- Mariel Hemingway, star of Woody Allen's classic, "Manhattan," still has the same youthful spirit that captivated audiences back when she was 16. But considering her family's dark history, getting happy hasn't been easy. Mo Rocca sits down with the Oscar-nominated actress.
I just want her to be happy and safe, she deserves it!
To me, she's always the beautiful girl next door....one who loves the outdoors, fresh looking, everything one would want to be like....so heartbreaking about the family dynamic!

I remember seeing her in Superman 4, she was so beautiful in that movie, still is now but she has been through so much she could not succeed in her movie career due to her mental health .....mental breakdowns, suicides in family, my goodness............what happened to her.......it's a miracle she is still alive.......I wish the best for her.

Mariel's name originates in Mariel Harbor, Cuba. Her famous dad, Ernest Hemingway named her after the Cuban port location. The famous 1980 Mariel Boatlift flotilla transported the likes of Tony Montana of SCARFACE (1983) fame into Miami, Florida. The INS (Immigration Service) coined the term ''MARIELITOS" when referring to the Tony Montana - like criminals which Castro was glad to send to the USA during this era. Mariel Hemingway sure has a very well published both first and last names. I'm heartbroken about her siblings/ancestors untimely demises. God Bless their souls.
Omg, I'm sorry but I'm just not that impressed. I've actually seen the documentary and she's just not as introspective as she wants us to believe. She calls her sister Margaux (who was dead at the time of the filming) "stupid". She basically ignores her sister, Muffet. She has a complete breakdown and cusses out her boyfriend Bob, when she causes both of their cars to breakdown. A lot of families have much more severe problems. I admire her wanting to get to the bottom of all the suicide but her actions are guised in
narcissism.
