- The British Museum, London what to see in 2 hours! Let's go visit the world famous and extremely fascinating British Museum which is dedicated to human history, art and culture, and is located in the Bloomsbury area of London. The permanent collection of the the British Museum, numbering some 8 million works, is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence and originates from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.
The British Museum is unique in bringing together under one roof the cultures of the world, spanning continents and oceans. No other museum is responsible for collections of the same depth and breadth, beauty and significance.
The eight million objects of the British Museum allow us to explore the extraordinary diversity of human cultures, from small communities to vast empires, to discover the many forms and expressions human beings have given to every aspect of life, and to realise how closely they are interconnected.
In this particular video, we are going to concentrate in the most important exhibits of the British Museum and one must see if he or she only has two hours or less of time while visiting the museum.

Excellent video, Vic. Thank you for sharing. I'm heading to London this week and the British Museum is the highlight of my visit this time. I went once to the British Museum. But, I was so tired and so dazed that I didn't see much, unfortunately. That was because I had just been on an overnight flight from the USA. And, then that evening taking a connecting flight to here, Cape Town, South Africa.
Wow.. You have to go back once again and spend at least 2-3 hours there..
Much enjoyed~! I can't ever get enough of the British Museum, Louvre, and those in Berlin and Vienna. I wish I lived in Europe so it was all much closer to home to be able see it more often.

It has to do with that being a classical center of esoteric Kabbala mysticism. They have this big Beelzebub statue thing that's evil high level Masonic stuff. Devo dire che questo museo è davvero speciale: non solo è ricchissimo ma le didascalie che illustrano le opere (in italiano, inglese e arabo) sono magnifiche e permettono anche agli inesperti di conoscere molto della civiltà dell'antico Egitto. Tutto questo è merito dell'attuale direttore del museo che è ,a mio avviso, il più grande egittologo attualmente esistente. @@giulianoradice4715 That is super fascinating about how you feel about your museum, studies of ancient Egypt, and teaching of history about them for they laid the founding principals of humans and civilizations. What is più grande egittologo? Dr. Zahi Hawass? I know of him and watched him on here many times. He was really doing it while Mubarak was the dictator of modern Egypt before the revolution. I visited Egypt in 2009. It was incredibly fascinating and quite shocking too for it was scary as well. It changed my life and the way I think and see the world and human history and humanity itself.

You're right Vic - that Moai is one of the best preserved samples. I've seen your Easter Island videos as well and many of the statues that remain there have been heavily eroded. I'm glad this one ended up in a museum, even if it is on the other side of the world.

according to the british museum, the rosetta stone on display is a copy, the real one is not on display, they only display it on paying exhibitions
I was at the British Museum yesterday and I can guarantee that the Rosetta Stone that I saw was the real one.. I do not think the Museum has a copy of it displayed..
@@VicStefanu that’s what i thought but their own website says otherwise, it says the one that’s free to see is an exact replica, according to their website you have to pay to see the real one during exhibitions like the one that ended in February
@@salemk.3098 Ok, thank you for getting back to me. I now know what is happening.. The real Rosetta Stone is exhibited at the Egyptian wing on the ground floor (which is a wing just before the Parthenon Marbles) and this is the Rosetta Stone that everybody sees. There is a replica in another wing called the Enlightenment Room but hardly anyone knows about it, almost 100% of the tourists see the real one at the Egyptian wing...
@@salemk.3098 Sometimes they remove the Rosetta Stone from its usual location and display it as part of a special (ticketed) exhibit.. Most of the time, however, it is free to view at the entrance of the Egyptian wing..

It's always busy... although it's open later on Fridays (until 8.30pm) and is often quieter
Agreed- go late in the day if you can't make Friday evenings. Don't even think about going on weekends the crowds are terrible, any time of the year. The Museum is a victim of its own success I'm afraid but a must see place in London.

I agree with you, the Chinese porcelains (vases, etc) are one of the most significant exhibits in the Museum. Here, in this video, I followed the recommended list of the Museum and somehow they have left the porcelains off the list..

Lord Elgin,or James Bruce, as was his name...did not get a permit to remove the sculptures,but to copy them...and get whatever was already down... but without permission he removed about half of the surviving sculptures of the Parthenon, as well as sculptures from the Propylaea and Erechtheum...
Lord elgin dismantled the sculptures for his own interest not to save them for the world. Those sculptures were made for the Greeks,and not for the Britons.... Britain has a lot to apologize for their criminal act,and give the sculptures to the rightful owners,the Greeks!..
Would the British feel pride if the royal tombs of Westminster Abbey were lying in the Met, in New York, or half of Stonehenge had been transported to Athens or even Brussels? I very much doubt it. They even say that the Greeks are not real Greeks,using this as an excuse not to return the great artifacts to the Greek nation... How PATHETIC they are! Greece is indeed the continuation of ancient Greece,and they are propagandists!..

nixter888 The British kindly saved your beautiful marble friezes and figures from ruin as they were lying unloved and vandalized in the dust - and they looked after them, treasured them with great love as beautifully as possible for you... So, you'd be more welcome to have them back if you showed a little more respect, thanks and grace. A HUGE amount of British art, artifacts, invention and culture has been ripped out and taken to the four corners of the world you muppet, so wake up and think.... Should all artifacts in every museum be moved back to the cultures from where they were stolen or 'bought'? Then why only the Elgin marbles? ....Having said all this I believe the marbles may be returned - and the FANTASTIC British Museum may just keep casts made... Though I doubt your type would ever be happy you miserable little man.
@nixter888 You people that bang on about Elgin are soooo boring! The marbles are on display for anyone to see so what the hell does it matter if they are in London, Athens or Paris for that matter. Get a life!
What Nix is trying to say is that if something's stolen, what is to be done? Never mind if the marbles are the Elgin ones, or those from the hands of a poor little child.

Danny Morgan most of the things in the museum were actually Gifts so learn your history instead of perpetuating the myth that these were stolen , also many of these things would have been destroyed during WW2 had they not been shipped to the museaum
who cares how many people a country has, this little island ruled over most the world with a tiny population, british people are smart, these items will never be given back because they are also part of our history of the british empire, you can have 50billion population it only takes a man made virus or a nuke to wipe any country out, "size don't matter it's what you do with it"
