    SO I can spend money on a bus pass, electricity, rent, cell phone, cable, and utilities. That's it. I have soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, food in the cupboard (dried beans, rice, frozen frozen cooked beans, meat, barley, frozen vegetables, fruit, eggs, milk, cream, flour, baking soda, soup stalk, onions, garlic, spices, olives, canned tomatoes, etc) I should be Ok for a few weeks. :)

    I have been doing this challenge perfectly for years..... This is a not a challenge it's a budget for people who don't make a lot.

  • @gypsywhispers9224
    @gypsywhispers9224 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Just subbed, I'm going to do this for a year and minimalise as I have no money and loads of stuff, I'm not buying expensive products for a year (panic as I like salon shampoo so I'll probably look like a scarecrow!) no new make up, anything I already have I'm not allowed to buy a duplicate, no clothes from jan 1st, I'm a single mum so I don't have to buy gifts! I've already bought my child's birthday gift, I'm downsizing by 50%, but hoping I can let go of 80%,I just find I can't ever find anything and my stuff stresses me out, I'm hoping to make a few like minded friends who want to sell their stuff on weekends...I'm even giving away two horses I have because I just can't keep spending like I am, it's taken me a month to decide this, thanks for posting this video as everyone I find doing it helps me to know I'm not alone xxx

      +gypsy whispers No problem, sounds like your finances will really appreciate this if you keep it up for a whole year. I'd love to hear about your progress :)

    This is a great idea! I am so broke and I have been shopping in my own closet. It is amazing how you can come up with new ways to wear the clothes you already have when you can't buy new clothes. I have some many tights and scarves that I can wear the same five base outfits every week and just accessorize them differently.

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You sure can! It pushes your creativity and sometimes you can discover new awesome ways to wear things you already had :)

    Great video! Saving money is very hard for me as I seem to collect it all for bills then save what I have left.. Thanks for the tips

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should try reversing that... Try this: figure out what you want to save and then use the rest of the money to pay your bills. If there's not enough for bills then hustle to make more... It's not easy, but it can be a lot of fun. :) pro tip: it helps if your goal for saving is something that will motivate you (like save for an awesome vacation or something you want really really bad)

    My view on this is that there are 2 things to do. one is to not spend money that you don't need to be spending money on and 2) the secret to doing this is to do as many things that don't cost any money to do. Walk, walk every street in your town or neighborhood, go to the library. also try to not watch TV so you aren't watching commercials.

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ronald Lindeman I agree on all of it! Sometimes not spending money is more fun because you have to be creative, and you learn new things (like walking around your community can help you find cool spots other people don't know about). I LOVE THE LIBRARY! It's so easy to forget that it's there as a resource. I have a Kindle too and the library lets you check out Kindle books for free online so you don't even have to go to the library! I agree on the TV part too! I mostly watch things online, and I do have Netflix. I'd love to cancel our cable, but my husband loves football so we keep it for that- hoping to get him off of it after football season this year. You're so right on not watching commercials- the less ads you see the less you want to spend money- the same goes for magazine subscriptions- if I don't know what the hot new "thing" is, there's no way for me to want it. :)

    if you guys really want to save money on toilet paper and water make sure that you always take a shit at a local gas station/store and steal their paper if u can. Also take a shower at ur friends house when they're not home if u have a spare key

    Here is a challenge for you. If you buy hand soap, use the empty refill hand soap for dish soap, shampoo and conditioner. I will empty what's left of these items into the bottle and use it when I need it, especially when you are tight with money. It has helped my husband and I save money (around $40-$60 a year). Give it a try and see what you will end up saving.

    Congratulations on getting married - my children and i are in the 1st week of the 30 day no spend and it is very very hard, i brought an essential school jumper for my son however i picked up a pair of shoes and a onesie ect. AVOID shops, or have self restraint, i had to return everything which wasted my petrol!!!

