Nice little video. Thank you for sharing. I’d like to go to Switzerland via train, so it’s good to know it’s possible in one day. I didn’t know the Swiss used a different socket, either. Good to know 👍

Yes I had no idea on the plugs, wish I’d done my homework before leaving! It was a long day by train but a lovely way to travel. Got for it

Hi! During your 4 hrs between trains in Paris, how were you best able to see the Eiffel Tower? Metro? Trying to determine how much time we will need between arriving in Paris before we depart on the TGV-Lyria to just pop over and see it and snap a few pics. Thanks!

Ha. I am the last person to ask. I had plans to do so much in Paris but due to over ambitious planning and a lack of key metro lines running we so nearly missed our onward train. We dropped cases at the Gare de Lyon which took up a lot of time. My only advice is don’t underestimate how much time every little bit takes- buying tickets, finding and changing lines, walking from the metro to the tower (that took ages).

@@TravelsWithCharlie very helpful! We will have bags to consider, as well. We just hate to go through Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower! Thank you!

@@TravelsWithCharlie do you remember which metro stop you used for the tower? Trocadero station or Bir-Hakeim?

So the RER line was not running and we walked to Austerlitz (first mistake) and came out at Ecole Militaire (long walk but nice approach), then panicked and went from Bir-Hakeim to Etoile to Gare de Lyon. All in all a bad choice of route. But hey, we made it with 5 mins to spare 😂

For almost a year watching the latese TWC Videois part of my weekend routine. Gettin‘ up late on Saturday, goin‘ to the shops for the week‘s grocery shopping and then a late breakfast with your latest adventure🙂. Is it the start of a new series of vacation videos from abroad?

Yep, start of a new series travelling around Europe this summer. Don’t want to give too much away but we went south to warmer climates this year. Thanks for the comment, so glad you like the videos. Need more people to feel the same 😉

Having watched multiple videos how to go about from London- Paris-Zurich , I found yours to be more helpful. Wasn't sure what trains to take. Sounds like Eurostar is direct to Paris. TGV is direct from Paris to Zurich. Can you please share what are the names of the train stations in Paris and Zurich (somewhere central) that we need to select to book our tix? We're heading to Jougfraujoch. Therefore looking to stay somewhere closer the metro/railway stations. Is there a direct train from Zurich to London? Spent hours/days trying to find this info, but information overload at this point and even more confused 🤣😅 & it doesn't help that our travel date is in a month. Thanks so much!

Hi - thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it. Sadly no direct train from London to Switzerland, so you change in Paris. Arrive Gare du Nord, leave from Gare de Lyon. About 2 metro stops I think. We had about a 4 hour gap between trains. Also the Paris to Zurich train was stopping short due to track issues, I don't know if it now runs through all the way again. It wasn't a big deal, changed in Basel. Anyway, best place for information on getting anywhere by train is this website - I use it all the time www.seat61.com/Switzerland.htm There's info on getting to where you're heading on there, and it looks like you change trains in Basel anyway. Good luck, I am jealous. I want to go back!

@@TravelsWithCharlie Thank you for the additional information! Some of the train schedules we looked had as little as 13 mins in between trains 🤣...we might have to look for alternative modes of transportation 😀. Thanks so much though and happy traveling!

Swiss trains are meant to be super-reliable but that does make for an anxious trip 😬

Hi how much were all the tickets ?

    • @TravelsWithCharlie

Hi - so we travelled on a 5-day interrail pass which cost £283. My son was 11 so went for free (bargain!) and I see this now costs €318 for 5 days. We then paid £57 supplement for Eurostar tickets to Paris and I think the Paris-Zurich train was included in the interrail ticket. Sorry, probably not much use as an answer. Best place for advice on this journey is www.seat61.com/Switzerland.htm#london-to-basel-and-zurich-by-train A quick search on www.raileurope.com/en suggests tickets one way could be as low as £95 but could be way higher. It's a fun journey though
