For your information owen, issan thai is a different dialect from normal thai language, my g/f is from issan as a young girl, but her family moved to kamphaengpet, and she can spot an issan person/speaker from a mile away, you seemed to get by ok tho, just imagine a thai bloke wandering around lancaster mkt and see how he gets received ?
Owen I stayed at p and something Apartments 3000 per month it was I met foreigners who were living in Khon kean with £900 per month back then 16 year ago I really enjoyed it there I use to go to the big park plenty of food there and markets
Owen what ive learned of traveling and living in thai 4 39 years never tell anyone its your last night in town always ends up a mad 1 then the travel next day is horrendous and when you should be out exploring you end up in bed early dying then a 3 day recovery period
I lived in a similar area in Udon. My wife advised me to ignore them until I need to interact with them and only speak Thai if you can. Something to with them being worried that you will speak English to them and they have no idea what you said. In a very short time I was getting smiles etc. Jungle drums had spoken that I was alright.
Cheers

Owen would you recommend Khon kaen to visit? Udon Thani is on my list to visit. Great vlogg amigo.
Udon I think is a little better than Khon Kaen. They are both OK for a few days.