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you :) What spurred you to start the no spend challenge? Yes, shops, magazines, sales ads can all make you want things, but it's about having self control. It might help to have a big goal that you're saving for- then every time you're tempted, you can ask yourself things like "are these shoes more important that my dream vacation, my children's education, etc"... Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment :)

    Nice challenge to help install that 'pause' button that makes you reflect a bit before buying that coffee, spending that gas money, etc. Very good idea to be mindful of the choices we make! Hi. I think the "No Spend" would interest me more if it was followed just like the name says "No Spend". Being allow to pick up a food item to complete a recipe seem to be breaking the rule. However I like the empty the frig and cupboards by eating what is in them to complete the challenge.

    You are beautiful and congratulations on your marriage! As far as toiletries go how about looking for a less expensive way to buy them. Obviously if you still have some, use them, but why not shop for the things you need at the dollar store or online? I can't tell you how many products that I have found that are one third the price at the dollar store. We are talking about the same products but at a fraction of the price of retail stores! People will shop and pay for what is convenient without considering that they can find the same products elsewhere for less!

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sckmagic7 Thank you :) Yes, definitely when you do buy them buy them below the regular retail price whether that be via couponing (I have 2 videos that teach all about this), using stores like Costco, buying them when they're on clearance, or like you said, at the 99 Cents store or stores like the Dollar Tree. I just found I would often get to the bottom 25% of my shampoo or something and I would buy/open a new one instead of using the rest of the old one. Many times I would buy something thinking I needed it, only to find a new one in the back of my cabinet... It just helped me go through the stuff I already had :)

    Odd, but once I stopped stock piling, I was able to save $500+ a month and put it toward debt. $10,000 in debt ÍI could easily pay off in a good year. Now it's at a snail's pace because I'm laid off. I'm suffering not to put a major dent on my loan. $500 in interest alone will be paid from now until December.

      Kate Ly I write down what I want, in a pretty notebook that I carry with me. That way, I can separate the things that I genuinely NEED from the things that I just want.
      And if I still want it after a set time (30 days for this challenge, for example), then I ask myself if it will make me happy. If it will, then I can have it.
      It's difficult to not get tempted, but you just need to manage it :)

    You explained how to spend your money on essentials and nothing else....aka how 80% of the world live ie: check to check

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brett Foster I disagree. People spend money on non-essentials all the time. What do you spend money on in a month? Also, if you want to be EXTRA creative you don't have to buy food, or gas for your car, but I don't recommend stealing, and your friends may get tired of paying for everything for you all month. AND if you end up being late to work you'll wipe out your income source which would be a bad idea too. If you have better rules for the no spending challenge, let's hear them.

      @earthangel1978 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a diy video where you boil sugar and water...haven't tried it but it sounds like it would work.

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm interesting. Let me know if you try it. Do you just use a spray bottle (like the ones you put cleaning products in)?

    • @earthangel1978
      @earthangel1978 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use any really. Empty hairspray or even travel size bottles.

    HOW do you NOT spend money for a MONTH when you have BILLS to PAY EVERY MONTH ! ! that takes EVERY PENNY you get tell me how do I DO THAT ??

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you still need to pay your bills. Have you tried to negotiate your bills though? Cable, cell phone, insurance, etc. try calling these companies up and see if you can get your bills reduced. Also if you have debt, try to consolidate and determine a pay back plan to lower your interest and monthly bill.

    • @emptypockets2802
      @emptypockets2802 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      our bills won't do that we done tried that
      we just pay the full amount every month
      & deal with it. so how do we NOT spend
      money for a month again??

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Writing in Style online (GH) well try not to buy extra stuff like toiletries, clothes, don't eat out, etc. If you have a lot of food in you're refrigerator, freezer, cabinets etc. you should try to eat that instead of buying more

    • @emptypockets2802
      @emptypockets2802 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh we don't buy what we don't eat or use

    • @MoneyHackingMama
      @MoneyHackingMama  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Writing in Style online (GH) The next step would be to take a money making challenge then. You can only save so much, but if you can make more while you're saving it can really improve your finances.
