  • About 3 days after I told you all that you would NEVER find a genuine vintage Levi's denim jacket in Berlin... I found a genuine vintage Levi's denim jacket in Berlin. I am still in shock... I never thrift and the one time I did I find a genuine Type 3 Trucker from the late 60s, that's incredible!

    For some reason, saw your video and remembered my Levi's jacket purchased about 1968, outgrown in a couple years, washed and hung in the closet with my letterman's jacket. Found it, still there with the peace sign patch on the arm. Washed and hung up about 1969.

    Love the video! A few years ago after my grandfather passed we had to clean out his home and sort out his belongings. After a long weekend of sorting we had finally gotten to his garage as the last area to go through. After some while there I noticed an indigo sleeve hanging from a wheelbarrow that was filled with gardening tools and such. I then immediately dug it out and it was a 60's era Levis type III very similar to the one in your video. The jacket has plenty of wear, character, and fade patterns with minimal washes along with a frayed collar (on your point that the collar shows the most wear and likened to a crotch blowout). I was so happy to find something of my grandfather's that I can wear too and it speaks to his great style and taste. Thanks for sharing your own vintage Levis find and enjoy the piece!

    I think it would be interesting to find out when exactly the first black denim jeans and jackets started. I always thought it was the 70s and 80s. How could nobody have thought of producing black denim before that? I remember in the mid 80s having a pair of black Levi’s was a big thing.

    I have a Levis type 3 from that era which has a paper size (44) tag sticking out of the top of the oblong brown paper in the same position as the fabric one shown in the illustration you found online and also apparently, originally on yours.
    I've sent you an email with a photo of the size tab on mine.

    There’s a used clothing shop ear to me where I’m buying up unused Levi’s, Japanese denim for $8 and occasionally winter jackets with tags then selling it on EBay and Facebook for $35. It’s because the used shop just buys clothes by the KG weight and the going rate is $1.50 per KG .

    With regards to information about this jacket, the washing and care instruction labels on Levi's were made mandatory in 1971. So I believe this piece is from 1971 (possibly bit after that?) as opposed to from the late 60s 🙂

    Awesome find and great video. Love what you said about the curated vintage stores kind of ruining the mystery of a great thrift or vintage find. Of course there are so many great vintage pieces out there, but it's blessing and a curse that SO many people are into it now. Anybody with an Instagram can kind of start a vintage business (often without the correct knowledge or sourcing practices).

      I guess it works out as a net positive. More second hand, less new consumed. And maybe we find bargains from the guys who don’t know 😂

    @jasonmitchell5219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Man what a find! I can see you're still in shock and I don't blame you. I don't know about keeping it as Berlin gets just as cold as Glasgow and if I can't close a jacket then I'd flip it but I can see the appeal of keeping something that cool. I thought the fades were particularly sweet. That, and the love the previous owner had for the jacket. Anyway, stay safe. J.

    Yay! Informative video, thank you. I have a
    type 3 I bought in the late 70’s or early mid 80’s. I was in high school. It had the cardboard tag, but it eventually crumbled & I removed it way back then😐. The button holes are stitched in orange & the 3 dig numbers on the back are 511. I would love to know more about the three digits & orange stitching on the button holes. Im guessing maybe its from the 80’s.?! Thanks from So Cal, Pasadena.

    • @CeeAreDee
      @CeeAreDee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The three digits were the factory it was made I believe and the stitching, there are so many variables over the years… even from factory to factory at the same time that it’s hard to say anything concrete. Love that you’ve kept the jacket for so long.

    After watching your video I went into my storage area and pulled out my old Type III jacket that is almost identical to the one you found in the Thrift Store. I had several of these jackets between 1967 and 1995, but I just have one now. It’s an orange tab with the code number 70504 printed on the collar tab, but it looks almost identical to yours. Also, the orange tab does not have the word Levi’s printed, it only has the letter R with a circle around the R. Apparently Levi’s had to produce a certain number of jackets without the word Levi and only the registration mark to maintain their registration of that style without the registration being applied to the name only.
    Is my jacket worth anything?

    Yeah I bought in Central London about 3 years ago in a vintage second hand shop a Levis Mrk3 jacket a "Made in USA"
    It's a size 48L.
    On the label it says:
    100% Cotton
    WPL 423
    527 013 77970 5
    71506 0216
    On the collar it writes;
    71506* 0216 48L
    And it has 3 digits on each button inside the jacket stamped : 527
    You are right about the buttoning the jacket!
    I am 185cm high and 115kg in weight, but I must say the jacket fits me over well with the shoulders and the arm pit nicely but the problem is buttoning up! I must admit I have to loose about 10kg if I would like to be buttoned up!
    Oh and before I finish my writing it is a small "e" and paid 30 £ for it.
