Using other family members to run up and tickle and then run out of frame has been so useful!

To get kids to look toward me and smile, I often let them in on the secret that my camera will wink at them if they watch carefully and smile. The shutter “winking” has been a fun thing to snag attention.

GREAT POSING TIPS! It sound like it also helps if you have a youthful personality that children can relate to! Thanks for this video...

Great takeaway ideas! Blowing bubbles is always a hit with kids so I always pack a few bottles in my kit. The excitement, the blowing, the wonderment can yield some great expressions.

Great ideas. I have placed a PEZ dispenser on the hot shoe of my camera. If kids are old enough to eat them, then dispense one candy after a "posed" shot.

If I’m having a hard session I’ll ask everyone to say “Diarrhea!”
That usually cracks up the parents.

I find if you have grumpy kids and you show them a photo you've taken of another family jumping, and you ask "do you think you could jump better than this?" - suddenly they are all in on "winning" at the jumping photo. Generally from there I find that they'll keep going with my suggestions after that.

A great thing with little boys is to bring toys they can throw at you..soft toys but it gets them to do what they love...be boys.

I bring along a neutral colored small wooden camera or a bunny that will look cute in pictures and non distracting. This helps get the littles ones to cooperate and enjoy and is not like a bright red Elmo or some old hairless doll that the client might bring along.

Okay! Why have I never thought to do this before!? So simple, yet amazing!

When I know I will be shooting little kids I bring some neutral colored props for them to hold that I don’t mind having in the photos to comfort the kiddos. I only use these when needed to comfort or engage a young kid. I have a small white wooden camera or small soft stuffed animals. This serves to remove from the photo a bright red Elmo or some other bright colored toy that does not fit my vision.

One thing I also realized is absolutely Vital on the photographer's side is to shoot in vertical AND """""HORIZONTAL""""". WE OFTEN DO NOT REALIZE THAT CLIENTS LOVE TO PRINT photos HORIZONTALLY. I wish I did this more to give my clients options.
