    You should inform your self better befor getting an Animal. In my opinion he did behave very well for a little hognose noodle. I just got a little one and he is much more dramatic.

  • @luvlost03

    You need to give snakes/reptiles more time before handling, i waited 2 weeks for all my reptiles before holding them. You also changed his environment 3 times in a week.

      Definitely going back I would have put him straight into the terrarium !

    • @Idris1514
      @Idris1514 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And I believe that terrarium was a bit too much space and that could stress them out as well, which could make them refuse food

      Exactly what I was thinking while watching this, especially for a juvenile snake; that's loads of stress for its first week.

      Also gave him live...and then expected him to eat f/t...
      He was also probably in too big of a container...
      Not trying to harp on you or be mean.
      I just hope if a newbie reads this it will help them...

    This should probably be called how not to take care of a hognose...I mean I made some of the same mistakes and I am hoping that it will work out.
    I didn't change his enclosure but I did add substrate.
    I got him to eat and then was like yay I can hold him now...oops he's supposed to have about 3 meals before I do that! Okay I will leave him alone then...

    • @MilesJ_Everything
      @MilesJ_Everything 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. Plus they have to chew on you to deliver any venom. 99% of the time when they strike at you, it is a bluff strike. It is closed mouth. Same with hissing and puffing. They are all bluff. That hognose is 100% chill. Awesome snake to put up with all that right after getting there.

  • @Upper_echelon_exotics
    @Upper_echelon_exotics 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's what I love about him....that he's "scary."
    Well not only that but I think it's adorable how they puff up. Their little loud hisses. It's pretty cool.

    I think the f/t pinky rat you gave him on day 7 was a little bit too big. General rule of thumb is the rodent shouldn’t be too much larger than the width of the snake. Just enough to where you can see a small lump after they swallow it.

  • @MilesJ_Everything
    @MilesJ_Everything 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That hognose was awesome considering he went through 2 cage setups and a feeding and tons of handling in just a couple of days. You really should wait a week to feed and a couple or three feedings before you handle when you put a new snake in a new container.

    Feeding him a pinky rat is not very nutritional. Baby mice and rats are mostly water. He should be getting a fuzzy mouse for the bone calcium.

    Hognoses are easier to handle than ball pythons?

    • @BONDBEAUTYSJUNGLE
      @BONDBEAUTYSJUNGLE  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think ball pythons handle easier because hognoses are just more scared and sassy so they will fake strike , play dead and pee ball pythons are just more chill ♥️♥️

    • @herpaderpz
      @herpaderpz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hognoses actually are pretty good for handling, especially compared to other smaller species of snake. Some act kind of sassy but it goes away especially as they mature in age. If you’re interested in them, I’d recommend the video on them by clints reptiles!
      I own two species of snakes, and that being ball pythons and hognoses actually haha. I love them both!

    he may not want them wet! I dethaw mine in a plastic bag in warm water then run the bag under very hot water for a minute and automatically feed!

    How many snakes do you have now? I wanna see 🧐. Can you make a video of all of them....PWEASE! Hognoses are little huffers. When I first started keeping snakes (Ball Pythons, a Blood Python and a rescued w/c Rat Snake) I was turned off by hognoses. I thought they were funny looking and who wants a snake w/ an attitude. But as the years have gone by, I think Hoggies are adorable. The huffing as babies is super cute, but they definitely need to be socialized.

    • @BONDBEAUTYSJUNGLE

      @@BONDBEAUTYSJUNGLE Aren't BPs the sweetest!? Out of the 13 I have, there is only 1 that has hissed at me. And I got one bite from my sweetest little girl who happens to have a MAD feeding response. My hand was in the way...and I swear I think she felt bad for it. She was in her hide for days afterward, and she is usually front & center when she knows I'm in the room. Poor baby.

      you might not have the same reaction to a hognose bite. people just say that the reactions of the 2 are similar. however i’d just try to be a little more cautious around it and do lots of research. a good channel is Snake Discovery :)

    • @calamity0.o
      @calamity0.o 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A hognose is rear fanged and the "venom" isn't inside the fangs, they aren't hollow. It drips into the puncture through their saliva. They'd have to be really chewing on you for a minute to deliver any. The fangs are meant to pop the air out of puffed up toads and start the digestion. Besides, they're more likely to bluff strike if they do and give you boops.

    • @Upper_echelon_exotics

      If it does bite...Get it off quickly. Push up on the bony nose part. Dav Kaufman's got a great video with JMG hognose breeder...I am pretty sure they showed how to do it. If they didn't the at least descriped it better than me.
