a video how you connect your gear and how you can manipulate the sound from your gear through your daw, I have analog equipment but just for tracking I don’t know how to mix from my analog gear
Great video man! Though I love KT stuff, (eqp is amazing) the 2a is swapped for a Warm audio unit and I wouldnt go back. It adds a but more weight to the sound. Swapped mine and wouldnt go back!
I use this set up tracking vocals.. a lot of people trash the Klarks cause they cheap but they sound very decent.. if you can't afford the high end stuff these tools can get you some quality as long as you don't push them to hard.. from my experience they don't have the headroom to be pushed like more expensive gear but they sound clean...one more thing is some engineers don't know how to gain stage these units and that could be the reason why they say the units are not good..anyways good video!!
Have to say that the Klark Teknik gear looks amazing and great build quality. I have both the 76-KT and recently got the 2A-KT and love it. Also have a Warm Audio WA73-EQ that sounds good but build quality not on the same standard as Klark Teknik. Sold my two Klark EPQ-KT's for thinking no need but regret it and will buy it again.
Klark Teknik hardware always sounds like it adds this weird distortion in the mids. It sounds more like radio station compression rather than clear, creamy, studio-grade preamps and compression.
I'm sorry but i would hardly recommend to dial in your settings while listening to the whole track so you know if the vocal is upfront (compressed) enough and how the eq is making it fit with the rest...
Out of curiosity so are you reamping the vocals through this rig? How do you do that if that's what you're doing? (Are you bypassing the preamp if that's the case? Wouldn't that be a loss?) Sorry not big into reamping. Also curious since you are doing what looks like full processing on the way in with the Limiting then Compression and EQ, are you doing ANY processing in post?? That also ties into my first question about reamping. Sorry I'm the multiple questions guy lol
so what I do for their vocals whenever they send me their work is I'll run their dry vocals through the Avalon to get some pre saturation ( I didn't for this song) then I'll run the signal from the avalon into my other rack equipment and then take that signal and finish in the box. I have other stuff I do in my DAW which I plan on making a video for soon. Stay tuned!
Same bro they’re soo amazing! Instant results you can hear just from cutting 60-100hz and boosting 8-10khz. In love with this thing! I recently switched to the audient id22 so I could bypass the preamps on the interface
TyTheProdigy thinking’s of getting that interface to do the same but gonna keep the Apollo as well so I can use the plugins. I’m only able to run my master bus to 3-4 going to 2 klark eq’s and warm audio bus compressor on the Apollo cause my monitors are using the other channel. I wanna be able to process single channels as well like u. I have a warm audio wa76 I want to utilize when mixing. I use it when recording
I like the 76 but tbh you have to have both the 2a and the 76 2a is a leveling amplifier meaning it amplifies the signal as it suggests and it reduces the peaks with the reduction knob which gives you a very smooth sound although be it very audible dullness to the clarity which isn't bad at all to say just saying that it can be pushed to the extremes that being said the 2a is different that the 76 being that the 76 is more adjustable in terms of attack and release I prefer this unit more because it has audible compression to it when you shape it correctly and I like my compressors to squash my sound but in a way that dosn't sound muddy which is more than likely what anyone who wants a modern trap, rap, hip-hop, reggaeton sound is looking to accomplish you want a big full sound and thats what this helps achive along with a good preamp I gotta thank ty the prodigy i'm buying the klark Teknic comp and eq now that is on promo for $7/mo i'm gonna try to find a used avalon 737sp and throw a manley refrence mic on it or maybe get a place holder mic for now like the wa8000c or the wau47 micrphone both sound really good i've had tlm 103 before but... idk i'd have to hear what it sounds like with the avalone i hear thats a good mic to pair with it but i'm always looking for a good clear, clean, modern sound I don't wanna sound like mud.
p.s. good monitors make all the difference my friend mixed on jbls and some other shit and ever since he bought focals and kali speakers his mixes sound like what you hear on the radio his setup is the following for those that want to know his gear: Kali speakers 8 inch, Focals 8 Inch, UAD MkII Duo, WA8000c Mic, Wa73 pre, Wa76, Wa2a, Klark Tecnik EQP, all on mogami cables which do make a difference if you want clean signal but you can use amazon basics lol make sure its balanced cables.
