If you do need an appointment you can schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment by calling us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 8:00 am - 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday or contacting your local Social Security office.

See Social Security Number is a unique number given to all residents of the USA (temporary of permanent) if you are not in the US, you cannot hold an SSN. If anyone promises you to do that for you in exchange for money then it's a fraud. Don't fall prey to such situations.

Hi i filled my asylum here
After clock complete i applied for work permit and along with ssn also
But now i got my EAD ( work permit ) after 10 days wait i go to ssa office and applied for ssn they give me letter which indicates that they send my all documents ( ss5 form , work permit , immigration documents , alien number , passport ) to department of homeland security if they approved my documents they send my ssn card through mail on my giving mailing address
But i have a question
In my passport my name is single name
And in my work permit my name is
Surname:- my name
Given name - no given name
And in ss5 for i filled my name as last name acc to ead card
They told me in this process it takes 4 weeks time
Is there any chance to ssn come or not

Do you know if I can provide my cousin's mailing address who stays in a different state? as i do not have a permanent address yet at the time of application.
To use your cousin's address you have to live in the same state as you can only apply for SSN at your nearest SSA office.

Once in the USA , you have to fill the application form. You can do it online or walk to your nearest SSA office and fill-up a physical form. However, doing it online is convenient as you don't have to be there more than once.

Yes you can
On which address they mail the card?
Any address which you give at the SSN office. This could be your home address, but if you haven't rented an apartment yet you can give them a nearby address such as your friend's.
How to get I-94 document before applying for SSN ?
You can download your I-94 from this website i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home
Can hotel address be given as mailing address in the form as we would not be having any address during our start days

@@jyotijaiswal1559 No, because SSN will be your address proof and your address will be mentioned at the back alongside the document. So make sure you rent an apartment and then apply for SSN. You would have to update your address every time you change home at the SSN office.

I can't help you. You have to wait till their given time and if you still don't receive, call the SSN office and confirm.

Hi, as per my knowledge, only residents of America can apply and get SSN. So if any exam requires SSN then it means that the exam is specifically meant for those residing in the US. Hope that helps.

This might help principal A-2 Visa holders are eligible for SSNs and can be issued a card with the legend "Valid for Work Only With DHS Authorization." A-2 family members may only be assigned SSNs if they apply for and are granted authorization to work by DHS. Per guidance from the SSA, principal A-2 Visa holders must present the required evidence of age, identity and lawful alien status at any Social Security office to be assigned an SSN.

You can put your hotel address for SSN but before that make sure that your hotel is ready to receive mail for you. However, once you find permanent accommodation for you, consider changing your address with the SSA
