If my memory serves me well (as he states in his victory speech) it was his last race! He was a class act and along with Roger Decoster a very hard worker and mechanic too....My childhood hero growing up in Belgium. Such a sad loss. I feel for his wife who bought him the puppy just a couple of weeks earlier...
I was at this race w/my 10 y/o son (now 32) and it was a great time! Had a great chat with David Bailey, and snaped a photo of my son with Mike Kiedrowski. David and Mike were both very cool, kind and personable! It was an AWESOME DAY!
I hated how Ricky Johnson's career went after his wrist injury during Gainsville National in 1989. He was the G.O.A.T. He had so much more to accomplish.
I bought a used '05 CR500AF (real deal from Service Honda) with 20 hours on it. Have had it for two seasons. It is THE best bike I've ever owned, hands down. It puts my 450's to shame, turns with my RM250, and is the funnest bike I've ever ridden. 500's rule...
@ 5.04 Jeff Leisk. I was something like 8-10 years old when my dad took me to see him race as a 18 year old kid in a place called broadford here in Australia. US rider called Chuck Sun was the favourite to win and Jeff blew his pegs off...Before Chad reed there was Jeff Leisk.....!!!!! Amazing rider.....
I remember wanting Rick Johnson to win so bad and Johnny O'Mara to get 2nd. Eric was just so fast that day. He actually puked in his helmet during the race holding off Johnny O'Mara.
Ahhh yesss. The best years in motocross. To the guy that said rick Johnson was GOAT. No way, as it was David Bailey. He was the absolute best and beat Johnson In almost every race. Until his paralysis in 1987. It's a shame.
Back in the day the top US stars raced against the guys from Europe. It's a bit of a joke now that none of the factories allow their 'stars' to race the USGP ... a chance to prove they are the fastest in the World on their day not just the USA.
Our sport has lost something. The death of the two stroke and the smell the sound and the 500cc bike where so hard to ride and now the loss off Eric Geboers. I hope i get reborn and come back in the 70s to ride again
Theres a brand new in the crate 1997 CR500 & a new 1998 KX500 on display at Motosport in Hillsboro, OR. I just seen them today. Me: "How much...seriously?" Store Manager: "Not for sale...haha, I'm keeping them"
So, why did Honda cut O ' mara? Was he just odd man out, on a loaded team? Injury risk? They didn't seem to worry about budgets , riders contracts weren't THAT huge in the 80's . & Glover has said in an interview that he had a Honda MX contract ready to sign, but out of loyalty he stuck with Yamaha
@Ireg2post1 I agree i cant stand the FRRRPPPPPTTTT sound of those crappy four strokes...plus you fall over when its hot and forget trying to restart it....i still think of inventing a throw away can thats attached to your arm with velcro..with a sharp point on the end and full of propane..or ether.( not sure the spelling)..any way stab the side of your carb..on a four stroke after you have dumped it..fill the air case full of it and kick it over...
@xxbeatlesfan Unpractical, dangerous, emissions, fuel usage, weight. Ive ridden an cr500 and I ate shit within 30 seconds. Ill watch somebody else ride one though!
I own a 1987 CR 500 and i love to watch old videos of 500cc motocross back in the day!!!!!
Same here, two kx500's from this era. The best in my opinion👍

I hated how Ricky Johnson's career went after his wrist injury during Gainsville National in 1989. He was the G.O.A.T. He had so much more to accomplish.
if u pay attention u will hear the rumbling sound of thunder from Walter Bartolini's Husaberg! A unique bike in that era, the standard nowadays

The sound of a 500cc 2stroke is like nothing else, you feel it as much as hear it.

It takes serious balls to ride a 500 on a track. Scares me every time.

Why do posters have to add music. I just wanted the race., not your bumper music.

numbers 69 and 3 are magical
... and 69 is devine .....

Had Johnson been 100 percent he woulda won hands down he was in a class by his self before his wrist injury
wow. motocross has def come a long way. from bike technology and gear and helmets! lol
Our sport has lost something. The death of the two stroke and the smell the sound and the 500cc bike where so hard to ride and now the loss off Eric Geboers. I hope i get reborn and come back in the 70s to ride again

wow, this was back when 500's were easy to get ahold of..
Their all luck Johnson was riding with only one arm.
500 2t....very bike!strong,for superman use
I miss when motocross had mud all over the track
can't imagine riding a 500 2 stroke race bike let alone racing one, possibly not my cup of tea...
Lucky that is.
I heard a 4 stroke in there around 5:20 :/

i don't think so man...of course, the 500 2t is a monster, but also 450 4t aren't motorbykes for ladies !
Kosts Therider Millions= KTM
AHHHHH MY EARS!!! 1:28
CR500 is the best👍