The mix was solid 🙏🏾. Just have to ask tho, we’re both the vocals ran through the same chain? Only asking because one of the verses towards the end sounds a bit different ( not in a bad way tho) just more tamed. 💯
Also, was this mastered ITb, or did you run it through again? I’m debating on grabbing the warm 2 bus vca comp for the last piece of my chain but might have to wait on that one lol.
Yep same vocal chain. I mastered it in the box afterwards. I like to incorporate both analog/itb for more versatility. That is a really nice compressor. If you thought this mix was nice though, wait until you see my video series I’m about to drop. I’m currently accepting clients for free mixing/mastering and my mixes have never sounded better. Stay tuned they’ll be worth watching for sure!
What the difference between Klark Teknik 2A-KT Optical Tube Leveling Amplifier vs Klark Teknik 1176-KT Classic FET-style Compressor??? Do I need both???
How’s it going bro, Can you show us how to connect just one of these compressor to the Apollo twin ? I’ve just ordered one becuz of your vids 👍 dope channel bro keep up the work rate
Plug your mic into the preamp, use a cable that has a quarter inch balanced trs male end, plug that into your interface, make sure interface is set to line level, turn gain completely down on interface. Use your preamp to set the gain levels. it's very simple to do!
Okay that's what up I be tracking that way i be tracking with Hardware it does make a big different. Swear I'm about to do some experiment as with mic goes in channel strip pre. Then out of the art voice channel strip into the Daking Mic Pre into motu 828ES that's clock with pure2 ad/da converter clocking.
Hey I have a question. When you're in the middle of a session using analog gear can you go back to it later on or do you have to complete it all in one time. cuz I'm assuming you move where you had your threshold or your attack like does it remember it
Hardware is not recallable, so I would take pictures of either your settings on the hardware, or print them in. If you don't like it in the end, dial in a new setting and repeat :)
Why would you buy an authentic $2.5k pre amp and cheap out on Klark Technic bullshit? Warm Audio and Golden Age Project are like $200 more and sound infinitely better
So you are limiting with the 76, Compressing with the 2A, And cleaning up with the Puitec?? With the 2A being slower does that make the compressors fight? I nevet had those 2 comps on one chain but in mixing there are no rules.
@@MrArtVein Along with you guys, I would have thought the 2A would have been first, and then the 76 for compression. But then again, I recall that Ty likes to keep things more transparent, and I've heard that the 2A is much more subtle than the 76, so I could see where he would set it up this way.
Hey bro question I have the warm audio wa76 which I’m going to return cause I’m getting some static when I’m adjusting the input gain(So much for buying used). But once I get a refund I was thinking of getting one of these compressors to track with so which one should I get for hip hop vocals which is what I do more often then R&B. Which one do u track with? I have a tlm49 going into a warm audio wa73
TyTheProdigy ok cool might keep the one I have found out that if I spray the pots with cleaner the noise most likely will go away. But I’m gone still get the klark la2a so I can have choices
@@lightafluident.9950 happy with my setup now upgraded to the klark with the black lion cell in it and that paired with the bae 1073 is great. Only thing I can see better then that is switching out the klark for the tube tech
Question. Is it possible to go directly into the KT2A without using a pre-amp/leveler before it. I have the EQP-KT and plan on getting the KT2A as soon as it comes back into stock. I haven't really considered getting the leveler amp. It will mainly be for live vocals but I'll use it for recordings also. Thanks.
You try to show us how to get a pro vocal with a KT76 that give no tube vibe? Man, Stop use it as a FET compressor, it sound too transparent. ( I didn’t mean it bad )
Would you recommend two EQP for mastering EQ? Also curious how come you have the Avalon channel strip but don't use it's EQ/Comp? Why not use the Avalon's stand alone preamps?
Most definitely. I might actually get another eqp and do some mastering with them. I love the preamp on the Avalon but simply just prefer the compression of the 1176 and LA2A more than the processing on the Avalon
Have you ever looked into 500 series modules/lunchbox? Looks much more affordable but still analog. Don't know how to hook those up tho. Also I notice you don't show off your mastering chain much. Although I know you've upgraded your preamp from the ART one, the ART VLA II is a great stereo mastering compressor/limiter well worth the money and you can link or unlink. If you haven't tried it I highly recommend! (Especially if you change the tubes to TungSol or Mullard)
@@lightafluident.9950 Oh trust me I know lol I was just recommending it to him because it can be much more affordable than full size. There are some good affordable units. Don't have to spend $1000 on each slot.
