Hi Brant, Funny I was thinking about you earlier today or was it yesterday, and wondering how you were doing with your deck that you got a little while back. I just now found your review.. I will make some comments here as I am watching to clarify some things. First is about the bordered decks. You are correct, things have changed and do not make those any more. Used to be in the past I only had bordered and everybody was wanting borderless. Now it's all borderless, but some still want borders. Good to hear your take on that, it helps me decide about a move I am thinking to make. I have been thinking it would be good to offer at least one deck bordered. it is a big work for me to do it, to set up the files for printing. But I am thinking about it. I have a new version I am calling Spiritual Fire. So far it is only borderless big medium. (BTW I do not do the cutting, my husband Dirk does all of that. I could never do all of what I am doing without him helping, it is big teamwork here. I do all of the art and any kind of painting, glittering etc. He is in charge of lamination and cutting, and there are some limitations on the cutting. White borders are not easy for him to do and are out.) I was thinking to do the Spiritual Fire in a large size with black borders and some titles. Last night I woke up at 2 am thinking up titles for these cards. I want to do something unusual with them. it is going to be a while before I can get this online and up and running.
I might have one or two older sets of prints to make into decks of the original version with borders, but they are reserved for fancy decks with glitter and the hand panting of iridescent.
I started making decks of the original version Illuminated tarot in 1988. You are right about the problems associated with the vinyl backs. I have found heat is bad, so store in a cool place. I think if the deck is in use it will stay flat and in better shape, but backs do shrink. However the roll of vinyl backing I used for your deck was lying around here for years, so maybe it shrunk already over time.
Your pouch is unusual. Actually lots of them are unusual. yours was from a small piece I got somewhere, I do not remember. I used to give more choices for cover card, but am not able to do that so much any more.
Look n the backs of the extra sample cards I usually write on the back what it is. the black borders is just an extra for you to enjoy, it does not correspond to a presently available deck size or format.
Yes, the lamination is like a super glaze, and it does bring up the colors to the max.You are right about the matte being less dynamic. I do see the images matte before lamination, and when they come through the lamination it always is so great to see how much better they look.
I developed the colors and painting over time, years. I am a landscape painter at my core, and very aware of light and space.
A little bit of shuffling is OK but it is common sense is that the more you abuse it the faster it will wear out.
You did not get it right about how your deck was sourced as to the images. It is a little complicated to explain, but yours is printed from a second generation set of prints made from the original 5 x 7 paintings. I had to do this to make a size I could put o the scanner that would fit to make medium size deck on the Toshiba laser printer that I used to print on. it was direct scans on the printer each ;time I made prints. My new situation is a different technology, a Konica Minolta Accurio Press, and it only goes directly from digital files. A long time ago I made decks from photographs. After that I did the laser printing directly by the artwork on the scanner. the newest decks have a better card stock, but it still is not the same as the playing cards variety that you mentioned.

Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video and thanks for clarifying everything for us. I really couldn’t be happier with the deck. Your art looks absolutely amazing online, but seeing them in person is even better. I look forward to collecting more of your decks. I’ll send you an email 😁
Thanks again for the information and I look forward to chatting more about my next deck.

OMG Carol uses Peranakan Batik for your bag!!! That's the batik of "my people" 😁 The two Magicians I think are two different versions (she painted several versions of the majors I believe), and the backs are printed from what I remember, not additional stick ons. The back of yours is something from Carol I have never seen before! I'm glad my videos helped a bit. They were taken down for a period of time when I was revamping my content as I moved away from "Nobody Here", so all in good timing I guess 🌷I love this deck!

I thought it looked like batik! I’ve never seen batik that was this intricate before. When I was talking to Carol she explained that she was in the process of adding the backing. I think she said it was vinyl/contact paper. I think she laminated over it though. I’m not worried about it lasting. It seems very secure and safe

@@moonbabytarot Thanks for that new to me info about the backings! Yes, that is batik, but the Peranakan variety from Java, thus the bright colours and the patterns you see there. Originally it would have been hand drawn for a wax resist hand dipped dyeing process. Very labour intensive and a skill that is dying due to the lack of economic incentive and government support of the art. The Peranakan people being "mixed" people and all the political implications that might entail. ANYWAY will stop myself there! Thank you for sharing this lovely deck of yours!

The pouch fabric is a print, from a small piece of fabric I found somewhere, don' t remember. the backing definitely is applied vinyl con-tact stuff.

My Starlight Illuminated is one of my prized possessions!!! The color palette is quite different from the one you got.... so now I’m feeling like I need to round things out and get the version you just showed 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️.
A friend of mine has the glitter version and keeps telling me to get it!!!! Enjoy your neck deck!!!! They are really special !
